Cryptic, please discuss the gameclient.exe crashes that we all seem to be suffering.

This appears to be happening across different operating systems, graphics cards, launchers, ships, characters, DX options, and activities within the game. But for most, the common denominator appears to be that it started 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Its making the game largely unplayable as missions cannot be completed, resulting in no reward (dil, XP etc.) to enable progression.

As a lifetime subscriber and someone who cares deeply for the game... please... help us.

OK...actually got an error code off of this for once, though usually I do NOT get an error code and just have a straight-up CTD I can do nothing about. I usually have multiple crashes a night, and have since the 2/6 patch. This is a serious quality problem, guys--it needs addressing. :(

There are two times it is likely: map transition, and heavy combat.

I have a Windows 8.1 HP Envy laptop, purchased in September 2014, with an i7 processor and good RAM and NVidia GPU.

I am using Direct Dd 9 to avoid hangups I was having with the "newer" version.

Tonight's crash error code from the Cryptic error handler is: 36695960.

I've seen a reply from Cryptic that the GameClient error that is causing crashing is an ISP problem. I've been in game with my teammates at the same time all over the world and we will all get loss connections at the same time. Additionally I live 100 miles from Cryptic in Los Gatos California, so my question is am I using the same ISP that others are using all over the USA? Obviously not, sounds to me like the problems are a little closer to home Cryptic! Players can see non-sense, so stop playing the blame game and fix the real problem please.

As many users above, my client crashes very often (at least few times a day) and it takes place while I'm changing zones, not every time, but once in a while. Everything worked fine until 5th year anniversay patch arrived. Since then game is not so smooth anymore.

I can't even get into the game! GameClient.exe stops working at the Cryptic loading screen. I've tried a fresh install and it's made no difference at all. Any suggestions?

Anyone here having the Direct3d Error crash ?

I am wondering if their new maps system they are trying out is going to cause more problems than it is worth having in game.

Could also their gameclint error be connected to this problem as well??

Here is the most recent reply I got from Cryptic....(IM-perfect world)...."Hello,

Thank you for the update and for your feedback.

Upon checking our servers are up and working properly. This is due to the nature of the Internet itself, the location of the servers you are accessing and the path your connection takes from your end until it reaches the server you want to access. This means your connection to our servers prior to this issue was going through a different path, hence, you were not having problems then.

However, when you started to experience problems, one major possibility was that your connection is now going through a different path than before. This can happen to any games, websites, and any online services. This is the nature of the Internet, and one factor why this occurs is because the different ISPs -- who have control over the countless of routers located across the world -- continually update their systems and protocols to keep the load in their respective routers and bandwidth, balanced. As such, this issue is an ISP-to-ISP issue, since this concerns their peering and interconnectivity with each other.

We have no say in how the ISPs want to setup their network, we ourselves are only a subscriber of another ISP. The best we can do is collate these issues (which we have and are doing), send it to the tech team, and inform our ISP. Beyond that, just like on your end, it's already an ISP-to-ISP conversation. As such, it will greatly help if your ISP is also made aware of the issue, and it is very possible for them to make adjustments and improve your connection.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. If you have any further questions or concern, feel free to contact us anytime!"...

What do you all think? Cop-out? Or not?

Iv been hearing c--p like this since i first started playing, when they released LOR the lag, banding & crashes was everyone's ISP fault or setup, then the no visuals on weapons shields ect the same again its your ISP fault or your setup,,,they are like kids in the playground, its not are fault its yours every time they TRIBBLE something up,,,,,lol
This is a world wide issue & all they can do is blame every ISP or peoples setups as usual. SAD.

I too have had a disconnect problem that started with the opening of delta recruitment. I get disconnected every hour to the second from the time i first logged in for the day. This changes if i haven't been on for several hours and come back to it.

I've amazed my friends in game with the clockwork-like precision of my disconnect and calling it. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue, but I do hope it gets fixed soon. it's a real inconvenience to plan your missions around your crash time. Other than this, I've really had no issues worth mentioning.

I, too, am experiencing the disconnect problem. It occurs every day, once, sometimes twice, in a several hour period. All this since the Delta Recruit event (which I love) came out...

I have had a crash after purchasing a brand new computer with 5G of video. After crash a cryptic box pulled up on my desk top asking for details of the crash event. I provided those and sent the message back to cryptic. This happened just a few days ago. Hopefully that message will get through to the team.

I Too get a lot of crashes from this game....sometimes when I start the game even...though I think that's the steam overlay doing that.

Anywise I get so many random crashes even the cryptic error reporter crashes not sure why.....If I hit submit before it vanishes though I can send the data out sometimes.

The crash is so abrupt that I can log back in to the character I was playing and be back right where I left off....minus the time I was dumped.

I no longer let the game check itself...as there Is no point to do that....as it never finds anything.

And out of 1000s of games....you can look me up on steam......this is the only game that crashes this much.

All my other games have been fixed.....even GTA V no longer crashes....marvel heroes online even got fixed.....this game....

As I said its so random.....yet happens a lot....sometimes when I zone sometimes when I do nothing....sometimes in combat.......its just a weird crash..

in fact instead of the game exiting it simply crashed this last time.....go figure....

Power without Perception is Spiritually useless and therefore of no true value.

    =^_^=

I know this may not persist to you all, but it might have the same root cause. Try doing this. This have fixed quite a few D3D errors which can possibly cause the problems you are having but not showing.

Ok, this was a fantastic tip. It solved my STO problems and actually dramatically improved my STO in-game response, allowing me to set my graphics settings higher. Thank you for this!

Awesome! I'm glad I could have helped! If you experience any more problems you can contact me. I am currently working on other solutions for sto problems... However; I am not a dev. Do not expect me to know everything when it comes to this game.

I have been spreading this fix more many other things.

unfortunately the option of setting it to NONE doesn't exist in my Nvidia control panel ( both options dedicate the 850M card in my laptop)

Since the Season 10 pre-patch started and even now with it live, I get this error -

Faulting application name: GameClient.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5522f1f0
Faulting module name: atidxx32.dll, version: 8.17.10.581, time stamp: 0x551b0003
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x00459f5f
    Faulting process id: 0xe20
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d07734819769fb
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live\GameClient.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atidxx32.dll
    Report Id: 90b82a27-e328-11e4-8630-90e6baa645be

Side note - atidxx32.dll is a DirectX 11 Driver. I believe ntdll.dll is as well, but don't quote me :)

Funny thing is, is that I run Win7 64-bit, so atidxx32.dll doesn't exist in that folder, but instead is atidxx64.dll

I've been forced to use the latest AMD beta drivers (3/30/15) with DX 9ex, Screen-space ambient occlusion off, Cinematic focus (depth of field) off and Antialiasing off just to keep it stable (all other settings maxed).

Before this, everything was set to max with no probs and 50-60 fps.

Another funny thing - I also play GTA:IV LCPDFR, which is very unstable, but it's actually been more stable than STO has over the last 2 weeks.

all the error-reports in forums indicate something went awry with season 10 update :

    - AMD or Nvidia drivers weren't updated ,the game was

    - folks only started to see this bug appear when (pre) patching began

    - everyone is seeing the same DX11 related error ( if they see anything at all ..even the bug submission app quite often crashes before you're able to submit report )

the patch notes mention a fix for "maps crashing " but I don't know if this pertains tot the DX error. In quite a few cases folks can't get past the login screen and that's not even a map .

Might be prudent for devs to force the game to run in DX9 mode ( not an as an option by player but as default ) until they get out the DX11 errors .

And like you mentioned : most of these GPU's run far more modern and demanding games just fine

I just had 3 crashes in a row at Zaira system Mission: Emancipation (Daily) at the ground part.
It was,'t even in combat, just running from point A to B.
    Crashes appear to be random.
Never had crashes for a long time (some years).

Nvidia Drivers are up to date, btw.

I had the same thing, however with the patrols awol the deferis really cant be finished anyway, I got CTDs beaming down, running the Zaria ground, and beaming up, gave up don't touch Deferi's now.

Traelus was working until today, then CTD zoning in, thought it was specific to deferi's and traelus until today, howvwer I am now getting it in the Delta quadrant roughly every other patrol I do, usually upon zoning.

I have tried all the workarounds people have published so far to no avail.

don't know . I have now also tried a full uninstall /re-install of the entire game , to no avail ( as I expected, bugs like this don't just magically disappear)

this also means it's impossible to complete the Delta-recruit event . Hope a fix for the map is priority # 1 now with devs as that event is promotionl to show just how "great " STO is ...
the only thing more embarassing was the fed tutorial being bugged ( oldtimers will remember that one ) , i.e. : mission ONE

I had that too, you need to force verify the entire thing then (you can also try to throw away the gameprefs.ini in either C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live or all of the above without the Steam bit ,i.e. C:\Program Files (X86) \Star trek online\star trek onlne \live \localdata then start launcher with verify/force verify on )

Re-downloaded the game thinking i'd get back into STO but I'm slowly regretting it. I started a new toon and it's been fine all the way up to Dewa III. The moment I go to "Observe Ancient Bridge", a cutscene starts with a Tholian walking across the bridge. The moment the cutscene ends, the game crashes to desktop. It's done this 5 times now and its frustrating as hell. :(

I got a client crash on a loading screen after finishing brotherhood of the sword, with the submit crash report prompt popping up. Did not start happening until Season 10 dropped. Going to assume something broke with Season 10.
