Can anyone please tell me WHY on God's green Earth would ANY Server Administrator with more than 2 (two) pathetically-shrunken and degraded brain cells to beat together take down a Server, with more than a half a million Players, for Maintenance on a FRIDAY night, during what is inarguably a PEAK USAGE TIME ??!?!!???!!
Let me help a little with this - as a Server Administrator myself - "High-availability maintenance windows are often planned for a time where activity is at its lowest so as to cause minimal disruption to customers"
Hhhhhmmmmmm.....what a ******* concept THAT must be...!!!
What could possibly be wrong with doing this in the MIDDLE OF THE ****** NIGHT ??!?!!!? Or, does that come too close to actually making 'sense'...?? Until now, I would have never suspected Cryptic of being a Government Agency.....but this BS sure makes me wonder.....
Sincerely,
One ticked-off Player who has worked and waited

on a FRIGGIN' FRIDAY NIGHT !!!

Speaking as a fellow server/systems administrator, sometimes we're forced to make decisions to run maintenance at the worst possible times for users.
Sometimes there's an absolutely critical patch to run, sometimes the server is overheating and you have to shut it down to replace a fan before it melts.
Sometimes you just don't have maintenance time periods to begin with.
Sometimes you have a drive array that's about to fail and you need to take the server down to rebuild it, or to replace the controller.
Computers aren't perfect, and excrement happens. I manage 28 servers for a high-end resort, and my 'normal' maintenance hours are between 0400 and 0700 - I have a 3 hour window, once a month, in which I can perform maintenance tasks. And you know what? It's physically impossible to get it all done in that 3 hours, so things end up getting shuffled around, and the users learn to live with it.
Maybe there was some game-breaking bug that had to be fixed ASAP. Maybe there's a critical patch that needs to go out. Sit back, grab a Dr Pepper, and wait for the system to come back up.

It's a dark Cryptic game day. It seems like They don't care.
E-mergency up-keep, to try to fix the software.
All the players are resistant, and try to put up a fight.
The forums flare-up and then Trendy begins...
It's gonna be a long night.

agreed! this just reeks of high-level incompetence...it's like me shutting my restaurant down on a Friday night for cleaning. even if my kitchen needs it, I'm not about to TRIBBLE off that many customers. being open on Friday night is business 101.

Because if they didnt take it down now the UK people would cry that they always get it going down during their prime time. They constantly act like the world is supposed to revolve around them.
