1. Demorecord Tides of Ice.
2. Once inside the demo file playback, hit "~" to open the chat bar.
3. /setregionfov ground 15
4. Hit "~" again to close the chat bar.
5. Begin playback with the camera unlocked (F2) so I can move around the zone as I want.
6. Pause playback when I find what appears to be an interesting scene.
7. Move the camera until I get a good angle.
8. Hit "~" to open the chat bar.
9. /renderscale 3
10. Hit "~" again to close the chat bar.
11. Hit PrtScn.
12. Hit "~" to open the chat bar.
13. /renderscale 1
14. Hit "~" again to close the chat bar.
15. Repeat steps 5 through 14 until I have a variety of screenshots.
16. Create new image in Photoshop (most other graphics programs could work too) at the 1920x1200 required size.
17. Open screenshot in Photoshop.
18. Copy the entire screenshot, and paste into the new image.
19. Resize and adjust the positioning of the screenshot so only the best parts of the screenshot remain.
20. Save as .jpg.
21. Congratulations. You now have a very nice screenshot without any really extensive editing!
Enjoy!
Great tips/technique, I had no idea that the renderscale and setregionfov commands could be changed within demorecord. Now if only I could play with min graphics for speed and up them in demorecord.
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. If you can figure out the chat commands for them, you should be able to make adjustments. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to help you there... yet.
But... don't just randomly hit buttons in the demorecord. That has the potential to do some very strange things to graphics settings that then affect the actual game so you have to reset everything.

While you're in Demorecord, press the F6 key. A window will come up and at the top of it there is a line called "Budget Target FPS: #....". Click on the small gray box to activate Emulate Settings. Now click on the boxes above that line to scale the GFX Settings from very low to very high. Maybe this helps!
Well we are a little over half way through the month, and we already have some great shots here in the Screenshot Contest!
Things are looking very wintery, and I love what I am seeing so far.
You still have some time left before the end of the month to submit your photos, and don't forget that you can team up with friends and fleetmates to make some great group shots to bump yourself further up in the running! Get creative, have fun with the winter event and it's resources, and don't be afraid to make something really cool like a Holiday card from your Captain!
We will see more entries in the coming weeks, and have some fun while you are on your holiday breaks!
Here's one of my handmade screenshots. It was taken in a Delta Episode mission where you had to gain all Alliance members. It was a wonderful view Enjoy:
I had fun with this. It's composited from several light levels with demorecord.

(This is not actually the full original. I cranked the renderscale up to 3 which is a file that's 5727*3033. If this entry gets 1st I'll just hand over the .psd file; forget the downscaling and lousy .jpg compression. :P )
If anyone would like a wallpaper of this that is larger than 1920*1200 just let me know what resolution you'd like.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
Only a couple days left, and I see a severe lack of Gingerbread inspired pics. Where is all the Wintery sweet goodness of the Gingerbread Colony Invasion??
I guess I am gonna have to get in game and run PvE missions with folks to make some good holiday greeting cards with the players

Oh and just for fun here are a few extras captured using nearly the same technique but with no compositing/demorecord:

PS: To get it right, put the URL in as you normally would, just put he [url] tags. Should then be something like: [/url]
Breaking it down:
[ URL = "http://i.imgur.com/1I0emQ5.jpg" ] [ IMG ] http://i.imgur.com/1I0emQ5.jpg [ /IMG ][ /URL ]
Just remove the spaces.
