    Hello Everyone,

I wanted to come here and encourage you all by sharing my story of what I have achieved in real life since quitting the game.

    1) Going back to the Gym, losing 20lbs, on target for 180 in 6 months!
    2) I bought a new ford mustang (omg sooo nice)
    3) Setting up to buy my first house :D
    4) Taking Skydiving lessons
    5) Met a lovely young woman

This post is to encourage you all to do something better with yourself in 2015! Go out, throw a ball with your friends, go to see a movie, or go do something in the real world. Don't get sucked up into the virtual world! Live life my friends!

    God Speed and best wishes!

Sounds like you're full of it and even if you're not everybody should care why?

Wait you had to quit the game to do all that??

Wow, that's pretty sad, and I kinda feel sorry at OP so I won't try to TRIBBLE on his happiness

But, if you're that pathetic that you stay on a video game all day, and ignore you friends, family and health, you kinda deserve it.

Agreed. The expansion to "Real Life" has even worse Devs than Cryptic's.

AND... you need things from stores to even play the game... Horrible...

    And Stipends suck.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Well, whilst my online time is liimited, I manage to play STO where possible AND have managed:

    To get married
To have a baby daughter (four months old to date)
Hold down a full-time job, and acheive a minor pay-rise
    Play in a Brass Band

Sorry, but like many things, online/video games are only an obstacle to other pursuits if you MAKE them one.

Ooh a brass band! What instrument, might I ask? (I used to play trombone for my local town community band.)

    Hello Everyone,

I wanted to come here and encourage you all by what I have achieved with STO since quitting real life.

    1. Gained 20 lbs, going to hit 200 soon!

    2. Won a new Dreadnought with $500 of R&D packs, (Almost enough money left to buy that used car I've been needing!).

    3. Upgraded my equipment to gold with 10,000,000 dilithium (which I got for free by grinding across 50 toons). :D

    4. Learned how to pull all-night Argala sessions.

    5. Bought a Seven of Nine outfit for my female toon.

So I'd like to encourage everyone to keep grinding, go throw a Subspace Party Amplifier at an Exchange terminal, or simply watch the money in your bank account get lower.

    Stay virtual, my friends! LLAP!

    If true, I'd wager it's the 4-cylinder.

    i.e. Not a real Mustang.

    1. congratulations.
    2. there is nothing worse than a reformed person. Just because you think something is great doesn't mean it is for everyone else.

    3. I'll keep working full time and playing spare time.
Due to you saying you're now paying off 2 things, that means you are probably also now working at a fulltime job, so have less time to play anyway.

I wonder if he really did do all these things by quitting STO but still plays WoW.

More power too him if he did all these things, although as others have mentioned, you should be able to do them without quitting a video game.

Awesome man. I think a lot of people who have posted here have underestimated what a time sink mmo's and other unproductive activities are for so many people. I've read of people who, after giving up these things, rediscovered the world, made new friends, found things that they enjoy more  than gaming or whatever. And they are generally happier for it.

All the naysayers posting here, why are you posting? The "It's not an issue for me, so it must not be an issue for you" is such a shallow way of thinking. Someone found that giving up their game time made room for something better in their life. You all would obviously be surprised at the number of people who take inspiration from this sort of thing.

We're mocking him for his plainly ludicrous assertion that somehow, playing a game will prevent you from experiencing anything pleasant in life. If that does apply to you, there are therapies that can be applied; but for the vast majority of the player-base, particularly of so casual a game as this, it's silly on the face of it to claim that we can't buy cars, take up relationships, or father (or bear!) children because of the interference of STO.

I once watched a video of a guy (Kaufman or something) who made this claim that you can learn to do pretty much anything in only 20 hours. At the end of the video he showed off his newly found ukulele skills as proof. The comments to this video were mostly criticism and skepticism, saying things like, "Oh, so I can become a nuclear engineer in only 20 hours?" or "You didn't truly learn to play that instrument. It takes more time than that to master it." They completely missed the point that given the right focus an individual can learn to do so many things in a relatively short amount of time. It's not mastering something that matters in this case, it's learning it. But these people completely missed the point.

I'm seeing the same attitude here. Different subject. Same lack of perspective from the people commenting.

That's all I have to say about this.

Alright, one to one, I can live with that.

It's just occurred to me that while we're arguing over shearstress's post, he's out enjoying himself regardless of who "wins". We've both said our piece so I'm going to walk away now.

Pls keep on visiting us in ts sometimes! Seems that your way of handling RL and MMO-life pays out for you :)

    Seriously?

I can make an argument that the time I was away from STO was worse.

It's all subjective. Just because one person loses themselves in a game doesn't mean everyone does.

Life is a game of balance. Too much of anything can be detrimental. Work or games.

I enjoy STO. So I will play in a balanced way. As many others have the will to do.

There is always a middle path, and on that path is a profound happiness.
