I'm still struggling to work-out why the nano-weapons are behind a gate, and what exactly is different about them this time...?

The Executive Producer of STO is what's different about them this time.

I've played this event 5 times and still can not buy the "Need to play Tides 5 times" items.

Of course 3 of those times there was no mission data in the window even thou it kept awarding me the winter items.

For me it is a bit annoying that today was the third time that i hot no reward after finishing all 10 Waves of Tide of ice. Thee Queen "died/melted" and that´s it. No rewards, no notification that i completed ToI, nothing

Make sure all snowborg are dead before you run off.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

I just got this as well. I thought I got all 10 waves and certainly got the queen but I was frozen several times so maybe didn't do enough in one of the waves. Yet I succeeded once with just snowball throw so it seems a little hard to figure.

It says Tides of Ice complete and there is a list of rewards under that.

    Thank you.

Where is the best place to stand while waiting for it to start, under the sign or near the Fortress?

All snowborg were dead, Queen was dead, no one else in those ToI events got the message either. Searched every corner for remaining snowborg. Waited for about 10 Minutes. If thats not long enough, i don´t know what is.

I just got the "A line in the snow" accolade for finishing the "tide of ice" 10 times. Not all my runs were perfect. Maybe 2 or 3. Could not track the progress however...

A giant white ball of stupid - that's this decision. People are already playing the Winter Content to acquire the objects needed to purchase these special items, but now we're expected to play certain content a certain number of times? To hell with that. I'll do it on my Republic Guy cause he's going to be the one making the most of the Breen ships, but the warp core will have to be missed on my other toons.

    Seriously stupid idea.

If it helps you guys , here is some info from the December 5 Tribble patch notes :

Items unlocked through completing “Tide of Ice” will now unlock for the entire account.
This will require only 1 character on an account to unlock all new Winter Event items through completing “Tide of Ice”.

If you open the accolade list, you can track your progress by finding the unfinished accolade, right now I'm 7/10.

Speaking of coal.... that gift from Q is annoying.

I have four of them now.

To claim your coal, unlock the rep project then go to the events tab under Reputations...

I never understood the hatred for a lump of coal. It is a very useful item to keep warm for a night.

I have been intentionally avoiding the hidden gift box in Winter Invasion to prevent getting more cookie people and coal, but I still end up with them at the end...the gift that keeps on giving...like fruit cake....

    Ta

Both. It runs every X:00 and it might run at the random event mark at X:45 I think.

from what i've seen the event at :45 alternates between the race and Tides

The "random" Tides occurs on the 45 every three hours. Tested out that theory last night and it seems pretty solid. Confirmed it at 6:45 PM and 9:45 PM Central.

Yeah, that's because you shouldn't avoid the "present" box. It always contains a recipe for the Neelix missions, which are easy and not time-consuming at all. The frekking coal and the walking frekking, dumb munchies are in the surprise package cookie box coming with the mission rewards. I just discard them now.
