The Laptop Thread (which laptops run sto)

I would like this to be a public service thread, everyone who plays STO on a laptop, please post your laptop make and model hear, i was looking for a cheap (ish) laptop that could play STO

and i was astounded by the lack of info, so i did my best, and was pleasantly surprised with not only with the game running, but on medium graphics too!




Before everyone starts on the "Minimum requirement" thing. there are many laptops and pc's that are under this requirement that happily run this game and have done for some time.

    I've got a Samsung RC730, I7 6GB ram. Win7 64x-bit.

    It runs STO like a dream. But if I have to give you a hint; buy a cooler-board for underneath your laptop. You don't want to burn your legs. ;):D

    Well for lolz I decided to try to run the game on my 3 year old Acer travelmate 5744 (ie. totally bog standard laptop) and I was plesantly surprised to see I can get it to run fine on med graphic level!

    Of course this is for if i'm away from home or if i am too lazy to get out of bed :D

    MSI GT627 runs without issue and is now pretty ancient as a 2007 laptop.

    I use a Fujitsu Lifebook. Intel Core i5 2.50GHz, 6GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 Graphics and Win8 x64. I don't use max settings but it runs fair on mid-ish settings with certain visual effects turned off. I get more trouble out of my crappy Internet connection.

    Also, as stoutes hinted, I also use a cooling mat with x2 USB fans. I managed to um...melt the graphics card from my old laptop so I learned the hard way. That was a Dell, and it lasted me 6+ years of near constant use so it did well for itself.

    Mine is a custom made i7-3820QM 2.7 Ghz that is already a few years old. GPU is an AMD Radeon HD8970M along with an integrated Intel HD 4000.

    The main disk is SSD but I have a secondary HDD where I have the game installed. It runs at maximum settings at around 20~40 FPS. Not the best rate, but the most graphic intensive missions like Crystalline and NWS do not make it cough up at least. My other games run flawlessly on it.

    I run it on a 4+ year old Acer aspire with an intel hd graphics card. Can't run on high graphics and I have to turn a fan on it to keep it cool, but it does run the game well enough to play.
    Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

    Wow! This game can be run i3 1.7GHz Dual Core with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM 1920 x 1080P connected to SONY 40-inch HDTV via 1.4 HDMI port. Today I don't run on that though I wish I could but I use that laptop as my DVR with 4 network HD Tuners. So it's busy already daily.

    On a desktop now run that game with no issues. Running the game can't say about the software itself.

    This is a wonderful thread. As it gives me an idea for a future computer purchase. Since mine is old. And I'm due for a new computer.

    I've run it on an i3 or less easy, I am not saying its a super gaming machine but it works you want to tweak its settings it works fine.

    Mostly 60 FPS but on heavy areas still 30-40...

    I'm playing on a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5212. Specs are as follows:

    - Intel Core i3 Processor 2.1Ghz
    - 8GB DDR3 RAM
    - Intel Integrated Graphics
    - 180GB Intel Solid-State Hard Drive

    The game runs pretty decent, although I do keep a few things turned off like shadows and generally try to keep detail distances set to medium.

    I play with max settings on a 7 year old desktop. You guys worry too much. This game is 5 years old. You'll be fine as long as you have a graphics chip from nVidia or AMD.

    gen 1 intel i5 processor with intel hd graphics

    4 GB ram

    It's a pretty old model too, back before dell had the removable panel on back of the monitor to change the color.

    graphics setting are set about half way and the game runs perfectly except on the moments where there are to many things on the screen but everyone's pc has that with the game engine used for STO.

    I'm playing on a 2013 13" MacBook Air with the Haswell i5, Intel HD 5000 graphics, an SSD, and 8 gb of ram.

    I run Windows 8.1 on a Bootcamp partition and have STO installed on both my OS X and Windows partitions. (On my mac side, it is on the SSD, and it's installed on an external hard drive for windows)

    It works like a dream on Windows; I can get about 30 FPS on medium-high settings. On Mac, aside from the weird bugs, I can get about 5 FPS lower on the same settings.
    Proposal - If we're going to be Fleet Admirals, let's act the part.

    My HP ENVY Dv6 with the A10 Vision graphics system runs it fine, at 1080p on my 42" TV. Granted, I tune down the graphics to avoid overheating, but it handles high settings fine as well.

    I bought this machine a bit over a year ago, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't cutting edge even then.

    HP Pavilion 17 with AMD cpu and Radeon integrated graphics. Windows 8.1 64bit. My wife purchased it at Wal-Mart a month ago for around US $600.00. My five year old HP which also ran the game well decided it was time to power down for good. The new laptop has HDMI. STO looks and plays very nicely on my 42" plasma TV with the surround sound on full. But if I wear my TNG uni while playing STO "on the big screen", I get odd looks from my daughter and eye rolls from my wife. So the Klingon uni is completely out of the question, lol.

    Game runs fine on this laptop as long as I keep the graphic settings on the low side of medium. I set everything up so Ground does not stutter and this seems to work fine for Space as well. I've never seen STO with the graphics turned all the way up. However, I used to play with the old half Resolution setting on as well.

    I can verify that STO does not run on an Epson HX-20.

    Sleekbook HP Pavilion 15-b105la, 8Gb ram, Works great at full.. only choppy in CE and some patrol missions in the delta quadrant... it's my main gaming rig :)

    Yes it runs fine if you turn the graphics all the way up, but your a laptop will start to get hot so pick up the ONN Cool Laptop Fan from Walmart for $14 bucks it has 120mm turbo fan with variable speed. It uses USB to operate it but the USB can be connected to your USB to AC optional. There is a bright blue LED light on that too. I have two of these ONN Cooling FAn Pads. It's a must for laptops thus keeps it cooler.
