Yeah, elite only seems like a design mistake. My typical strategy for attempting any queued content for the first time is to run normal first so I actually know what I'm getting into with minimal chance for an outright failure.
You learn normal, then you're ready to graduate to elite. Reasonable enough.
With the elite-only approach, it's like taking someone who doesn't know how to swim, throwing them into ice-cold shark-infested waters while saying, "okay, now figure out how to swim to shore in one piece. Good luck!"
Two questions I'm waiting for the answer to is where did the Vaadwaur get all this advance technology from? An for a species that was almost wipe out, where did they get such large number of ships and troops from?
It would also be interesting if this was more dynamic, like Borg alerts, the Vaadwaur should show up randomly across the quadrant and systems.
In fairness, they have said that the Elite Queues all warrant the toppest level gear you can get. It's just going to suck if you hop into a Pug with people who weren't paying attention to that and get wiped.
True, tho then again I am not sure just how good of gear I need for this, most everything on my ship is I think Mk X purple or better and even then not sure I am going to be good enough.

I'll not spoil it, but that's part of the story in the solo missions coming with delta rising. Some of the new queues you have to get far enough in the story to unlock so by the time you try them they will make sense.
Notice how they specifically called out captains who park their ships and shoot in the blog? That's going to be interesting. I can already forsee a lot of people crying about it, but I think it's good. ships are supposed to be mobile, not park and shoot turrets.
You do realise this is really ***** for people who fly scimitars and other large ships right? especially if they're tac's.
In case you hadn't noticed it wouldnt be an issue if their base turn rate was actually decent lol.
this essentially screws over people who use dreadnaughts which im not happy about seeing as im one of them.
They need to allow 360 movement for player ships and not just enemy ships because the idea that you shouldnt be "stationary" when you have practically no choice in a dreadnaught that runs cannons with a ***** turn rate is rediculous when you dont even provide them a decent form of ship flying to begin with.
As for the Queue guess im not playing this till ive got all my gear up to XIV
Need to make a PDF Handbook Guide for Elite Mission Objective on PVE. Otherwise everyone going to attack the wrong target first. Or do whatever they want to do!
This is my gripe does anyone know when this supposed to start? Everyone's gripping about it but there is no start date and it is not in the queue at all yet! Elite or otherwise.
Guess you don't read the dev blogs well... this is part of DR which launchs on 10/14. It is live on Tribble, not on Holodeck
How are the Vaadwaur even a threat in this time? There were only around 1000 left when Voyager departed their planet in 2376, it is now 2405. So in 29 years even if their population growth rate was 15% (which is 10 times the current human growth rate) there should only be around 57000 Vaadwaur. Not really enough to start an interstellar war.
Livestream didn't make this look tough at all, although I guess Smirk's teammates could have been carrying in the two they made good progress in. But I thought the whole point of the new elite was that you couldn't carry anymore and required a full team of good ships with good gear and varied ability builds? It really looks like this is just bring DPS, beat clocks, win.
I'm hoping this is the "easy" elite and the ones that actually have normal/advanced will be tougher/require more teamwork, but I'm skeptical now.

It was alluded to on the last live stream that there is an alpha quadrant connection (storyline) to explain why they are so numerous and powerful.
Cheers!

Just saw the Tribble notes:
Great news.
