What about the secondary deflector. I been ignoring this ship. Can you put any deflector their at least?
Like running both Nukara one one slot, CC in the other, etc.
I say this because the Dyson had 2 options, and that's it. But, if you could use any then at least that'd be something.
I have a hard time that any BOFF layout limits any ship. It's mainly the poor BOFF skill selection and functionality that limits ships.
Agreed, the Dauntless' limitation isn't in the BOff category, per se. It's just that for anyone with a Vesta, this ship is a really tough sell.
If I had never seen a Vesta, with its universal Lt. Cmdr and Ensign BOff slots, dual cannon capability, and actually useful set of 3 consoles, I wouldn't think the Dauntless a bad ship. It is (beyond the Vesta) the best combination of Tac and Sci BOffs on a science ship in the game, and if the Fleet version (when that comes out) adds a 4th Tac Console, it will be even better.
Being objective, I'd rank the Vesta and Wells a close 1-2, with the Dauntless coming 3rd. Perhaps that just isn't saying much about science vessels in general in this game, though.
Though, if you are also considering the Solanae Science Destroyers, I'd probably drop the Dauntless down another spot.
As for its looks, I still think that both the Avenger and Solanae are uglier ships. Hasn't stopped me from playing and liking either of them, though.
When it comes to playstyle, I'm planning on going heavy on Beam Overload and Torp powers for Tac, a shield and hull heal for Eng, two Intel powers for the Sci/Intel slot, and my standard set of Sci powers for the Cmdr Sci slot. Not exactly sure how I want my weapons slotted out, but it seems agile enough to warrant a DBB at the front at least.
Level a Dauntless to unlock the Starship Trait to run it on a Cruiser with DOFF'd ET or AtB...and it's funny should mention ET3.
I'm guessing this is going to happen with a lot of T6 ships: Max Mastery, slot trait, abandon ship. Though, at that point, that's a very expensive extra passive power.
I also feel bad for Klingons and Romulans. They're getting shafted. They don't even have enough T6 ships to fill out their starship trait slots.
Is there any point in the developers increasing the timer on QSD? As with current QSD you can travel very fast and cover the sector space but now for some reason you can not continue quantum slipstream travel as you enter the next sector like you use to in the past. What do you all think will be different about Dauntless' QSD?

It's like buying ships for consoles...but with a higher price tag. It's not just the Dauntless. Heh, the Starship Trait from the Phantom looks more interesting than the Phantom.
But yeah, it's something where you look at the Feds and the KDF/Roms...and well, it's just like it has been in the past - same ol', same ol'. Get that initial push and then forgotten about. They could add 9001 new factions and they'd all have a nifty first push...then join the rest because they're not Feds.

Did I already say "ever"? 'Cause, freakin' EVER!
BTW, I'm glad I quit watching Voyager before the episode with this ... thing ... aired. Because I prolly woulda thrown a brick at the TV.

Heh...thanks to you I'll now think of this every time I see a Dauntless fly by in sector space:

I've never once heard anyone claim the lack of ET3 was holding 'em back!
Except for the OP of course. That's a weak stance to take, show some builds to defend it and maybe you get some credence.

((well from the specs i can see, maybe after playing with it i may change my mind))

Didn't remember that at all. Well, that's something, at least.
