OP: Your idea is based on the belief that Cryptic want's us to continue using our current ships, rather than buy new ones.

If that was the case, why would they introduce a new Tier of ships?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Because raising the level cap without new ships would TRIBBLE off a lot of people to the point of uber super-duper ragequitting?

since we don't know what the stats are for fleet t6s it's really too early to decide how things need to be shored up. it's quite possible that fleet t6s won't get an extra console slot at all. they'll just get more hull and shields like fleet t5us get.

Without the +1 console almost no1 will get a fleet t6 ship, and fleet t6 ships is extra money for cryptic !!
    $5,00 per character/ship !!

You may be right on that..

    :)

Ironically, it's the T6 ships that are getting a lot of negative attention as well - from the aesthetics to BOff seating. Man, they are in a catch-22.

Well, my idea is based on the idea that this is a way to further monetize us using our current ships.

I'd pay more to keep my current ships than I would to fly a Tier 6 ship.

Heck, the Refit only BOffs could even just boil down to BOffs with an extra space trait (making up for the lack of a T6 trait) and a fifth space ability treated as an activatable trait.

The point there is that rather than tuning every ship for T6, Cryptic could sell us something that brings those ships up to par with T6.

Will cryptic sell us a token to make a tier 5u a tier 6?

You forgot the integrated battlecloak, pilot maneuvers, intel specialty boff post, and all those "I want the ultimate 'I WIN!!!' ship" expectations that don't happen.

Leah Brahms was a Starship design consultant in the construction of the Enterprise-D and we have a number of canon characters (Geordi, Sisko, the characters from "Eye of the Beholder", Archer's father) who played this role.

Many on the forums are wary of Tier 5U ships being left behind.

My idea would be to have a bridge officer specialist, similar to intelligence officers, who have some powers that can ONLY be used on retrofitted/upgraded ships like Tier 5U. These would be Retrofit Design Consultants, possibly, and would make the difference between Fleet Tier 5U and Tier 6 more apples and oranges rather than a clear case of one being superior.

My take to make up for the different number of bridge officer powers between 5U and 6 would be to make a Retrofit Design Consultant's Commander level ability deliberately overpowered (magnitude, short cooldown, etc.) in order to be effectively as powerful as two Intelligence bridge officer abilities.

Since it's only the commander abilities that would be QUITE this OP, it should just bring 5U up to par rather than create any otherwise substantially meaningful imbalance.

No, just no. Getting tired of this. Having numerous T5, T5U, T6 and their Fleet Counterparts, I can tell you, the difference is minimal. T5U's aren't left behind in no way shape or fashion. T5U and T6 and Fleet Versions have comparable stats. T6 has an extra Boff power, and 5th Trait and in some cases hybrid seating.....THAT'S IT! I'll give you an example....I have the Fleet Intrepid T5U and Fleet T6, stats wise identical with the T6 having a little more bonus power, 1 Boff ability.

    Quit nitpicking!

The 3rd 'T5U is inferior to T6' thread to appear in the top of the list today!

Ok, I don't have a dozen T5U and T6 ships. I just have a refit I bought wen I was new and the T5. Which I unwisely purchased instead of waiting for the T6 ships. Then I was also dumb enough to spring for the T5U upgrade. I feel so cheated by Cryptic. Why are they selling clearly weaker ship for the same price as the good ones?

    T6 has
    1. A level 5 mastery. Which to someone with a million ships isn't a big deal, but for someone who wants to keep their cost below $100 bucks for a game, it's a pretty big deal. There is an ability that comes with that, and it isn't a weak one either.
    2. Hybrid crew slots, which means Hybrid crew skills. The new skills are far more powerful than the old skills.
    3. Higher stats and numbers all around. A 5-10% difference may not seem like much at fist, but when you have tens of thousands of HP and do thousands of damage, 10% is huge.
    4. An additional console slot. This means the difference between two or three full sets of consoles. Set bonuses are a huge deal.

I paid the same price, it's not crazy to expect the same value. I'll even do cryptic one better and purchase an additional upgrade... So I can compete in T6 zones.
