I wonder if it is male orion, I've yet to see one running around academy or in ground pve queues. I've seen lethean, gorn, nausicaan, plenty of female orion. Heck, I've seen more pakled in ground queues than male orion

    hmm...

I would echo the observation (though i dont see many letheans/nausicaans either.. butt ugly!)

    HAving said that... i have one of each ^^;

Male orions are great fun.. ABS!!!

    (edit)
Oh there is the Trill too.. premium species an not that popular as KDF science ships are not that useful either (trill skills good for sci)((before i get it in the neck yes there are awesom kdf sci ship builds likely.. i just never get to see em))

Letheans are the least played race in the KDF.

They make Orion Males look like a swarm of lemmings.

I'd go with Letheans as well. It's not an often ocassion to see one, although there are quite a few of them. Male Orions I've seen fairly enough of, especially noticed an increasing number these past few months for some reason.

I play a Lethean as well and I have seen many others. Mine wears a helmet at the moment though. I cannot remember having seen a male orion. Also Letheans, Gorn and Nausicaan do not have females (in STO) unfortunately.

My wife and I both play KDF Drow... not many of them around so I'd say they have the lowest pop on Q'onos :P

She also has a nozzie dressed in khan gear... a Nausikhan, if you will.

I have 2 klinks and 3 spare slots ready for when I finally get round to doing something with them. I'm hoping to go Pakled, Lethean and Sulibaan (if we ever get the option, and we should!) but I'm flexible and have plenty of time to think of possibilities for those slots.

I'd have to say male Orions. I do see a fair number of Letheans, and their psychic mercenary schtick is quite a strong one.

Also, slightly OT, but has anyone else noticed there seem to be a lot of female Klingons on ESD of late...? Is the B'elanna Torres fan club growing?

Check out these boards. Everyone wants to be KDF without actually being KDF. ;) Besides, Klingons are cool.

If there were female variants of the non humanoid (or kitty cat) species, you would see more of them.

Even if only in name, and perhaps with only a very slight alteration in appearance (skin tones, skin patterning, slight alteration in physical proportions etc), players would create them, simply to say they had a Female Nausicaan or Lethean or (shudder) a Female Gorn ...

Oh so true been wanting a kick-butt female Nausicaan for the longest time. :D

The only thing more rare than a male Orion is a female Orion wearing a shirt or an actual uniform.

I played a male Orion for awhile. The problem was that male Orions just don't do anything better than any other race, when it comes to traits. I also don't recall ever seeing a male Orion in any Star Trek movie or series so they are apparently rare or nonexistant there as well.

Also, if Orion males were given a more useful trait, such as the "soldier" trait or some sort of enchanced resistance to mind attacks (possibly evolved due to contact with the Orion female "seduce" trait, I'm actually trying to be serious in the justification for the concept) as an option for male Orions, I think we would see more of male Orions in game.. I would dust mine off and play him again.

Oh, from which window are you looking through? All I see from mine is Gorn chicks dressing until they see me and quickly come out and beat me up.

Less popular than the females to be sure, but ST:Enterprise did show us Orion males on screen:

    Pic #3
    Pic #4

I'd say Cryptic's Orion males in STO are fully based on these from ENT.

Female Gorn would be good, just because it makes sense (canon says nothing + novels say there are female Gorn = there are female Gorn). And the Gorn are a fun race, therefore they deserve stuff, Q.E.D. But please, if it happens, *no TRIBBLE*. It's daft enough with the Saurians... there have been laughs over that one in my fleet, I can tell you.

Until then, I'm going with Patrickngo's suggestion that the big ones are actually females and they just haven't been telling us ;)

Well, half "nekkid" Orion Slave Girls are just the 'thing' really in Star Trek ... Slightly saddening, but there you have it. For my own Orion girl at least, although she does sometimes use "the costume" mostly I have her in 'standard' Klingon Armor when playing missions, simply because it seems more appropriate really.

And realistically almost ALL races need to have their traits altered, or at the very least ALL space and ground traits should be available to ALL races, randomly. The disparity between the number of space traits vs ground traits is ridiculous.

i use a kling male, a gorn and a male orion for my kdf characters. i love the orion for the abs too :) i love the fact that the orion males are the only ones allowed to truly go shirtless the entire time! i just wish the game had more options for muscle definition graphics haha.
i would have to say that i've not seen many nausicans.... so my vote would be that they are least played. second guess would be lethean but i have seen some of them running around the first city. mostly i see klings and gorn though.

Letheans are the ones I see less, probably for cosmetic reasons.
The other species at least have some cool and unique pieces of clothing, but the lethean player characters only have the stock KDF clothes. Their signature costumes, the red glowing eyes of evil and the evil hoodie are NPC only.

If there was a Gorn Female option, and she was just the Gorn Male with lipstick and a bow on her head, I would play nothing else. Ever.

I have a slightly off-topic observation, but it does concern the topic of race/gender choice:

I've noticed a lot of femal orion with very pale, I'd even go so far as to say, tan, skin. Is there some sort of pale-orion disease that makes them look like that? Is it contagious?

They're trying to make their orions look Human.

Anyways... I'd have to say Male Orion is rare. Probably because its more fun to play a Female Orion.

i've got a male orion precisely because they're so rare

Yeah of the races out there with the right doffs and setup the letheans no matter the class are most likely the strongest ground characters in the game. Although I do have one of each class for lethean they are the least played and true that lol.

Part of this gender issue though boils down to how they dish out content too. If you heard those podcasts where geko talks about how they won't be doing any ships that aren't Klingon as in nothing for non-klingons in the kdf. Would you guys be jumping head over heels to start gearing out a male orion? lol...

If I had to guess a rough order of highest to lowest I'd go on something like...

    1. Klingon
    2. Female Orion
    3. Gorn
    4. Nausicaan
    5. Ferasan
    6. Alien
    7. Male Orion
    8. Lethean

I really do seem to see the least amount of Letheans compared to everything else. Even playing my own Lethean (who I have the most fun with on the ground), I very rarely see them.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

I see quite a few Letheans but rarely male Orions. Maybe Letheans are more popular among the European players for some reason and it depends what time you play.

I agree, we need a coat with a hood, for spookiness value. (I don't understand the absence of a coat with a hood. Forum members are constantly saying they'd buy one if there was one, so it seems odd that Cryptic don't put one in the C-Store and rake in the shekels, especially as they already have one for various NPCs so it should surely be about 10 minutes' work.) I mean, it is that time of year... maybe we'll get one as a Hallowe'en present? Pretty please? :)

I'll stick my hand up for the alien player , I made them pretty much human, sort of recycled an old Fed toon and had them defect to the KDF

But I reckon male orions are among the lowest in the population, which is odd because they have access to some unique costume parts if i recall correctly, in hindsight I wish I'd got the Male orion Diplomacy Boff instead of going with the typical Orion Female

I do have a few Letheans on my Bridge crew though, rare as they are there is something kind of Menacingly cool about their look

Though in all seriousness, while I do have the skimpy outfit for my Female Orion Engineer, I do have her wear dungarees at time, a regular female KDF duty uniform, and a bling-ey "Dress Uniform" for other times. I did not give her a bikini during the summer event and am likely not going to as it seems redundant when she already has the metal thong.
