I've always found it an imersion shater when I died....I always thought my ship should be severely disabled and I'd have to do a minigame to get my ship working again, that or dedicated healers with our own abilitiy to slowly repair our ship to combat stance.
anyone else kinda wish we could just disable ships or have our ships severely disabled?
I kinda thought of it as a true to trek lore option.
I agree with this, especially in STF's or Fleet Ops. If we are brought to such a point as to where we are no longer a threat then the Enemy should either move on to next target or initiate a boarding action. In either scenario you would use the interior of your vessel more and allow for the ground ops to become more of a necessity as to where it is now... an option.
Well, for elite stuff ours ships do receive damage that must be repaired ... or not.
Theres no reason that little function can't remain... It's really just a question of getting rid of the explosion, and then add a minigame where you have to reroute power or something like that, and then just let you go on where you were.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
If disabling were to be implemented, than it would have to come before 0% hull, because just like in canon, ships have blown up before even that point.

Yea... should be locked at 1%...

This is a Star Trek game, not a Star Trek simulator.
That being said, it would be nice to have a team revive for blown-up ships (or something to that effect) in the same way you can wave a tricorder over a dead body on ground-based combat to revive them.
After all, the respawn penalty for Elite-level stuff was pitched as being a non-issue since your own team could revive you, according to Gozer.
... except for that really inconvenient truth regarding the inability to rez team members in space combat, of course.
I do that some when I have time to really RP. I play around in my ship "making repairs". Or visit a station to do so. You have to put your imagination to work on this.
However I do wish it will show battle damage. So I can come back to a station to "Fix" it. Just like how other ships come home all torn up.

I lose some immersion when almost every ship goes to 0 health and explodes. If we had another stage once we hit 0 health where we had a pool of health that would be set to 50% and start to slowly repair to 100% which would put your ship back in action. Also these "Disabled" ships would not be auto targeted or targeted by the AI if there were any non-disabled targets. Players could still target "disabled" ships and reduce there "disabled pool" of health to 0% where they would then explode. A player would not have access to any of his ships skills, abilities, consoles, etc. An ally could use repair/heal skills to increase the "disabled pool' helping put his team mate back into action. AI ships could also repair there disabled allies if a player does not destroy them.

A PvE AND a PvP suggestion that would actually work...

I had made a proposal before, that when a ship reaches 10-25% hull, it should be disabled, and continue to suffer slow degradation till it finally explodes (in which case they are dead for the entire mission), the only way to prevent this explosion is from a team hull heal of any sorts, and it must be enough to put them back into commission.
Now, it is up to the Dev's whether they would allow crew, to counter this degradation completely, or simply to slow the effect dramatically.

Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

How about we mix it up a little:
When you get to 1%, you go into emergency mode, that activates a "emergency hull" as suggested above.
Then, a minigame pops up on your screen, and you have to reroute power, make some changes from some of these http://www.oliverbrown.me.uk/tag/star-trek-online/ (not using the cats designs just seems stupid). so now you have 15 seconds to fix your ship, and get it up and running. During the 15 seconds, your "reserve hull drains slowly, to 0%).
Your freinds can help you by healing you (thats where the scis and engs come in and become very important for teamplay, since they can send better repair teams than a tac), that will fix a small percentage for you, and then when he 15 seconds have passed, you either have fixed enough to get back into the fight, or you're done for good for the rest of the mission.
Imagine how this might shake things up in infected... heck, I might even start PvPing.

The idea isn't bad, although 1% seems a bit drastic, because at that point a single sneeze would obliterate you.

Yea... that's where the secondary healthbar comes in... kinda like that romulan singularity thing, where you get a health boost.
You could also kick in two levels of healthbar... a 95% "your ship works while this is full" and the last 5% would be "Yea... better hope no one hits you while you get your disabled ship back up and running".
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Also, ships should still be able to be destroyed, albeit rarely (possibly if you're disabled while having a certain number of injuries)...but they're actually destroyed. It'd have to be more complicated than that -- imagine the rage when someone's JHAS is blown up -- but I think a general idea that you have to do something to get another ship after one is actually destroyed is a good idea.

Well for the Lockbox/fleet ships, you could have some sort of insurance... Low cost... we are talking maybe 100,000 EC, and then you could requsition a new one when you have the EC.
Being a general opposed of a "death penalty", I could live with this...
As long as you don't really lose your ship and gear, theres not really an issue.

Well, I wasn't recommending an actual perma-death to that degree, just you die during a mission, and there is no re-spawning.
After all is done, and said, than you can repair the ship back to being used, no actual real loss of ship, and gear.

Personally, I think the best solution is to do something similar to the Voth NPC ships. You are disabled for X amount of seconds. Any nearby players have that long to get to your disabled ship and use an ability (like the Voth Ward Repair Ships) in order to restore you back to 20% or so hull integrity.
If no other players get to you in time, then you explode and cause a warp core breach. You can bypass it entirely by activating Abandon Ship.
For the sake of fairness, a similar mechanic should work on the ground. If you die in ground combat, your team has X amount of seconds to initiate emergency resusitation before you die and have to respawn.
You can similarly bypass it by having some kind of 'Sacrifice' ability where you willingly die, without the option for your team to revive you.
Thus, the only thing left to decide is just how long you have to wait until you are forced to respawn.
A little popup that says 'Transport Damage Control Team' that works just like ground revives do.
At the end of the progress bar the other players' derelict ship is restored around 20% hull, 40% shields, with a random system damage debuff applied.
Like any other popup action, you can't complete it if dishing/receiving damage.
You could even make Science ships and Cruisers more desirable in doing so.
Cruisers reviving other ships restore 40% hull, 10% shields, and 20% of the original subsystem power levels. Based on the idea cruisers excel at restoring hull health.
Science ships reviving other ships restore 40% shields, 20% hull, and 10% original subsystem power levels. Based on the idea that science ships excel at restoring shield power.
Escorts reviving other ships restore 40% original subsystem power levels, 20% shields, and 10% hull. Based on the idea that Escorts have a lot of extra power, and since the escorts aren't pew-pewing, that extra power is fed into the allied ship's EPS conduits during repairs.
Other ships (like Raiders or Carriers) could have a different set of variables that reflect their purpose and utility.
and then we get people bugging out/getting kicked at the start of queued content because nobody can be bothered to res them if they die.
We already see this in queues where people simply refuse to respawn if they die.
no way i am supporting any system that forces dependence on other players.
You aren't. If you die, then you just respawn. It's just up to the players whether or not they want to get you back into action quickly or not. You aren't dependant on anything.

also, everything got destroyed in star trek. even the hero-ships.
the galaxy class was close to a warp core breech ever other episode, the connie was crashed into a planet, the defiant was tazed & kerb stomped, and voyager managed to be destroyed several times.
no way i am supporting any system that forces dependence on other players.

And they can already do it with NPC's... Who knows... that might be a prototype for a player variant.
easier than changing a major part of the game isn't it?:D
