This is the first time I'm not bothering with the anniversary too, but for another reason:
I am sick of grinding the same material over and over. And the newer the material, the faster it gets old!
Also, there is not enough time to get the creds for the ship; I miss the good old try it out and keep it.
Space is big. It is full of strange new worlds, new life and new civilizations.
Some of those new civilizations have their own spaceships. I don't see anything not-Trek about that. I think it's actually a good thing that the game is expanding and developing new stuff.
(The fifteen days of repeated identical activity to get the darn thing, though, I'm less cheerful about. But never mind that for the moment.)
I'm inclined to go for this thing, if only to get the T6 trait... between this, the Sarr Theln, and the Delta pack (yes, muggins here shelled out for the Delta pack), my Klingon and Romulan toons will finally be able to fill their ship traits slots. (Without buying a Hazari and/or a Benthan ship as well, that is.)
I agree it should be faction ships. it's not like they have a ton of romulan ships you know. and it's not that much extra work to re-skin the same ship to be faction specific.
I'm actually happy this isn't another faction ship.
Dyson had potential. Its sounded cool. The commander/flip seating was something that on paper sounded awesome.
But the mechanic was weird to play with. The hulls were 'odd'. And two month later how many were still playing with them? How many do you see ingame today?
and don't get me started on the waste of time protonic polarons are. A neat idea, but not worth the effort to have fun with it.
For me, it's actually the opposite. This will be the first anniversary event I'll actually work for (mostly because I wasn't around when the Oddy came out). I didn't like the look or function of the Dyson ships. but the Kobali ship looks pretty cool, and I think I'll enjoy having it at my disposal.
That said, I really was hoping for something faction-specific. I won't be replacing my T5-U assault cruiser refit any time soon. I would prefer to see more faction-specific designs over alien ships.
I wonder if it would be better received if it were at least an established race ship. It kind of has a Ferengi general look and feel to it - kind of like a cross between a Marauder and the Delta Flier.
Would it be more universally accepted if it were called a Ferengi exploration cruiser, specially designed to tame the markets of the Delta Quadrants? Maybe somehow tied to those two Ferengi who were in the Delta Quadrant?
Cryptic can put whatever they want behind an unpleasant task, it still won't tempt me to get it.
How about giving us a fun FE instead like they used to with the ship as a reward during the event?
But that's just my opinion. If the grind doesn't bother you, or spending cash to get Qmend's with Lobi go for it. It is indeed an awesome looking ship,
one play through the feature episode + 15 simple daily q missions if you think thats a grind then i am just at a loss for words.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Hey come on guys. Cryptic hands out a cool top ship for free.
The anniversary grind is really not that bad and Im sure we will get a beautiful episode to back it up. The mechanics also makes it as alt friendly as it can be.
Ones in a while thank you Cryptic.

Thanks but I will not be participating this year. For a number of reasons.
1.) OP covered it for me.
2.) Personally ship looks like it it got its inspiration from Barney & Friends.
3.) You can give me the damn Executor Super Star Destroyer or Death Star II, and it would still have 0% reason for having it, other than slicing off a few seconds from the thrilling PvE I've played back-to-back for 5 years. Its old & stale and frankly I'm astounded that you have not realized this already. BUT, Yi-aaaah... lets slap some more 100kk HP on the suckers, that will make it SO MUCH MOAR challenging.....
4.) Had you not shafted my faction and PvP, while stringing us along for such a long time, I might be marginally interested. Your priorities seem focused on nothing we ask for.. but on things that are blatantly transparent money wells.
5.) I actually don't enjoy grind. Believe it or not it repulses me as much as trying to swallow an unexpected lump in one's porridge.
6.) I'm up to about here with your carrot-and-stick methodology.
Thanks Cryptic...bout the only time Klingons and Romulans could have a guarantee of getting a new ship was the anniversary...so now you eliminated that...your goal to eliminate the Romulans and Klingons of ever getting any new ships?
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Maybe i grind that ship for that console or the ship trait. But i don't want to fly that ship. I also use only faction ships on my chars for the Trek atmosphere.
If all players only use alien ships, then STO looses his last Trek component/atmosphere.
The last weekend i logged in with my klingon. I didn't played him for months now. I joined a Fleet Alert and i was the only one with a klingon faction ship. :S
How many of you would feel differently if this was a new "Alliance" cruiser that was built jointly between the Federation, the Empire, and the Republic?
well as far as I am concerned this is an awesome ship well worth the miniscule effort it will take to get it, all you guys who consider this way too much of a grind can go without, theres plenty more in STO for you to play, oh but hold on? you cant level up cos that would be grinding so you must still be stuck on the first mission, you cant do reputation, specializations, starship mastery, crafting, weapons upgrading or doff missions, you cant even join a fleet cos that would involve grinding to advance fleet holdings, so sorry not much you can play in this game really.

Thats precisely the point. The concept of an Alliance between these three Star Trek Icons is tantamount to suggesting that the Jedi and Sith started hanging out, and the Empire and the Rebel Alliance fought together to fend off the Ewok invasion of Coruscant.... And if Geko was somehow involved in all this, the Ewoks would have lazors in their heads.
Here is a thing I do not blame Cryptic for. If you stick to the authentic faction ships, Fed saucer, hull and nacelles, KDF raptors or battle cruisers, Romulans warbirds, you run out of designs. Who likes the faction delta quadrant ships?. It is a nice go-between, the Kobali are more or less allies of the Alpha Q factions.
About fed ship design. Look at the original Constellation and go to the Intrepid from Voyager. There is still a saucer, a hull and nacelles. but the parts are more integrated. This may evolve into something complete integrated, something like ... the defiant?
That's what I'm going to do...take the trait and run.
[snip]
Due to the dev decisions to make the upgrade costs insane, major build changes are uneconomical...
[snip]
All gear changes, BOFF changes, and ship changes now come with a price tag that is infeasible [sic].
[snip]
If anyone thought these decisions would entice me to pay more they instead drove me out of the economy and only fixing that substantially and treating the customer better over time will change my mind.
My thoughts on this whole thing - ENTIRELY.
I have 10 toons, only 3 upgraded to mk 14 and to be honest those 3 toons are now DONE (and the rest will never be done). The amount of resources I have sunk into them means I will NEVER change them again. They are already behind the curve (being mk 14 VR/UR with very little Epic) so keeping up with the Jones' is no longer a problem I have. If and when new things come along I will pretty much be 'meh'. Grinding a minigame for a new ship trait - fine. Buying master keys to open boxes and get a new ship or lockbox trait - no way, whats the point?!
This in turns means my paying for anything in the game is also pretty much done. They have turned a paying customer into a playing leecher.
I think perhaps the devs in this game might benefit by going back to school, doing a little game design 101 and human pysch classes to understand how and why their 'awesome expansion' has been received by the playerbase.

So after that new episode, I'll have 800 QMendations on a few characters. This may work out nicely for me...

What's wrong with the Matha? I like it just fine.
