Launcher crashing when pressing Engage

I've tried several times to get into the game, even re-patching and rebooting the machine didn't help.
As soon as I hit the Engage button in the launcher the launcher closes but the game client doesn't start. I've checked the Processes tab in my windows task manager and that shows the same behaviour. The launcher process disappears but the game client process does not start.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit and I've never had this issue before today's patch.
What can I do to get back into the game?
Edit: Verifying files three times in a row finally fixed it. Still, what can be done to prevent something like this from happening?
