Tide of Ice Requirement

markfalconemarkfalcone Member Posts: 245 Arc User
Question about the requirement to open the extras: 5 and 10 times in ToI, is that per character or per account? Because if it's per character... I've got a ton of work to do... All of the items I'm looking forward to are BoP and per character, not per account :-S

I do not know the answer but every other Event they have ever done has been per-character, and I do not see any reason why they would change that now.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    Yet another horrible decision.

I just want to buy a hat. A friggin' HAT. But I need to do that mission five times first.

    Seriously?

^I just confirmed it is per character, which is stupid considering the event is only held once per hour. Also, why eliminate the ship grind, which is one of the easiest things to do and replace it with an item grind with time consuming battles? These devs need to be fired, this **** is getting old.

Yeah, makes zero sense. I'm doing it for both myself and my wife, and there's no way I have enough waking and free hours to both do all of my characters and hers for just the warp cores.

I would like to take this opportunity to complain about the ToI unlock requirements. I really don't fancy having to play it 60 times to unlock the cores on 6 characters.

    Yet another alt-hostile decision.

I was loving the alt friendly event that seems to have been given s till i realized we had to run this 10x per character, especially as it only supposed to pop at the top the hour at the mo, if your going to restrict it then at least run it a few more times in the hour to make it more achievable

The grind for the Cores... Bah yikes!! But the clothing items, they are tradeable, so some positive to go with that negative.

Are you actually going to use the warp core? :P

I lol'd pretty hard and loud reading your reply because of how it was worded, but mostly because it's so true.

And imagine this - I want the core on my Ferasan that uses Breen ships. But I want a green bat'leth and the tac.module on my Klingon main. And probably the science kit module for my Human sci. And another tactical one on my Human tac. And yes, a couple of FRIGGIN' hats here and there.

So how many times do I need to do a hourly event to earn the right to buy things and do they think that I'm really going to do that instead of playing sth. else?
ROFLMAO, who's at the helm of this ship, Bozo the clown? :D :P

I asume that it is because we collected over the years so many ornaments that it would be to easy for us to get everything. The problem with that is that this is exactly the reason why we dislike DR so much, we (not all) have more than one alt and a real live.

easy way to fix that: new ornaments for the new items

I'll have it done on 5 characters within a week. I can see it being a problem for 10+ characters especially 20+ But do they all really need the warp core? Maybe only 5 or 10 of them?

I am nuts for this event though. It's the only thing I grind like others grind patrols etc..

Well.....so far those have been doing a stellar job in keeping me out of the game, so a tad counterproductive I'd say. Meh, probably a reporting bug. lol :D

They kind of upgraded the set, they just didn't fix it's shortcomings.

    1) The horrible 3-piece bonus which seriously needs to be changed to Energy Siphon 2 or 3.
    2) It's horrible stats, specially the flow caps on the deflector when the Breen love draining. power.

Grinding to buy from the vendor (when you have to grind to get the collectibles) is lame. I was interested in the core and also wanted to get the new bat'leth for my other Klingon toon, but I sure am not going to waste time doing 10 Borg Lane fights on every toon that I want to buy an item that is "bind on pickup". Commonsense, just make it a one character and unlock for account, at least make it less painful than what you already have done to us.

I'm fine with the restriction. We have plenty of time to do this event, and surely you aren't planning to get a core on every character!

My only quibble is restricting the new snow guns. Seems odd. Since I don't like "wasting" ornaments, I have to suffer through five Tides with just snowballs if I want the Freezing Mist. Ugh!

But seriously, I'll get over it in a few hours.

They literally have ground the fun out of it with grinds.

My thoughts exactly and I said this on anther thread.
Whose wise idea was this? The Dev that thought of this should be fired. (Although by Cryptic's logic, he's doing exactly the right thing.)

I am not going to grind for the right to buy nanopulse bat'leths on every toon I have, TRIBBLE that. I just won't buy them. End of.
Cryptic fails in making me grind endlessly.
If I want to grind for something, it's my choice to do it or not. I shouldn't be forced into it.
I already have the components needed, just let me buy the damn items!

This Winter event is supposed to be fun. Fun is not grinding!

It's uh, nothing new, though. Sure, doesn't change that some folks might find it lame; but it's all over the place in the game...Reputation, Fleets, etc.

To quote someone else, they've turned this game into "Grind Trek Online".

I wonder if the devs get some sort of bonus for new and interesting ways to make us grind. (that's the evillest thing I can imagine)
(But really, they should have known this would not go over well.)

    I seriously love that bacon...

The decision is purely to pad the games metrics for the analysts. Offer a 'way-cool-must-have', then gate it behind ten hours of daily game play. Per toon.

    Well played Gecko. Well played.

However, if you balance that out with now it takes me 3 races to get three ships per alt, I can't be too judgemental. PLus nothing screams the holidays more than snowborg.

I don't know why everyone is up in arms about the Tie of the Ice Requirements. But sure fun to me. Of course I don't have anything like a snow gun and it's all snow balls to collect and manage since they only last one hour. . I like how the Borg Snowmen are hard to take down even with so many snow balls thrown at them. The other snowmen who hit you without warning those aren't too bad unless they're in a huge group then watch out.

The PVE Winter Invasion at the Gingerbread Town that's something else of course on the first run I didn't know there was a yeti in a cave. Well now I know! Really not enough time to grab all the candy, presents and down gingerbread town folks.

But in all I am having blast! But this started earlier that was posted. I've been at all until now. I am taking break. My KDF and ROM well there is time for them. That ice race never started until a couple of hours ago again no time to do it at this rate.

Pie eating contest seems max eaten is 10. I see 8, 9 and 10 in a count. Yes this is going to be a very long grind no doubt about it! :)

Locking something the player desires behind grinding lots of content they have no desire to participate in speaks volumes about both the quality of the content and how the developers view the playerbase.

Anyone else think the warp core is not so great? Breen Set is a Torp/Sci set but the capacitor on the warp core is for weapon power which a lot of people wouldn't use.

If I had that many hours to spend on any game, all of my CO characters would be maxed, my two new STO characters would be maxed, and, most importantly, I wouldn't have posted the complaint to start with.
