I installed from steam clean a few weeks back, about three weeks. Now i have been using arc for a year, run a top of the line laptop with superb graphics and 4 gig ram. With arc, it was like watching a bad cartoon. With steam, arc uninstalled and the whole game downloaded, i have almost near perfect gameplay.

I dont like how arc made me feel alone. With steam i connected wit h new friends within hours. now if steam can install a voice comm between teams i will be quite happy. Teamspeak dont work well on my connection.

As for delta rising only needing arc. This will be like bringing out a brand new ferarri, in texas, in the middle of their winter. It will not do for them to stop it at one launcher. If they do, they are dumb a$$e$$. But what i have gathered is these guys are not dumb. So dont stress about something that is a small possibility. I will not install arc again. You will have to torture me with tribbles...

Did anybody notice this small Box right bellow the Delta Rising - Operations pack short description here?

It seems what many feared is now becoming reality. You will be forced to install Arc if you want to play STO after October 14th. :(

I think that means you can only buy the game packs through ARC at the moment, wouldn't be surprised if they eventually added them to Steam though, they have with the LoR packs. But if ARC was going mandatory we would surely have had plenty of warning about it, they wouldn't just spring it on us considering the amount people (me included) who've said we don't want to use it for one reason or another

Honestly, pulling the game from Steam would make absolutely no business sense at all because of the market share you'd lose out on. There's just a recurring problem where the connection between the Steam install server and the STO server gets fouled up because gremlins.

I'm just hoping I can get the pack through the Steam store later. It's not in the store yet in the States.

I'm sticking with Steam. I don't see them pulling out of that as not only does it expose people to STO, it also has access to the Steam exclusive Steamrunner pack.

I'd say its still a viable partnership.

It depends on who is paying who. Is steam paying PWE to carry the title or is PWE paying steam to carry it?

If in any case PWE saves some money by ditching steam and do their own thing with arc, you can rest assured it will happen at some point.

As of my last reformat 2 months ago I could not. I was forwarded to the Arc website.

I just reinstalled the game (a couple of weeks ago) using the original STO launcher on my brand new computer.
    Didn't have any problems.
Then I DL'd ARC over the weekend, to get the KHAN outfit and the game started having fits and short spurts of lag while playing.
Uninstalled ARC and the game seems to have gone back to normal.

It might just have been a coincidence with something going on with the internetz, but ARC makes me nervous now.

The way these things tend to work is the distributor, regardless of whether it's a brick-and-mortar retailer or a digital download service, takes a cut of the purchase price. With PWE's free-to-play games, that means zen and DLC bought through the Steam client. I think I read somewhere that Valve takes about a 30% cut, which is pretty low compared to, say, GameStop.

What would happen if they were to decide on whether to stop supporting Steam is they would have to decide if gaining back the retailer cut, whatever the actual number is, would make them more money than what they would lose by antagonizing people who would prefer to keep using Steam. Factor in Steam's share of the PC gaming industry. It's a huge market.

It's just simple wording. Now if ARC becomes required with delta rising or not is anyone's best guess.

That said, ARC will become required sooner or later. This has been stated more times than I can count so only new players should be shocked. From the last time I was at the office in May, Steam should still be a possibility for certain games but one or the other will be required. If since May that has changed, I don't know. All I do know is that sooner or later, ARC will become mandatory.

Holy TRIBBLE - I must've missed that one....

Guess I'll go to Steam and if/when they remove that I guess I'll be done...a shame too, thrown FAR too much money at this game....maybe it'll be a good thing in the end....

I think that just means in order to buy the Ops pack, you need to buy it through Arc, not that the entire Expansion will require Arc to install.

Just one heads-up to anyone who got a Windows 8.1 machine, specifically the HP Envy: you WILL have to make a few settings tweaks and do a driver download because STO will not run out of the box. First, you *will* have to update your nVidia GeForce driver, period, or you will not be able to log in. Second, if you like me have a no-mouse play style on your laptop, you will need to go into the Synaptics menu under your Control Panel and disable SmartSense (otherwise you cannot do trackpad and keyboard input simultaneously, which is obviously a huge problem), and at least while playing, EdgeSwipe (this makes sure Windows 8.1 menus like the Charms Bar cannot be activated using your trackpad and if you don't do this they WILL get in your way during starship maneuvers).

Speaking as someone with an HP Envy and windows 8.1 I call bs on that whole statement. I haven't had to upgrade or tweak anything to get STO to run
I would be shocked if they completely pulled the game from steam. while I'm sure they want everyone on their own platforms so they make more money without having to share a cut with valve, the volume of people who still use and prefer steam almost certainly makes them enough money to still be worth it to stay there.

Except that if they force users to use arc through steam they have violated steams tos and EULA and steam is obligated to ban them from the service

If that is true then why do Ubisoft games purchased through Steam still require Uplay to run?

LOL So much hate on one platform...

I think that the message means that it requires Star Trek Online game... which can be found on arc since the old launcher is not downloadable these days...

Plus you don't need arc to play STO, you can just update the game through the old launcher if you still have it... :D which everyone does...

If you read this: the Legacy Pack sais the same thing, but you don't need ARC to get the Legacy Pack it's rather ADLC... Auto-Downloadable Content, meaning you don't need to pay to get added to your game... http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/game-pack/detail/270-legacy-of-romulus-legacy-pack

You may have been fortunate in that case that your computer arrived before a new driver version came out; however, there is clear evidence on Microsoft.com describing identical crash symptoms for others with Win 8.1 running STO, and if you do a search for the Envy and the trackpad issues described you will locate instructions geared towards other people who had the same problem in that department. Do not try to tell me that what happened on my computer did not happen; that is an incredibly presumptuous thing of you to do.
