The broader strokes of that costume goes back much further than that one game.
Heck, just looking back to the early 80s, one of the many versions of costumes Princess Ardala wore is even closer to those Iconian ones. As was one of the costumes Barbarella wore. And both of those were reflections or the most common "Space Alien" costumes of kitschy 40s/50s Sci-Fi.
Jump to the '60s Star Trek Ep. - Elaan of Troyius to find those "big shoulder" vests and a costume with dangling bit of cloth between a woman's legs in the same ep.
