Considering the s*** xp reward we have from pretty much anything but Argala, they really expect us to grind another spec tree ?.
Sure, I for one am close to as far as I want to get in Intel for one character and I've finished up entirely with Commando for another. I'm at the point now where another tree would be welcome.
If you're not there yet, well then don't bother commenting.

And at this rate is going to be 1 spec tree each 2 or 3 months.. and all the new ones, much better than the old ones.. so, why the hell even bother?
Cause you can use them until something comes along that you might prefer? It's uh...well...pretty simple. Do you run around naked because there might be better clothes coming out in the Spring? The lengths that some folks go to complain about silly things, when there's so much that's actually just downright broken, is amazing...

So, you finish your spec tree with one character, not even enjoy it, and you want a new one?
LOL cryptic, really? a new spec tree? LOL.. ppl complain about the stupid XP grind and you just add more?
And we all know, that if we fallow cryptic history, the new spec tree is going to be MUCH more better than the old.
LOL
This is old news. We didn't know when the next ones were gonna hit, but we knew Intel, Commando and Pilot were merely the first of many. The new info is that the next one(s) will hit on the anni.
Like I said, you guys don't need to take on this grind.

LOL white knight, it does not take me 3 months to grind for clothes and when I manage to buy it, is already broken!

True, but when new content is released in any MMO, it's usually for the largest part of the community, not for a small bunch of people that grind argala all day or something.
Otherwise, why bother releasing new content ?
As of today, you need 150k xp for a single spec point. A stf will award you 2K xp. And queues are dead anyway.
A bz pretty much nothing.
DOFF, most of them award around 100-200xp (woot), except for a very select few that award 1k+.
The system is simply put, not made to support spec tree as an endgame side effect from playing the game. Unless you grind patrol all day.
And at this rate is going to be 1 spec tree each 2 or 3 months.. and all the new ones, much better than the old ones.. so, why the hell even bother?
Because each tree has a certain specialization which can directly relate to an intended playstyle. For my commando-maxed KDF for example I will never substitute out my secondary specialization because those abilities and buffs are entirely appropriate to what I want to focus on for that character. Cryptic may come out with some even more powerful abilities (objectively), but because they will most definitely NOT represent our current trees but with even stronger buffs (of the exact same sort) the question of relevance will always be asked for every character whenever a tree gets added.
That's why you bother, you select what works best for now and if something more appriopriate comes along you invest in that. Its the same as with every other aspect of this game (ships, equipment, traits, ect.), and now its true for skills. Welcome to MMO's (ie. this is just more of the same, but different).

Since you can only use 1 primary and 1 secondary, I'm holding off on spending at lvl 65 except on one character who will be done with intel and pilot by anniversary.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

You can only use one primary specialization and one secondary specialization at any given time. Effectively, one primary and one secondary is all you really "need". Therefore, it just comes down to a choice. Commando or Pilot? Intel or this new spec? Who content is intended for is largely irrelevant.
I seem to remember wishing everyone luck with this system when I got off the hamster wheel.
This one doesn't sound so bad... with the ani event. Just wait for the one that comes in the Spring that will come at the same time as a couple new or (reworded) Stfs where the enemies will be super annoying with disables or something unless you unlock that new tree to deal with it. lol
At least there making it easier for me to stay on hiatus.

Unless I didn't get the upgrade, no one can foresee the future, so how am I supposed to know what spec tree I might want to invest my points in ? Should I just stockpile them until the servers get shut down so I don't have to waste points on stuff that I will not want at some point ?
And please ask the KDF players or the PvP crowd if it's really irrelevant for whom content is created !
It always amazes me, that when somebody posts something stupid and they get called on it, many of them have the automatic response to call the person a white knight. Doesn't matter if the person they're calling a white knight routinely talks about the 9001 things that Cryptic is routinely TRIBBLE up. Their inability to process they posted something stupid in the first place should come as no surprise since they posted something stupid in the first place.
You're obviously playing the game on a computer, right? According to your logic, you shouldn't be...since there will also obviously also either be better computers or components.
That doesn't make me a white knight...it makes you a....anyway.

That's what I'm doing. *shrug*
Also, I AM a KDF player. And I don't need to ask the PvP crowd if it's irrelevant, because it's not irrelevant to them.

i have both hide weakness and automated reinforcment at the same time.
when i get intel levelled up, i will have many more all active at the same time.
there is no chosing between any of those.
for pilot i have manouvering thrusters attackpattern spec and desperate flight AND wreckless abandon.
i have all of those at once. no choices being made, just big blocks of power that a new player wont have.
thats bull**** that shouldnt happen in an online game
It's a collective choice.
You choose to slot a Zero Point or an Assimilated Module...you're making a choice, and that choice involves several bonuses. Deflectors? Shields? It's all over the place...and it's common in gaming. Even in a FPS when you choose between different weapons, you're choosing a collection of stats.
When there are other Specializations, whether a competing Primary or competing Ground/Space Secondary Specializations...once again, you'll have the choice of those collections. So having those additional choices is a good thing...it's a normal thing. What we've got right now is the lack of choice...they'll be giving it to us.
Just need some clarification... Are you pro, or con on this? (not like I don't know the answer... just need to be sure.)
On the grinding issue? Con definitely on grinding. I have 45 characters, and I can't see me completing even one spec tree on one character feasible in the near future. I don't consider the spec trees needed in any way, but I'd definitely like to eventually max them.
What I'm against is the mindset that it's NEEDED. If you don't PvP, it's not. And even with PvP, you'd have to be pretty competitively-minded to consider it worth grinding endlessly for the spec points. I don't like to see my fellow players not having fun any more. You supposed to have fun playing games, and if the effort put into the game is greater than the expected fun you get from it... why even bother? That's why I'm opposed to that mindset.
Of course, I'm just a white knight developer apologist to some. *shrug*

I'm not even started with one of them, and not completed a single one of them ! Oh, I so wish I grinded Tau Dewa just like anybody else.
Cryptic, april is not yet there. But thanks for the joke.

You are right... And I think that's what the OP means..
For me it won't make a difference... I've barely scored enough XP to get 1/3'd through the trees, and I don't think I care to either.
