unplayable between lag and disconnects

nevawinnanevawinna Member Posts: 281 Arc User
I find myself unable to play the game between inredibly bad lag and excessive disconnects. This has gone on for days now but have yet to even see it acknowledged as a problem. Here's what just happened:
Logged into the game to do some basic daily things. Can't really do any missions ATM. Logged in the first character ok but had several seconds delay interacting with anything, switched to the next one, ended up warping all over the place as any input took several seconds to register and then the actions happened in shorts bursts. Somehow finished, tried to switch to next character, got instant timeout at character select screen. What kind of timeout is INSTANT? Logged back into the launcher, waited about 5 minutes for it to even start checking for updates, finally got to character select screen, minus characters. Showed list but right side was blank, no characters or ships rendered. Clicked a flew names, a few minutes later they appeared on the right side, clicked and ended up at the login screen, disconnected from server.

I've had neither disconnects or lag recently. I think the problem might be on your end.
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

Used to be fine for me until recently (except for frequent disconnects at character select, those ALWAYS happened, just not quite as often), now both STO and NWO keep giving me these connectivity problems. My connection seems fine elsewhere.

    hi,

no, you're not the only one, nor only in your game.

same thing here since +- one week : wild disconnections , impossible to play more than one hour without one.
a lot of severe crashes too : "game client has crashed", and return on the desktop...

never seen STO so unbearable since years.... :(

as i don't see any answer about it for now from PW, i'll make a pause 2-3 weeks... with the hope that PW will work on that efficiently, cause game is no more playable for me actually...
quitting STFs because of disconnections is not only unfair for my team ( not funny for them to finish at 4...), but getting no reward , and being under usual cooldown, what a pleasure !

neither warthunder nor wildstar have any kind of problem like these ones, neither disconnections, nor crashes, no more lags...

sorry for all the guys that i've left in stf's middle because of these "wild" disconnections...

AGAIN, I am responding across the board so Cryptic gets involved. This is all tied to the 1GB update of last week. There is obviously some bad code somewhere. GAME IS VIRTUALLY UNPLAYABLE.

For those of you NOT HAVING PROBLEMS, Please post your hardware/software configurations. Thanks.

BTW I am on a commiteed Eithernet "HARDWARE" connection, running a quad core machine. there is absolutly no reason I should see performance problems.

I will have to agree here, I am getting the same disconnection issues as many other players (as this is not the only disconnected, game unplayable topic). All of this started to happen and severely right after the last Maintenance /Patchup. . . Midwest player with Charter ISP. unless someone can prove otherwise I don't believe this has something to do with the performance of my ISP.

I re-install STO to another area of my hard drive and it seems to have solved the problem.

Not sure if this will solve it for everyone but hopefully might help someone. :)

I too have been Experiencing lag (rubber banding) and spontaneous Disconnects.
as forum post says Game has become unplayable due to the frequency at which these occur.

I'm Running a Windows XP Computer, internet connection is speed 40Mbps. I've been playing without difficulty since Beta.

these problems have only recently begun since roughly mid november. your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I just took some time to "force verify" from the launcher.
no messages appeared telling me anything was wrong, nor did it download anything.
i get back into the game and not 3 minutes in, did it disconnect me.
All i accomplished within that time was moving my ship from mutara nebula to B'tran, and a few min sitting at B'tran, looking over Doff missions.

Without any network diagnostic information, its anyone's guess as to what is causing your connection problems...

So just for kicks i decided i would use the stopwatch feature on my wristwatch to time how long i can play in game without being disconnected.

Longest i went was 5 min 22 seconds and that was with the game pausing for server not responding messages 3 times.

i decided i might be able to do the Daily Run for Q glossy photos, and found that the 1 time that the game didn't disconnect on me during the run, a
server not responding message appeared and i rubber banded back about 25 feet in the course.

So pretty much all i can do in the game now is Doff missions and Play Dress up. most anything else and the game decides to disconnect me

[EDIT] I can also fly my ship around non combat areas and take screenshots [/EDIT]

I cannot play the game, i am constantly being disconnected.
I want to go to do the winter event, but i CANNOT, since i am constantly being disconnected.
    Seriously now?

Before any smartass starts to comment, i can play any other MMO on (****, SWTOR, WOW) except this one.

I hope the winter event will get a few bonus days because of this!

The sudden jump in network latency does look suspicious, but in reality, the latency is still well below the Cryptic recommended upper limit of 180 ms of network latency...

What is really needed here is the 'Path Ping' diagnostics, to see if there is any packet loss associated with it, otherwise, there's no real proof of an issue, one way or the other...

since the latest patch, i have NOW lag; the game is almost unplayable. yesterday all was ok, no connection problem, no lags.

btw the forum is also slow, i guess than it uses the same server

and NO, the problem doesn't come from my connection. they have a problem with their servers, that's all.

i can run currently 10 internet services (vid, music, streaming etc) at the same time and i don't have problems. i have only problems with STO

So this says that something is wrong with either the router, or the network interface on your computer. Or is this a WiFi link ?

Try rebooting the Router, and see if this improves things. Or connect the computer directly to the your ISP's modem/gateway...

I'm not having lag that I noticed, but it constantly has server disconnects, kicked me clean out once, and this time it just plain crashed while in the tailor. Now the launcher never loads.

Just deposit 40 autographed 8x10 photos of Q on my characters each day until it's fixed. kthanxbye.

  • qbsneakqbsneak Member Posts: 34 Arc User
For me its not the lag. While lag is present at times, its not that big of an issue. What I am experiencing is it crapping out and freezing between load screens to where I have to use task manager to kill it and then reload the game completely. Its happening way too often. I would say 9 times out of 10 I have to restart the game due to the freezing issue.

I know its not on my end but here's my specs anyways

    Intel i7 970 6 core processor @3.2GHz
    64 bit
    12GB DDR3 Ram
    Windows 10 OS
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 760
    using broadband 150

all my drivers are up to date
