No. That's not true. Of course I could make the [Over] mod not drain power. Was it convenient to make planned changes to Beam Overload in order to alleviate the [Over] issue? Yes. But game balance changes to "meta" and "non-meta" powers have been planned for months now, and we're finally getting to start making them.

Please stop repeating this (albeit hilarious-sounding "ah ha devs are so dumb") soundbite. It's flat out not true.

This is flat out not true but will forgo the majority of this feedback since Cryptic ignores community feedback. Sufficed to say I'm happy to let Cryptic dig it's own grave if that's what they want whilst not wasting time or money and enjoy the game while it lasts.

I remember Chris from STOked saying vote with your wallet if you aren't happy and that's what I'm doing. If that's the only way Cryptic will learn then so be it, money talks. The community has the power collectively to do something about it and if Cryptic gets rewarded for this attitude towards the community by more profits then expect them to keep pulling the same stunts or worse.

We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST."Death to PvP"
How many times has PvP died again now? Must be a lot.

PvP is like a zombie cat. Normally it would have nine lives, but since it is undead, its lives can be used more than once. Therefore we can kill it as many times as necessary.

Ok I can roll with that... power drain is an issue for pve and all. Still doesn't much explain the crit thing.

It would have almost been better to make overload NEVER crit and double the base dmg.

    Blasphemy!

And put all that time I spent grinding out Locators and SROs to waste? Shame on you! :(

Giving a power 100% crit chance is dumb.

I wish I needn't to sound offensive, but you're making it VERY hard when you make such statements.

i really not like those changes... no drain, always crit (can be buffed a lot) and 25% less base-dmg? hmm...
ok, i think i could live with crt (in times where i easily get to 100%+, no talk about favouring roms.... again :D...nvm...) and less base, but removing drain in times of bo doffs and whatnot.... i know, drain can be resisted/countered/..., but yet u gotta do or slot something against it. now: no downside any longer. naaah.... we sure will see uber hull-cons with s10, cause "soon creep won't matter anymore" :D

Yeah, I'm gonna be swapping over to an 'all the reflectors' build on my eng, maybe take the critD rom trait and focus a bit more on that, since he uses beam overloads on his cruiser. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't.

You kidding? PVP is the Krillin of STO. Just like in DBZAbridged it should have an "Owned" Count.. to how many times PVP Gets owned by patch changes. :D

Really? It was really planned to have an ability that's thematically putting as much power into a beam as possible not consume power? ...Really?

exactly.. don't you get it? The power gods have smiled upon all BO users. The magical power fairy has granted immunity to power consumption.

Not only did Cryptic break the laws of physics in the real world with this sloppy deployment, but tell me why it isn't "dumb" or "idiotic".... please?

No really, please tell me how it isn't?

Now I could see if there was some type of "reserve" energy weapon power tank that, while it is being filled, you would have slower power regen on weapons. When beam overload is executed, it would empty the reserve tank, but you would again be at slower weapons regen. That would at least make sense to the laws of physics, but there ain't no effin reserve weapon power tank in the game!

So.. please, again, tell me how it isn't!

    Lol, totally true though.

I'd kinda accepted it as a plot device by the time it was 18's turn to get upset about it.

But yeah, PvP changes in STO happen.... every time a new toy is released. It's not really "death", but peeps whine like it is.

why don't the power gods smile on CRF now... no power drain during it's activation.. huh? lets continue along the same physics-breaking path that we are now.

What will you do next, cryptic, have nacelles detach from the ships and be fired into other ships as torpedos, but the ship can still warp or transwarp out of the system?

Don't give them ideas. Next they'll make an eject warp core power as like a built-in super mine, that naturally has a cooldown because we have spare warp cores lying around.

Technically it is a Death.. but in a play style, not the the entire PVP its self. Not really.

Though this change will come increadibly close, in my opinion. Because all those people playing Cruisers, Sci ships, and Carriers may find them selves in the shooting gallery against the Escorts, Raiders, and Warbirds.

No one likes being killed 3x over. And the only ships that can survive 50k crits are Cruisers and Carriers, in Hull points alone. How ever now that BO auto Crits.. And after hearing of Minimax's Tests earlyer in the evening.. Not even a Carrier with maxed hull Effects and Resists will be able to resist this kind of a Beam Overload.

I swear.. sometimes cryptic makes me want to travel to cali and slap some sense into a few of them. I mean.. who comes up with this reality breaking TRIBBLE? What in the star trek universe wasn't based upon RL technology and physics, quantum theories etc..

but in cryptic's universe for every action there is NOT an equal and opposite reaction. Where is the opposite reaction to beam overload now? There isn't one? Well, that is why we call it CrypticVerse!

Some blog posts or threads explaining meta changes before they go into the game would be useful.

When you guys fixed GW and Tyken's, you got plenty of feedback. You still nerfed the GW damage (because it killed 3 freighters), but at least we got heard.

This time you just threw the BO change on us like cold water, much like when you removed the TT/ST/ET shared cooldown.

have fun, my romulan bretheren, and stock up on those [CrtD]x3 DBBs while they're still relatively cheap

I bought a Disruptor DBB MK XI [CrtD]x3 some time ago for 400k ish, hoping I would use it someday replacing the Acc x3 I'm using atm on the Scimitar.

Now the time has come. My Romulan will put to good use that dual beam bank with Alpha strikes from that thing. MUAHAHAHAHAHAH.

    :evil laugh continues:

I'm sorry, but anyone stopped for a second and thought about the basic principles of this power (Beam Overload)? What you do is "overload" a beam array with "power" so that is expels more energy and hurts your enemies a lot more than normal beam fire. I suppose it is logical for such a power to always Crit, but for it to not drain any "power"? I bet even Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave now ... not that he would endorse what this game has become over the years in the first place, but whatever...

Well, the bottom line is, even from a gameplay perspective, making BO drain no power at all is silly. Make it a triple critical hit, I don't care, but ADD some drawback to actually using it.

They're taking their business model that aims at casual players too far by introducing a spacebar/ win button. As a Vaper, I dont agree with this patch - now I'll be able to one hit everything (including seasoned vets with decent builds), making the game boring.

Cryptic, challenge me. Make me think.
