Red Matter Capacitor

You know, some of us have lives, kids, spouses, jobs, etc...but we still believe in supporting the game. I don't have time to sit and troll thru every single offer, STO event, etc. I came out and supported you guys at the convention a couple times, forked out $300 to become a lifetime member back in 2011 I think, maybe early 2012...and I thought I would obtain that item once I forked out all that money...but no, I keep missing it...there are countless new players joining STO, word gets out and more and more players come because for f2p it's one of the better games. We all know about the bugs, every game has them, but all in all, pound for pound, this game is doing well. But some of us are just at a disadvantage about some things because of what we have going on in our personal lives. however, while some items were meant to be limited and I completely understand that, not everything, every item, was even made aware to us players early on. Had I known about some limited edition package, believe me, I would have jumped on it. Not everyone would have...but the game has evolved...players, skills, knowledge, it's all evolved. It's obvious that some items do give an unfair advantage to players...and in PvP, little things like red matter capacitor make a difference...

I don't have a perfect solution. If you, for example, make the capacitor a craftable item in R&D, that's not going to be fair to the ones who purchased those packs back then. But there are those players who exist who had no knowledge of certain things early on. And can't sit around looking for STO events to pop up on Massivley or Reddit etc...now that Arc is part of the launcher, it is easier to get news about events taking place outside of STO. So I think it's fair that you hold an event for those of us who missed out, to obtain older items that were once available, list the event on Arc, and let us decide who is going to attend and get what they want...

You guys claimed in the Vegas convention in 2013 that the rep system and changes that were coming to the fleet system (and have since been implemented) were for the sake of fairness. So let's follow suit with the older items, give us a chance to obtain them.

Checkout Amazon for the STO Collector's Edition sometimes they are relatively inexpensive.

I got mine last summer / fall when the code was given out during a podcast event. I did not listen to the podcast, I only new about the code because it was posted in the forum. I claimed on one toon (only one per account). installed it and never thought about it again.

I have been looking every single day, I'll check out Amazon again, I have even tried eBay and googling the darn thing. The last event was mid year last year, and tongh at was the podcast. Everything I stumble into has a price tag of $300 (and as my wife will attest, I have spent way too much on the dili sinks and Vaadwaur stuff already over the last 2 months, spending another $300 for something is gonna land me in divorce court) but I will keep looking. But guys like Lor (fed side) and Technomage (KDF side) and most of the "House of Beautiful Orion's" in Ker'rat just have the little extra oomph with that capacitor that make it really difficult to pop them.

I got mine through the Livestream Event last summer. I was enthused about it, since it was something which wasn't available any more when I began playing.

Once I had it, I eagerly placed it upon the best ship my Lethean Sci currently flew. Underwhelmed aptly describes how I immediately felt about it. It is nice. Glad I have it. But it did not do anything for my char which he could not already do for himself. And the cooldown is paired with other things which are far more useful.

If you are feeling you missed out, OP, you probably did not. At least from my perspective. In the future I will be wary of giveaways on Livestream and will take a pass on them. In fact due to the rampant chaos displayed during the one Livestream I attended, I'll probably pass on them as well.

I was lucky to get my Collector's Edition from eBay a few years ago and was able to redeem for the RMC and a few other perks. I'll admit it's nice to have, but I don't find myself using it an awful lot to be honest.

In any case though, I agree that preorder or exclusive items should be brought back into the game in some way. I've always viewed as those items as nice perks for preorders, etc. However this game has been out for 5 years now, people who have preordered and such have had the benefit of using them for a long time now.

I do not see the point in leaving money on the table for an opportunity where other players can buy these items again. I personally see nothing wrong with it, nor would I ever be offended because someone had what I paid for years ago that they just received if this were to happen. I honestly don't believe anyone should be upset if they finally started to implement special items that are over 5+ years old back into the game in some way.

    I'd pay 3000 -5000 Zen, or 300 - 400 Lobi to get my hands on a RMC.
It may not be worth that much, but I'd be willing to pay that price should it ever be made available in store.

    my vote is 'no'.
you already have been given access to preorder boffs, tribbles, weapons, referral ships and so on. too many things have been given away to casuals and non factioned players as it is.

That was annoying...it went from an account unlock to a character unlock because of the way folks spammed the code all over the place. Went from what would have been 2-3k copies to how many thousands upon thousands upon thousands...meh.

I got mine from the collectors edition after I preordered it back when it was actually new.... :p

    Who gives a s***?
As you said, they gave out almost everything anyway. Also that thing sucks.... I just have it equipped sometimes because most devices suck....

We need better options for devices.
The dual batteries should be craftable at the very least imo.
They could even add special devices to the rep system..there's a lot of potential yet to be tapped. If ever they decide to work on it.

    Yes, indeed.
Adding them to the rep system would give us some sink for the marks (and in return reason to play mark giving content again)... Sounds like a good idea.

    The RMC

An item no one really needs anymore, but people still clamor for one. Between the plasmonic leech console and that trait that gives +20 power for spamming tactical abilities most people use, I don't get why people still want it. I don't have it and frankly, I don't need it.

i give a ****. im tired of cryptic making past rewards available to people that didnt bother to be here when sto needed the $ and attention.
sure, its not that great of a device. people just want it to have it, and my opinion is still 'no'.

This isn't the game we signed up for back then, it hasn't been for quiet a while.

What's the point? Clutching on that particular item... As a matter of principle? To feel love from cryptic?

I too am one of the people who got messed over when Smirk gave out the RMC codes with inaccurate information as to it being an account-wide unlock. I have no problem forgiving the mistake if the programmers actually FIXED it, but it has been around a year now and they have done nothing. Today, I sent an email asking them for a new code for the RMC to use on my main character, explaining that I am a die hard lifetime member who has literally spent thousands of dollars on the game (master keys, ships, and everything else). The response I got back told me that they would not give me a new code but that they appreciate my support and want me to wait until the next time they give out a new code. This sends me the message that they don't really care about providing good customer service and ensuring that we have a good gaming experience. They just want us to keep spending our money. I no longer intend to spend any money on STO and also intend to rally my friends and fleet to do the same. This is entirely unacceptable and to any forum managers reading this, know that this policy is a grave business mistake and you have lost my business and the praise I give the game to potential new players. When someone asks my opinion of STO, they will know it is a fun game but they should never actually invest money in it because their investment isn't valued or respected.
