I played many online games, in most people or play pvp or ignore it and not enter in pvp zones, but i never saw so much hate towards pvp like in STO from devs and part of pve players. We got 9 seasons dedicated to pve, sectors, episodes, battlezones etc.. But pvp players have only 3 maps, yes for years pvp'rs play same 3 space arena maps!
I guess we never will see a season dedicated to pvp improvements and balancing or new gameplay, and next 20 seasons will be also pve content.

Good idea... Except for the season dedicated to PvP...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Everything sounds good up until your selection of choice to engage, evade or negotiate. For one simple reason...

The purpose of PvP or multiplayer in any game is to DESTROY, as fast as humanly possible, the other person. It's meant to satisfy the aggressive nature in us. It's a boxing match, and the only way a boxing match ends is if the other person is knocked out or the ref calls the fight. If you think people wouldn't take advatage of the innocent among us who would dare evade or negotiate at penalty of dilithium then you are sorley mislead. And forcing those of us who don't care for nor participate in such play is...well, selfish.

To quote a famous movie..."There's no negotiation in PvP." Which is why cornered off sections of mayhem for people to endlessly kill each other is perfectly fine to me.

Now, take your idea and replace the attacking player with an NPC and remove the dil penalty for evade and you might have something.

Give me a break with PvP. If you want to do PvP you can now, no one is forbidding you. I really do not want another game to be plagued by morons who have more money than intelligence and who ruin the game for everyone else.
And opt in or opt out seems nice on paper. But why would someone even make such a system when it is clear that 90% or even more of player would simply turn it off? What would OP do then? Fly across space in a asearch for those 10%? Or for someone who forget to turn it off?

    I love this idea,

it would take gameplay for STO to a higher level. (read : not as dumb easy as it is now)

Players would actually have a use for some features already in the game (such as different ship builds), and would think more on how to make teir build. (If they are willing to actually learn the game that is...)

And this is way I am not a dev.

An Opt in out system would be added to the menu where you can tick it off if you are adverse to PvP in general.

However, I also thought that I made it clear that you can negotiate your way out of a fight, as in, use diplomacy to defuse a situation. No fighting, no paying dil. You use diplomacy to defuse or outsmart the enemy and then you can walk away, unscatched without firing a shot.

But, again, I can see how forced PvP on those that absolutely would not like it will end in bloody tears. A simple check box will can be added to opt out... at the expense of losing out on another way to earn dilithium. It would much be the same way as people are adverse to ground combat. If you don't like it, then you do not have to play it.

+1 for the Opt in system

    How would negotiation work?

If someone really wants to gank me with his P2W ship, he's not going to listen to my arguments.

And if it depends on ranks in Diplomacy, then I have to either grind that, or grind Dil, just so I can enjoy the game I want to play, without being jumped by someone out of the blue.

Were that to be implemented, my only viable option would be to abandon STO altogether, as it would have transformed into a completely different game, more akin to WoW or EvE (or Star Citizen, assuming that one even launches).
