Indeed the metagame isn't perfect right now, or even on par with pre-DR(remember when the main thing people were whining about was T6 ships? lol). But the main thing we gotta do is keep trying to convince the devs what would work better. Because as soon as one of us hits the "THE DEVS NEVER LISTEN TO US" mentality, they become completely useless to our cause, because when you think someone isn't listening to you who actually is, you quit trying to get them to listen.
I know the devs listen. That's why I want to encourage players to keep trying, rather than giving up irrationally.
One of my friend's came back to STO for the Delta Rising expansion, he even started a new toon because he wanted to get 'invested' since he hadn't played for a while. He was doing really well, got up to level 55, though he was already feeling the strain of having to grind patrol missions in between all the DR content from level 50 on (considering you can level to 50 purely through story content these days). Then the XP nerf hit the servers and he spent a week (he's very casual) grinding nothing but patrols when he was able to get on and then gave up out of boredom because he still never got high enough for the next story mission. He's now decided to give up on STO again. We both got Lifer during beta, and it's sad that he just can't face the game for more than a week at a time these days due to the excessive amounts of grind required. But I can't even blame him.
This nerf is going to drive away so many players, it's ridiculous.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
Indeed the metagame isn't perfect right now, or even on par with pre-DR
Really. According to the steam chart user activity is half of when Steam launched Star Trek Online. DR successfully reversed any player gain on it. Accordiing to the private and public queue list, the queues are dead except crystalline and borg queues and STFS and they are even low. Any special queue is almost dead. As to chat, that's dead.
Now moving on to support, hardly anything positive is coming from Star Trek Forums, Reddit, game reviews pointing out the bad, and Youtube videos pointing out the bad. Even on facebook they game is being trashed when they post blogs.
It's worst then the state of the game before PR.
Why?
The developers used some magical metrics and listened to players putting what fits with monetized system.
The first mistake was taking out Genesis although buggy. So they took it out and made patrols in DR that's basically the same thing. It's static and boring, and no extra materials comes from it. At least with Genesis it was a variable way of getting materials and some skill point. That was basically a nerf.
Second is the whole R&D development thing. I like it but they made it a dilithium and material sink. (Although they took out Genesis which would have been a good source of materials).
Third they made hull points some crazy number instead of making the AI just a tad smarter without increasing hull point that much.
The queues.
The specialization point
and above all
Calling players exploiters and cheaters for trying to make do with the new systems. You can still make 17 times the specialization points.
Oh I know they listen, especially having heard the 6 people on the Q&A team say their work comes from players testing builds live.
All the more reason for criticism when we know they do know what is going on and they do read the forums.
Remember when al rivera said there hadn't been any feedback on the doff UI changes?
Well if at least they really didn't know what was going on, you really could use excuses like that.
Oh I am sorry, as (assistant to the) lead designer I haven't been on my own forum for 3 years...
The story as I have experienced it since I got here is one of deleting or indirectly killing every feature know to players month after month after month.
For example tour the galaxy or daily mirror event, console fabrication, reputation passives, exploration and so on and so on.
And we all get it, they want to control all the battery hens to fit perfectly into their metrics.
We can't have some renegade player go earn more EC than anticipated using vendor trash, red alert call in the fleet.
And as painful and pointless as removing features we were using has been in the past - up until this point it has been possible to cope with because then you'd go do something else.
But as of DR they have litterly killed everything in the whole game - I guess a point could be made for contraband farming being the last outpost.
So as far as being controlled that was always an illusion on their part they sought after, for me personally - I don't dispute you can control whales and addicts easily and I also don't dispute that the game is doing awesome, especially in terms of the dil worth 10 t6 ships people are paying to upgrade weapons.
I absolutely and completely hate it - not because of the leveling speed or the nerfed dil, those actually don't really matter.
So negotiate about what speed you should level at is pretty damned pointless - because the whole game is missing now.
I get the point that you get further with a kind word and they probably do act based off all those times they took offense to negative feedback from the forums.
So we ought to somehow try and put them up on the developer apologist demi-god pedistal hoping we, if not make any changes to the game, at least take 10% off nerfs occasionally - IF, we can pull of kissing enough butt.
I completely understand that point of view and it's totally legit, for all intents and purposes you are completely right.
Way I see it is we have to protest that entire culture for the sake of all games everywhere.
If a game is TRIBBLE it should go under.
No game should stay alive just because it has the star trek license - because we don't want other games in the future trying to slug it through on half impulse just based off the brand.
Same reason you should not support the upgrading, crafting, t5u - not because those are TRIBBLE systems all copy-pasted with no animations.
No, you should not support those because we don't want more of those in the future.
Think of it like this:

Developer - cash - behaviour
Now it's all your responsibility what happens, instead of bending the head in submission over scraps and leftovers, it's all your turf as the paying customer

Hopefully Cryptic fix specialization back to what it was because they are now getting bad reviews everywhere. I guess revenge of the playerbase is now kicking in. It's just 17 times bad on Cryptic side.
well, X2 or X3 would actually be good, not X17 ... lol, the tribble stuff looks ok, but not sure what i was seeing with that, looks like we could USE that morale boost lately for real though

Still, 2x or 3x in Argala is assuredly 17x faster than elsewhere.
Personally, I just think the numbers on Tribble are just for Tribble. But we'll see.
I know the devs listen. That's why I want to encourage players to keep trying, rather than giving up irrationally.
I think they are listening, and I think they care. I think some of them play the game as players and are well aware of what its problems are.
However, I think they're being pushed in a certain direction from above and it's not necessarily a good one. And if that's the case, then I'm not sure any way we frame these arguments will lead to major changes.

Morale Point Boost (Large): 800 Zen
I think the delta patrol missions will get the boost but the other numbers from tribble - doff and regular kills will remain as they are now on holodeck.

the XP ratios are better. It is now more efficient to actually play the game, whereas before it was faster to just DO assign and log out.
However the AMOUNT of xp needed to level is way off. It now takes a casual player a good week to get 1 level; even a hard core player is pressed to get more than 1/day. The effect of this is mostly negative in a variety of ways:
- casual players fall farther behind. This is compounded by trying to farm dil for upgrades, etc. Result is top players and average players have an *even bigger* gap now. Working hard on your character should make you better, but not *multiples* better. 10% better? Ok. 5 times better? Issue.
- alts are too much trouble. People that enjoy playing all the content, with alts in all 3 factions and a variety of ships (paid for...) and years of hard work on them... all gone. The xp needed to unlock specializations and the resources required to upgrade are simply insurmountable -- its not enjoyable to run multiple characters anymore.
- lack of content. If there were 1000 new quests to do so we could earn our 50 levels of specializations that might be fun. As it stands, doing all the DR content once is NOT EVEN enough xp to reach 60. Let alone level 100 or whatever it is for a full spec tree.
- law of unintentional consequences. It is now better to start over, make a new char, and level it without doing quests, then do the quests at 60 for inflated XP to unlock the spec tree. I would bet an expert player could do this and be farther along in the same amount of time than an established player trying to grind the specialization tree at 60 with no quests left to do.
The xp/level needs to be reduced. A lot. And there needs to be enough quests to reach at least level 70 without repeats.
But! but! it's... "The Best Expansion Everz!!!!11!!" lol
Just wait, I'm sure there'll be more gasoline for them to improve the bonfire soon, and they'll revel in the brightness and not realise what the flames are touching

The latest Priority One podcast contains a denial that anything was nerfed. The fact that the denial came from Geko should clear it all up.
You're all mistaken now please shut up and give Cryptic your money.
It cleared it up. He also cleared up that this was the best expansion ever.
He also cleared up Patrols are the priodigy content. It's for everything from leveling, experience, and grinding but not for everything like leveling, experience, or grinding.
The funny thing (funny like point and laugh at a car crash funny) is that even in this thread it is suggested that 'as intended' progression is you gain a level for running 3 missions. Given that you need 150k xp to level right now, it means each mission should be paying out around 50k even by their own standards. So either they can't do some simple math, or they're knowingly assuming we can't. Its pretty bad when ya can't even hold them to their own design standards, never mind ours.

They just couldn't bring themselves to utter those words publicly, but I'm sure they are laughing about it long and hard around the water cooler. And they might as well be; there are still lots of people playing even though many of us have thrown in the towel.
It's gone on far too long to expect any reasonable change at this point. It is what it is. They are all about the new player and new money. Us vets who started DR as level 50's with every story mission done prior to its release will either grind and pay or quit.
