And that is the crux of the matter, all spending will cease until info is released.
You would be unwise to buy any Fleet, Reputation, Scam Box or Fleet level items, at this time.
It would be interesting to know if spending now falls off a cliff with this announcement?
For myself, I won't be spending even after a blog about it is released. Cryptic has a long history of saying one thing and doing another. I won't even consider it until its live and had time to settle in without changes.
Also interesting to see that no mention has been made to the repeated times it's been said that T5 ships will still be usable.
But let's not forget they failed to define "usable". The Cryptic definition of "usable" includes installing two cannon skills but no cannons on a ship, among other atrocities. The dev definition of "usable" tends to fall into the range that players would often define as "worthless garbage".
I mean everyone will want the new ships regardless, making the old ones at least monetarily worthless.
For me, I want the Xindi aquatic for the look and the lore. If it breaks 100 mil I will buy it.
It's about to hit 200 mil probably later today - so already down about 40 million in 12 hours.

Perhaps. But then players have a habit of saying something is worthless garbage simply because it's not the best.
It'll be no different from today. If you can still use a T4 ship with no real issues in PvE then it is very plausible to think you can use a T5 vessel in this expansion with no real issues either.
And let's be honest here. Even if level 60 is supposed to bring 'challenging' content with it, it'll only be a matter of time until players have caught up and the content nerfed. I really wouldn't be surprised if I could still jump into my T4 Sovvie and still perform at this new endgame with no problems.
There are a lot of people who either didn't listen to/read the Q&A after the announcment or didn't want to listen and I have seen a lot of posts on the forums where they plain ignore the post before that explains the upgrade path from T5-T6 and just go off the rails screaming and shouting about how it's unfair.
Let's look at what we know as FACTS:
-- You CAN upgrade a T5 or T5.5 ship to be competitive with a T6 ship, this means you CAN buff your T5.5 ships to pretty much the same stats as a T6 ship is and use the same lvl 14 gear which you CAN upgrade your current gear to.
-- T6 ships are a new class of ship not just another eng/sci/tac bundle and as such they ahve their own unique abilities which is where the anger seems to lie.
--Your upgraded T5.5 ships WILL NOT have any of these unique abilities what ever they may be as they are UNIQUE to T6 similar to how the Dyson ships have their own unique abilities and the Veteran ships have theirs it is NO DIFFERENT so stop freaking out.
--Anyone scared that the T6 ships will be superior to an upgraded T5.5 ship are right but why be scared? Of course they will be superior they are new that's how this whole thing works BUT! your T5.5 ships will still have pretty much the same stats but obviously not the same as with all T5.5 ships they are all different and while some are obviously better than others it doesn't stop people using them.
Should you be worried by the changes? No
Will the changes, change things? Dur.....
Will it be fun to actually have lots of new stuff to play the game for and level and explore and build? Of course
Will people stop ********? Hell no
When the expansion is released will people stop complaining? 99.9% will be happy to just play, the rest will still complain... And still play the game as always.

Sorry. I fly the Trek canon ship because I love them. If they get left behind, I think I will leave STO behind. There are other "space ship" games out there that have bigger worlds to explore and 3 or 4 new space mmos coming out pretty soon. If they squeeze the last bits of Trek out of this game, they will squeeze me out as a consumer.
"Star Trek Online is powered by the most abundant resource in the galaxy . . . Gullibility"
Currently RA T5 ships are not tecnically obsolete, they still work fine at endgame only losing a console slot and some other stats over T5.5 Fleet and Scam Box ships.
I am guessing the these new T6 ships will do the same to T5.5 as they did to the RA T5 ships.
That is what I think Cryptic means when they say that they wont be obsolete, but everyone knows that if the new T6 ships come with more console slots and/or better stats, it WILL make all current ships obsolete..
If that's the case, then it's a case of the players being right. T5 aren't competitive. The Assault Cruiser is a perfect example.
So yeah, if that's the way they're going to go, people will be livid and this will be a huge blow for the game's future.
this is what is known in the industry as 'the osborne effect'. cryptic should be fully aware of it, considering it originated in silicon valley.
Exactly. I guess there won't be a new lockbox between this and the upcoming expansion - if there would be one, it would be interesting to see how interested people would be in it, even if the contained ship would be very good.

Cryptic will ESPECIALLY leave the money making iconic CANON ships behind and will only concentrate on all the NEW CANON ships from the last few series of Star Trek on TV from 2009-2014.

I love my Gal-X because old man RIker flew one.. but it is already a step behind in the DPS only world created by Al Rivera. The idea that even AFTER I upgrade it, it will still be 2nd class in not sitting well with me. Nor do I like the idea of having to abandon a ship I love to stay completive. This is where I think the devs just don't get it. Ships in STO are not just mounts like in other games. I don't want to dump it when a new shiny comes out. Some people pick them for their look and/or sentimental value .. I dont mind the idea of T6 and like the idea of upgrades , but if a ship I love is made 2nd class even after I PAY for an upgrade just because want to sell moar ship.... i just don't see a future for me in STO.

I expect them to treat the invested players with the exact same amount of care as was demonstrated with the Patrol Escort Refit.

100% agreed.
In my opinion Cryptic would be much better advised if they would make ship upgradeable, instead of making them obsolete. People come to STO because they want to fly their favourite ships (and get disappointed, as soon as they find out that most suck).
As system that would allow us to upgrade and modify them would be much better IMO.
But of course Mr. Rivera had to decide otherwise (why am i not surprised? lol).

The existing Patrol Escort ships were left unchanged. If you wanted the Refit you bought a new ship.
Since they had so much succe$$ with that I expect them to do the exact same thing with T6
Thx, i was expecting some kind of information i missed. Sorry for that.

I assume the ones in lock boxes. Like an Aquillian Battle Cruiser.
I'd like to see a Keldon one of these days.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

Personally, I think they should be doing this with all the popular ships like the Galaxy, Prometheous, etc. Update their stats, give them a new 2410 skin option. A lot of people still want to play those ships rather than see them slide into oblivion.
If they are getting money from that, I can't see the problem for Cryptic and its less work for them and gives players the option to play their beloved older ships competitively.

Dude, i dont think you get the point. Nobody is worried.. dude, this game doesnt give me money to live. This game is not a work. The point is, new ships -> sells. We are trying to figure it out why cryptic keeps trying to take the way of power creep and gathering $ at all cost without even worrying a bit about the customers when there are a lot of ways far more profitable and customer friendly. Every step they do, is a bad step. Thats the whole point, i dont care if they are different ships or if they can be upgraded, what im worried about is, that the whole strategy is again, another wallet sucker because there was no need of make separate ships, but they did it anyways. Because that way they will have even more sells that any other way around. Every little step they do is about avoiding players feedback and doing watever they want, even if it is bad for the game.
The whole problem here are not the ships, is the way cryptic is doing things. So YES you should be worried about these changes because they keep tracking the patch to the destruction of this game.
Ow, seriuosly, if nobody will complain in this game, STO will be dead 3 years ago. Some of you will never understand this. The problem is when cryptic does not take seriously in consideration these complains since the beginning, and they keep avoiding listening to their customers. Thats the problem. And thats the only thing that never changed. People complains today, but they are ignored all the time, not just now. This is a big problem cryptic always had, and never changed. Now, since cryptic did a succesful strategy ignoring all the complains and opinions, and feedback from the players, they can perfectly avoid listening to anyone and keep doing what they are doing. Its as simple as that.

Yeah, I sort of feel the same... I haven't spent anything on this game aside from 20 bucks for a D'Kyr (Which isn't a very good ship, but looks amazing and works decently, so whatever) but I might actually quit the game entirely (I've been returning periodically for a day or two) if they completely squeeze out all canon ships.
EDIT: Off-topic, but appanrently... the D'Kyr will be getting some love finally? Hm, I may not quit after all, but I certainly never will spend another penny on this... thing if everything goes as it appears that it will.
ill say this (and I have been actively staying quiet since the announcement last night, so tempted to post, but I wanted to sleep on it lol)..
this will be the make it or break it point for a lot of people. ships seem to be what makes this game go round.. and it is a proven fact that a lot of people are pretty set in their ways about what ships they like, and want to buy and blah blah blah.. and a lot of people have spent a lot of money for what they want.
now, given that we don't even know what the t6 ship is, it is hard to jump the handle and start pointing fingers and calling them out..
but.. it is a very large possibility that cryptic is about to take all the old ships out of play.. sure, they said they have ways of making them "viable" at endgame, but.. the track record they have laid out in the last 4 and a half years shows that what they say, and what actually happens are two completely different things.
I have this sneaking suspicion that while they might be viable while you level, and first get to sixty, t5.x ships will sorely lack when it comes to the endgame content..
now looking on the other side of the coin.. (and hoping that cryptic has finally pulled their heads out of their butts) t6 ships might be just as viable as t5.x ships, but just have a different way of being played. he said they were at a cap of what they could do with builds in the existing ship infrastructure. so they had to relieve themselves of it.. and they were very adamant in the past about not making t6 ships because they didn't want to invalidate what players had already purchased... so its my belief that the t6 ships will be somewhat inline with t5.x ships.. perhaps new console types and what not, still having the same number of weapons and consoles, just utilizing them differently. its the only way to do it and keep t5.x ships viable.
further more, with these slight upgrades they are saying we can do to our purchased ships.. well, I for one do not want to buy my ship for a 3rd or 4th time. ive already bought the t4, t5, retrofit, and fleet versions of some of these ships. im not making a purchase for the same ships again.. this upgrade needs to be of ingame means only.. no tie to currencies.. maybe a token, or something when you get to level...
I like so many of my fleet mates, im hopefull that they don't mess this up... I have higher hopes than I did before for this expansion, but.. this t5.x vs t6 issue is a glaring possible downer, that can unfold the fabric of the game for me.. (as I myself am a person who only plays canon designed ships, I have no interest in the fugly cryptic designed ships, and that is not a compromise I am willing to make.. I either fly my ship, or I find another game.)
I will have to wait and see the blogs before I really start to worry.
But given Cryptic's past behaviour with the the Galaxy line "upgrade", I am very worried that existing T5-T5.5 ships will get the same treatment.
I also worry about the veteran, lockbox and fleet ships.
Lockbox, veteran and fleet ships are unique in their own ways, and giving those ships the Galaxy "upgrade" would be a huge slap in the face to their respective owners.
But as I said initially, not extremely worried yet, but worried none the less...
This could of have been avoided if Cryptic had blogs ready to go after the announcement, but no, no blogs to help alleviate our worries...
Keep in mind that T6 will only be attained by a minority of players. Kinda like T5 fleet ships. Everyone is so worried about "what if everyone gets one and I can't use my lockbox/canon/CStore/veteran ships anymore??" Really now. Do you honestly believe EVERY player will have a T6 ever? Plenty of people have lockbox ships, but they are still a minority. The only issue this could possibly cause would be in PvP, but even fewer people actually do PvP. Think about that. They aren't giving us a free T6 EVER. Do you really think there's a massive threat to the status quo going on here? It's a marketing ploy to make money off the gaming addicts, phallus collectors, and the stupid. Get over yourselves.

Wow...
That post is really rude.
We have a right to be worried given Cryptic's track record, so unless you have some info that the rest of us do not have, I would suggest that you moderate your post to be less harsh...

I think having a top of the line ship with an optimized build is a game in and of itself. For many of us, the meta game is all that is left here.
PvP ... dead!
Exploration ... eliminated to save space on installer!
PvE ... same old stuff ... extremely easy ... farmed for a thousand times!
Foundry .... poor interface and NO difficulty limits the potential ... plus rewards are subpar.
Now I can't get my meta fix by building a super awesome T6 (canon or existing ships). On top of that, they mention buffing science ships by making them more Tac oriented ... like the DSD. *facepalm* at the total failure to get science by this team!
Given what Herr Commandant Rivera has said though ... I shouldn't be surprised!
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
You forgot how we still don't know how the new crafting system fits into this expansion, or how the new items will be distributed. I'm also wondering about fleets and if those are getting a T6 option as well.
Geko said in the live Q&A that ship upgrades are not tied to the crafting system.
Geko said in the live Q&A that ship upgrades are not tied to the crafting system.
I was making reference to the crafting system vs. actually gearing the new ships. Are the new procs relevant, or will they be adding new ones? Also, will new items be added to be crafted later (i.e. ground weapons)? I really hope they had the foresight to not waste a LOT of resources on redesigning a useless crafting system into an even more useless one.

this will be the make it or break it point for a lot of people. ships seem to be what makes this game go round.. and it is a proven fact that a lot of people are pretty set in their ways about what ships they like, and want to buy and blah blah blah.. and a lot of people have spent a lot of money for what they want.
now, given that we don't even know what the t6 ship is, it is hard to jump the handle and start pointing fingers and calling them out..
but.. it is a very large possibility that cryptic is about to take all the old ships out of play.. sure, they said they have ways of making them "viable" at endgame, but.. the track record they have laid out in the last 4 and a half years shows that what they say, and what actually happens are two completely different things.
What gives Cryptic??
