I hear good things, I hear bad things. We Mac users don't know because since Tuesday we haven't been able to stay logged on longer than 5 minutes... So please tell me your favorite thing to do in DR... (because then this thread won't be moved to the dark dungeon of mac support forum, where no devs ever venture.)
Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
Hello fellow Mac users, let me see if I can help. I had the crashing issue with the new ESB so try logging once you hit charter selection on the bottom right go to options select the graphics tab and change the GPU setting (top left slider) to minimum and maybe the CPU one and see if that helps.
The STO Mac app is not a native Mac application it uses an emulator (a program to simulate another OS environment) so the app can't use the computer full power. I have an 2012 27" iMac base model and the GPU was my issue and still is for havey ground combat. For my iMac I have the CPU max setting and the GPU on two full bars.

Thanks it seems to be working

I've found most Mac users are quite aware that STO runs in a wrapper... may be where some of the issues are found. Important, but established, point.
Also, it seems most Mac users run on lower graphics as it is. I had the same settings 30 minutes before DR hit... no effect.
Most of us are aware it's a wrapper. It bugs the hell out of me we have to run at lower settings. As for why game on a Mac, usually most of us make our livings on our Macs....

This.
Also, it's not 2001. The Mac is a perfectly viable and stable OS, with great hardware to back it up. The whole "Mac v. PC" debate is a thing of the past, at least in most circles.
I set both to minimum and was able to play a patrol mission with no crashes

That would involve buying windows though
Sometimes it pays to have it. My wife uses my computer at times for her work. Specially if hers is not working well. And I play STO with it on the Windows side. As they didn't have a Mac version when I first started playing. So therefor I was using it mostly for STO and a few other things.
I just hadn't took time to download it onto the Mac side. So I keep playing on bootcamp.

Not only would that entail buying Windows, but it would have to partition my drive to handle two computer systems.
I *can* do that, but I don't *want* to do that... and since there's supposed to be a viable native Mac client, I shouldn't have to do any of that.
It pays at time to have it. Partition the hard drive isn't that bad. I had mine done for years now. I first started playing STO with Windows as it was the Only way to play it. Only reason why I hadn't got it on the Mac side yet. Is due to my computer's age, which I'm about to upgrade one soon, and I hadn't got around to it yet to install on my Mac side. Since I already have it on my Windows side. Plus my wife can use it as well for her work. As they don't support Mac on some programs she uses. Not to mention I play Command & Conquer some as well. So I can still play those older games some.
Best part of Boot camp is what you can do with it. Where else you can run on computer with 2 different OS. So I get the full potential out of my computer. Just like now I can still play STO why other Mac users can't. I got around the issue.

Yeah I am a Mac user and i havent even been able to open the official Mac version of the game. The launcher just closes by itself. I am playing in wineskin but it does crashes a lot and is a bit laggy. Called upon support but they don't seem to be able to solve it as of yet. Going to give it another try soon.

Oh, it's tempting... and far better an option than running a VM or emulator.
It will be my last-ditch option. Glad to hear it works!
Would still involve buying Windows though, and as I have literally no other use for it, there's little sense in me handing over £100 as a 'workaround' for something that should work already

Exactly.
Plus, there's always the tiny caveat of getting a virus on your Windows partition... that could mess up your whole HD.

I hope we get to see it some day!
Gosh, zip lining? Who knew? Jay I'd love to able to zip line in game right now.

Awoken Dead
Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
I've barely been able to unpack the Delta Pack on all five of my alts, before the game crashes.
I'm a few days from finishing Tier 5 of 8472 Rep, and I'll hit level 15 in at least one school... very soon to be three schools.
Can't take advantage of any of that, or of the new expansion, because... the game won't stop crashing.
Thanks it seems to be working

I give you a good hint. Try Bootcamp and get on your Windows side. This is how I play STO.

My computer is no toy. I can run both platforms off one computer. Mac or PC. Double the computer.
