The afk penalty for not bring afk only happens in space stfs. It happens when the system recognizes that a player isn't doing a certain amount of damage, and it seems to be in comparison to whatever everyone else on the team is doing. Frankly, I find it hard to believe anyone with sufficient gear could be penalized this way. For the prophets' sake, I fly a Galaxy full time and have never gotten an afk penalty. If your gear is so low that thus actuly happens to you, you have no business being there in the first place.
This doesn't happen in ground missions. Even if you're brand new and have lvl 5 gear, you won't get a penalty. I don't even think you can in ground missions.
what ever happened to good old fashion voting if someone is afk after they enter the map just like everyone else does after 2 mins is up then the rest of the players can boot him or her out of the mission by majority vote if afker is not healing anyone or attacking any npcs for at least 20 seconds they can get booted out of the mission as well
why 20 seconds is it will make it hard for the lazy person to walk away from his or her computer to do something else unless person says he or she has to go afk then it be up to the rest of the group to let that person know how long they have until they get booted
i want to stress this *if a group is unwilling or refuses to do what must be done then persons have no divine birth right to come onto the forms to complain about how they are not taking ownership of doing this*
each player will have one vote and i hope the game has the ability to pick up a masked ip address so if lazy person knows how to redirect the ip coming from where that person lives to somewhere else when the game is trying to pick up the ip address in the first place so lazy person can't off set the vote
i place my faith and trust in a voting system then a all the time broken self automated system that gets to be judge jury and executioner and it knows whats best
i also feel the voting system is a more stable solution is it perfect a full 100% no i am sure there will be cracks or work arounds to by pass its safe guards being discovered but that's why players have and always ever will be on the front line and they will also be the first ones to know when they see a exploit
with there very own eyes and i only hope that persons will be able to keep fraps or any other software out there that does what fraps do's on the ready to record so plays can send this in to the devs and then devs can hopefully fix it
to be honest i don't know how well this idea will work but based on what i been reading so far in this thread i just thought i make mention of what i was thinking

I got nailed with the 2 hr penality last week. Than again I'm out of country on really bad internet and had a idle spike that sent me to rebooting the game. When I came back I wasn't returned to the mission (forgot which one) and had the warning. I brushed it off and went to bed, was way to late any way.
