I think it's time to move forward with designs from both an aesthetic and functional stand point. Too much in-game time has passed for us to continue to make upgrades and retrofits to old ships. I understand that this happens to actual large military vehicles but let's be honest, we treat our STO ships like our personal cars, not government-owned vehicles. We need new stuff all the time because that's what keeps us interested and Cryptic in business.
Aesthetic:
The Intel ships have the right idea, i'm just not a huge fan of the result. The Delta Quadrant is (basically) new territory for us and requires some new techniques (including a new look to match). I'd like all of T6 to have original looking ships but stick within the basic identity (FED=saucer and nacelles, KDF=muscular hull and two wings at the back, ROM=broad, forward-swept wings).
Function:
Much like the combined damage types we've had for a bit, I think T6 should be populated only by combination ships: Tac/Sci, Eng/Tac, etc. This would diversify the playing field by allowing each ship to have a major and a minor with the use of a Universal Commander BOFF. For example, the Tac/Sci ship would have a Lt. Commander Tac, a Lt. Commander Sci, and then a Universal Commander to determine your major and you minor. Then that ship would have a Lt Eng and a Universal Ensign.
