Not gotten far into DR play through but I'm noticing a trend.
Cryptic, endless patrol missions were a bad idea three years ago, and they're still a bad idea. At first it wasn't so bad as you did mix them up (a little) and it isn't just an "orbit a planet and kill five groups" mission.
Then I noticed that the missions were just "Lets dump another sizeable chunk of HP for the player to chew through at 1KM from them, in their rear arc just so the Escorts have to take time to extend away first".
Its bad and boring game-play. Less HP and it could work. But having just played through the second half of a patrol mission (3x Systems), a story episode, and then another full Patrol mission (4x systems) I'm glad you're taking the game down for maintenance.
God help the new Lvl50 with a Sci captain in a off the shelf science ship in this.
The missions aren't taking long at all on normal...I shred them to pieces...
with little to no xp for doing them in normal. hell even in elite the patrol ships only gove 250 ish xp. and some of the patrol missions where you just disable ship you get none zero xp for the time involved.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.

Yep, we're back to bad old days of Cryptic thought long gone. This time though they're charging more than a monthly sub for the "pleasure" of it all. Shame really as I loved the last expansion and really thought Cryptic had gotten their game together...
Anything that happens, happens. Anything that in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen. Anything that in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
It doesn't necessarily do it in chronological order though.
Indeed, the game has definitely been rebalanced but while more HP can be more tedious/assinine/stupid/bleeeeeeeearghpttttttttt it does encourage you to get your **** together. That's not to say "gold MK XIV or go home" but simply "fix your setup." STO has thus far accommodated just about everyone regardless of competence in ship building and the change here is that DR doesn't (its still pretty lax [on normal] but if you're badly setup now you definitely feel it).
If you're finding combat too tedious go back and think a bit harder about how you're trying to approach it. Thus far I've found that whenever things have started to seem too dull its because I was just trying to plow on with a build or strategy that survived before only because the game didn't bother to ask me to do better.
[And the result of this is a more engaged player base who'll hopefully do more than spastically fire at whatever auto-targeting lines up for them, which is particularly important when the format of the game (ie. the MMO parts of STO) generally push for the brain being switched off instead.]

Some of those patrols actually work into the DR story if you read the chat boxes. Sadly most ppl hit skip and just pewpew.
maybe if the story was any good. and i might be ok for a fed player but a KDF Klingon we are fighting the wrong people over there.
the kobali are holding inocent vaadwaur hostage in stasis tube just waiting for them to die so they can use the bodies. i side with the vaadwaur in this we are fighting the wrong people. we shoudl help the vaadwaur. And starfleet is fine with this it seems. "we are not here to change the people but to protect them" wow belive that **** they hold people hostage in stasis tubes and the federation is fine with that. and they already know those people were not the warriors they were scientist and such at least thats what the info says when you scan the tubes. this is below low.
at every point where a choice should be made on who to support the game forces us to choose the federation stand point and they get it wrong on every account. even the cooperative borg vrs ocanti patrol mission. we are forced to choose and support the borg. i agree with ocanti they will turn on us in the end. even the borgs message of thanks at end of patrol mission ( wich sucks all that fighting and no xp per ship disabled) the borg clearly states that they belive the collective is of greater value than a single life, and any trek fan knows this is vulcan logic BS Kirk and crew proved that when they rescued spok. the needs of the many do not always outweigh the needs of the few or the one. and this is why Kirk was the BEST federation captain ever. and even respected by Klingons. basically it boils down to utopia loving feddy bears being so nieve to belive the coop will never decide that their own existence is of more value than some lesser species based solely on number. take the talaxians on the new home world they stole from somebody. when the coop finds it and decides they need a home planet whats to stop them from just moving in. since they clearly believe the many are worth more than the one. its all liberal federation propaganda BS.
I hear tons of people gripe about the difficulty personally its not too bad for me boring as all get out just sit there (yes sit no reason to fly around) even on elite to get the extra xp they are not hurting me. so i park and pew pew them till i get the green light to move on and do another . but It is the story that so many seem to be ok with that is driving me nuts.

patrol missions should be separate from episode missions
This this thissity this this this.
I don't mind the patrol missions, but I do mind them being cheap episode fodder. Do you guys have writers or not? You have the entire Voyager run to utilize. You did really well with the non-patrol eps. I enjoyed them immensely. Stop being lazy gits.

Oh please ... the story is as good as encountering the Third Borg Dynasty ... hilarious they got rid of these Missions, to replace it with Scan / Talk to X & shoot Enemy Y - Patrols ... I could agree on Tau Dewa Patrols being actually pretty good & diverse, but DR Patrols always follow the same boring pattern ...

they are just having all play patty cake with these new borg so they can release a borg lockbox and let people mess up what little is left of the game by fling around in borg cubes and spheres.
i screwed up and bought both the new ships and 4 upgrade tokens really wish i had waited a little now. its not looking good. the mission stink alteaset from my point of view some may like them. the game play is just boring. still easy kills just takes 4 times longer. and the rewards are less. im just glad all my toons are maxed in the reps already and already have all the gear they could need. except this new rep which is already one project into t2 and i only do the dailies never touch the Hourly stuff total waste of marks.

There are at least some Escort & Diplomatic Missions in Tau Dewa ...
... sorry but I'm still looking for some DR Patrol, which do not fit the following pattern :
Interact with X (talk/scan), Enemy Y shows up - shoot 5 times - done
Please enlighten me here ...
The Race, Zahl blockade run, first encounter with heirarchy, second encounter with heirarchy, hirogen array, first mission with borg cooperative, first mission with the octani. I think it might be easier to list off those missions which JUST follow the shoot lots of dudes in waves after a single contact with no options format. There's two or three helping out the benthans...and that's pretty much it.
You haven't actually played a whole lot of them have you, or payed much attention to those you have because even when you're facing waves (oh the horror of having lots of space combat in a primarily build around space combat) how those are deployed is a hell of a lot more varied than in previous missions of this sort. And except for the odd arrival of a flag ship in tau dewa those had absolutely NO variable elements. No alternative mission pathways, no random aspects (some in DR have completely different endings.)
The new patrols are unequivocably better than previous ones.

This is the team that took the WORST written bad guys in the WORST written trek show (VOY writing was worse than ENT, yes), and took that and wrote even WORSE story on top of that to give us FREAKING DINOBOTS IN SPACE.
And you expect them to produce good writing shortly after that mess?
I am not surprised at the lack of quality storytelling. Cryptic once upon a time had a spark of imagination. I can only assume those people were fired or driven out because they didn't agree with the dictator-in-chief.

i havent found a mission yet that let me choose which side to support yet like one of the TD patrol mission. the one where you have the feddy option to try and talk it out or the Klingon option do what i say or i shot option. or even the eta erra mission where you can protect the freighter or choose to destroy the freighter. those are options. these follow the script click click click dialog shot/scan/repair rinse and repeate are not options

Sorry what does "Deployment" matter it's still the same shoot 5-Wave Mission ... played ~10 different Patrols and afaik both Hierarchy, Hirogen Array and the one with Hugh are those kind of missions ... sure you'll get a nice Textbox and can sometimes choose between 3 Options, but the Outcome is always "Congrats you shot 5 Waves now be gone" ... no Diplomacy, no Exploration, no Escorts, haven't seen anything on Ground yet etc ...

lol 3 options that lead to the same outcome yeah LOL thats a choice for sure. after playing it to the same point lvl 55 with 3 toons i tried them differently to see if it was differnt and it wasnt. but all 3 were Klingons jsut one of each profession tac sci and eng.

One mission that stuck with me is the one with 2 artificial life forms belonging to 2 ancient races that long since died off that are still warring, and they demand some power cores you recovered.
You can choose to hand them to either side, keep the cores or destroy the cores in front of them.

got that one yeah but in the end who cares the choice is the same they are both the same and only fighting each other one choice is the same as the other. so choose silver fight gold same force size same ships. chose gold fight silver same force size same ships. or choose neither
so basic option give it to the buyers?(screwed by a ferengi) (( federation Species ))
give it to the creators ( rightful owners).
or destroy (condemning a mech species to death).
even a Klingon knows right from wrong only one real choice to make.

So basically you have absolutely no interest in gameplay [in your view it just seems to happen, never mind how it happens] and story [its just text, so then why do you have any interest in "diplomacy"], and yet its the GAME's fault for not engaging you as much with the DR patrols as....the tau dewa missions which were worse for grinding and combat emphasis even by your own criteria.

I don't actually have an issue with the NPC difficulty on normal gameplay. It's just right actually, not so easy that you cut through them like a hot knife through butter... but challenging enough in groups to actually need to use your heals every so often.
