yes I admit its slightly annoying to get hit by a random snowball and get knocked down, wich is my only annoyance with the snowballs, getting knocked down.
however should others be punished by not being able to have snowball fights, with other people that enjoy it? hell no.

In one side we have the lore TRIBBLE, the drozanas weirdos and the party pooper. On the other side we have the cyber bullies whose enjoyment comes from someone else being unhappy.
It's simply too difficult to pick a side, but the fight is extremely enjoyable.
Which is where the requests to be able to ignore the effects of the snowball come into play - things like what bluegeek said or even some GPL nullifier type device...allowing the player that wants to ignore them to ignore them.
While those requests seeking to remove the ability of those that want to enjoy them, have no problem with them, etc, etc, etc - is trespassing into the area along the same lines of the complaint that was being made in the first place and takes on a certain air of hypocrisy.
It's hard to believe so many people are getting bent out of shape at the thought of not being to control other people characters in game. Whoah. I mean, why are are they so desperate to manipulate other people's bodies? There's gotta be some issues going on here. They just have to be able to throw snowball.... at YOU. Probably just real life frustrations manifesting themselves in the game.

IMHO, I think it's a form of overcompensation for a lack of something...the fixation on disco balls previously and now snow balls...seeking this form of entertainment in such an anonymous fashion while safely seated behind a computer screen definitely shows a lack of something...wonder what it could be...
In the end, they should neither be the objects of scorn nor hatred, but rather should they not receive some level of sympathy? Obviously something awful happened to them as children that prevented them from developing the normal coping skills which allow most of us to deal with day to day life, almost taking it for granted; while they themselves feel beset upon and plagued by the same to result in what would be considered aberrant social behavior.
Further mind you, should we not also be grateful on some level that they are acting out their fantasies in a game rather than out there in the real world? One can only hope that this provides their family, their friends, their loved ones ample opportunity to find them the help they so desperately need before tolerance sets in and they need to escalate matters to find the same relief or escape they currently find in the game.

If the discoball was as popular as you say it was then the defenders would be a greater number than the people who wanted an option to not be affected by it. If that was the case the nulifier would not have made it into the game.
Yes some people go overboard, it doesn't help. However both sides are guilty of that including yourself in this post. Really people who do not think the same as you as to what is fun are anti-social, control freaks, nebtally unbalanced and people no one would want to be friends with.
Again what you find fun others may not and what they find fun you may not. I have the nulifier because I like to choose what fun I want and when. If I am in the mood and someone pops a ball I put the nulifier in the bank and join the crowd. if I am on a tac character I throw a smoke bomb to give the "smokey" dnace floor effect and call down a security escort to add more dancers, if not on a tac I fire off my shard to add two more dancers. When I am not in the mood then I have the option to choose not to be affected by it.
The problem wtih polarised sides is that Cryptic have to choose one side or the other on the numbers of different people who are on the sides and going with the majority. Which means one side loses completely and causes more problems. I think compromise is what is needed on both sides.
I know it has jokingly mentioned but maybe a "nulifier" be an option. This means those that don't want to be affected by snowballs have something that gives them that option and choice. This way snowballs can stay and be used outside WW and the people that enjoy them can continue to do so.
Another option could be what Bluegeek mentioned if a person is interacting with an NPC or object like the bank, mail, and exchange they can't be targetted with the snowball. Again this allows the snowballs to continue to be used outside of WW without interupting things, which is what may annoy people more. After all look at Mudd who until recently interrupted everyone even if they were not dealing with him or were nowhere near him. This is what people found annoying about him.

I still take part in the Snorg invasion if I am there when it starts even though it is broken because I find it fun, I get more of the rewards from DOFFing so the fact it doesn't give much is irrelevant to me. I like the F&F race and will take part in it if I am there when it is starting and even ifI don't "win", or even come in last I have fun. I even enjoy the snowman attack even with the poor rewards. The only thing I am not fussed about, but have to do for pics, is FGI. Even then I use it to practice running on an ice track to then take that to F&F race to see if I can improve my position in the run.
