[–]CarrowCanary@DMA-1986. Opinionated Brit in a Bortasqu

    Dell Studio 1749

Stats. Technically DX11 will run on it, but I can't be arsed to sort out the drivers so it'll have DX10 and like it.

    [–]torpedoguy

Acer V5-552G. No problems, most things on high. Just don't keep it on your lap while playing. Can probably fry bacon on there
    .

    [–]ThrustersOnFull

    Lenovo Y-500.

I'm actually a little amazed at what I'm able to do on this thing.

    [–]johnnyfive622

I can actually run the game pretty well on a lenovo yoga 2.

    [–]Lonnert

    Asus R.O.G. G75VW

Almost everything maxed out and runs smooth... except Undine Battlezone more player - lesser fps

    I run on a Toshiba Satellite A355.

I am unsure of the "sub-model" at this moment but I will update this post when I get home and check. The laptop is several years old now and is by far out classed by now.

3 or 4 year old Toshiba L650D-03E014. Runs game fairly well, some problems in Undine BZ for example.
Runs modded Skyrim fairly well, along with most slightly-less-than-new games. Falling a bit behind, but surprised how well it's kept up.
AMD Turion II P520 2.3GHz Dual Core, 4GB Ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650 1GB. Would definitely recommend something with an Intel i-series processor instead though.

    LG R405 , ATI graphics card .

Used to be able to play until LOR & it's graphics "upgrade" .

Now it just overheats & shuts down .

    Not recommended .

However I am looking to pick up a second hand Mac Pro for some easy video editing ... , so if anyone has some positive experiences with STO on those , I'd like to hear a recommended model ... .

    Dell Inspirion N5010

    4 GB ram

It's a pretty old model too, back before dell had the removable panel on back of the monitor to change the color.

graphics setting are set about half way and the game runs perfectly except on the moments where there are to many things on the screen but everyone's pc has that with the game engine used for STO.

HP Envy15 j184na and j186na both run the game on max settings

Lenovo Z50-70 with the 840m run it on high settings

My Lenovo u430 Touch with NVidia 730m runs it on high settings without any issue, usually get 60fps in missions and STFs and around 40 on ESD and other populated areas. Doesn't get warm and the fan is quiet too

Oh, I also got a Samsung R510 (core2duo intel, 4GB ram) which turns to be... 5 years old I believe. It could still load STO, although in low-res.

It's fine by me if I need to do some quick foundry work.

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

I think it's fair to say that with most 'bog standard' laptops up to 5 years old can run the game on low to medium graphics settings, so long as two conditions are followed:

1)keep the laptop raised off the surface by a good few inches to allow airflow underneath

    2) keep a decent fan blowing closest to the section of your laptop where the GPU is located.

mine is located on the left side of my Acer,, so that is where my fan is :)

ASUS G50 Core2duo 2.2 GHz 4GB Geforce 9800m "Republic of Gamers". Graphics card puts off so much heat you can cook with it. Has really cheesy "gamer" art on the case and "pseudo neon" light bars imbedded in the case...

On sale in 2007 for $500...

    Playable...Maybe I should get a cheap 4GB ram stick...

Some dual core were made better than some triple or quad core system. System Bus / Clock Speed is the killer here. Some are really slow and some are really quick. Today's CPU can do dual roles like AMD APU (advanced processor unit) these have GPU right on SoC.

    A8 has 4 CPU cores + 4 GPU cores
A10 has 4 CPU cores + 6 GPU cores also has true audio tech
    Turbo Core A8/A10
    Dual Graphic A8/A10

So if you have this in laptop or desktop you have enough power to try this game at the max in graphics.

The ram does help but i'll just get a better laptop rather then upgrade that. Mainly because your dell also has the radeon chip. mine has intel hd and it borrows from ram and sucks at most games. STO is one of the exceptions i have found for it.

Bonobo Extreme from System76 running Win 7. Runs full speed with maximum graphics settings, no problem.

    from polkadotafrocircus via /r/sto/

ASUS ROG G53US (I think)... Packs a GTX560 (2G), upgraded to 16G RAM and an SSD. Runs everything maxed. Dual monitor so I can browse or watch videos while I play.
I bought it late in 2011 but it still plays most games optimized (except Witcher 2). I just played Bioshock Infinite yesterday for the first time with settings maxed and it looked great. And smooth.

sagernotebook.com is where the best gaming laptops come from and start as low as $500.
As for me, I only play on my desktop. My sager might run it but its from 2009 and this game is also so I'm not entirely sure. It has a 280m GTX as the card and 4 gb of ram.
If you are going to buy a new laptop, the processor really does not matter these days as they all are fast, it's the graphics card that does a lot of the heavy lifting in games. As long as you have at least 2 gb of ram you should not have problems. I have yet to see a game run more than 1.5gb of ram on my computers. Ram is super cheap anyway.

If you do not know graphics cards then here is the secret:
The first number is usually not as important as the last ones. For example: the 7 series and the 6 series are similar if you have a 650 and 750, the 750 will be slightly faster, but they are the same league basically. A 680 and a 780 are the higher end with the 690 and 790 being top. The same applies to radeon. I have 6970's which would be similar to 7970's or 5970's. You don't need top of the line as long as you stay above XX60 or X60 you should be good. the XX60's are usually considered mid tier and always can perform most things and don't really cost too much.

    grandnagusurst via /r/sto/

I play on a mid-2012 Retina MacBook Pro (15") and have every setting maxed out and the resolution set to 1080p. Had to turn off bloom though because I couldn't see my ship when multiple shield effects overlap (like the CC shield hardness trait) and I play via Bootcamp/Win 8.1 because the OS X client is unbearably buggy

I have a Toshiba Satellite with an i7 3630QM; and both Intel 4000 and GeForce 640M graphics. Does the job well enough. I get between about 30 to 45 FPS usually, but then again I do tend to have a lot of browser windows open at the same time

    Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 from 2012.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246626

It gets a little warm after an extended time playing, but nothing too bad. I need to open it up and clean out the dust. Only downside is the 14" 1366x768 resolution screen. With the UI set up the way I have it, more screen real estate would be nice.

    Macbook Pro, 10.9.5, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
It runs pretty decent with default settings, but I need to tone it down for space battles that have a lot of ships. The fan runs like crazy when I play, though.

Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" (MB991*/A), though it's no longer my primary STO machine.

    from tyderian via /r/sto/

15" Macbook Pro w/Retina, early 2013 model. Running STO on my Windows 8.1 position.
Before DR, I had no issues with the default/auto detect settings except in 20 player maps. After DR, I have issues with many space maps and have started using renderscale 0.5 (which still looks pretty good as it's 1440x900).

    from Esco91 via /r/sto/

Err, mines a HP Pavilion g6. It's red, for tactical missions.
Runs STO rather smoothly despite being 3 years old, although I have to keep the fan area well clear of any obstacles. Only time I ever have a problem is occasionally in sb24, when theres hundreds of kdf ships around me.

    Lenovo G780

    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M (but there are I7 versions)
    6gb DDR3

    Intel® HD graphics 4000 (integrated)
    NVIDIA GeForce GT630 2GB (discrete)
(Good luck getting it to stop being stupid and use the 630 properly without disabling the integrated >:- ( )

500GB HD (though there are 1 TB versions)
    17.3" HD 16:9 widescreen (1600x900)

It served me well when I desired to stop paying attention in college. I got it to run STO for about an hour and 15 on battery.

I personally always ran it on low, so it wouldn't get so hot and make so much noise, and it ran fairly well.
