Say something positive about season 9 and 9.5 (post release)

yreodredyreodred Member Posts: 3,527 Arc User
So let's hear it, what do you love about Season 9 and 9.5?
How did it improve STO and what would you have done different?

What can we learn from it?

(I'm deliberately not telling my opinion, because i don't want to put the tread into the wrong direction.)

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Standardizing the uniform was good and the new episode with the Star Trek actor doing the voice over was nice.

i will point out the positive stuff only. The negative stuff is omitted in this list:

    nice customizable kits
    nice reputation gear
    fleet-marks project @sb level 5
more space in inventory/bank since the crafting stuff has its own inventory
    Xindi Carrier

    Sorry, nothing comes to mind

..Oh wait, the new uniforms they thought were enough 'bread and circuses' to keep us quiet over 9.5...

A sad state affairs when the best thing you can say about a season is a clothing option.

Risa was fun. I enjoyed the hoverboards, the cruiser's cool, and the reward for completing it (and the escort) were nice.
The new uniforms (and the unlocks for people who already had them) are nice.
The freed up inventory from moving the crafty stuff to its own tab was nice.

Season 9 was "okay" had its ups and downs but the .5?

Positive, eh? Did you read the recent nerf-notes ?

Oh yeah, we get the the elite pets for the xindi carrier so that's a plus and the carrier itself from last week. The rest, well..... for the most part it was a slap in the face.

Hm... ok, it cost me A LOT to think in something positive.

    1. The Bortasqu uniforms. Thats the only thing positive of season 9. Finally i have something else to dress my ferasan. Even if the uniforms are really not what i expected and more crappy than i thought, at least i can add some details to my Ferasan.

More than that.. since no improvements were made in season 9, i am out of ideas. positive thinkings.

Exploration clusters became a foundry gate, though I have no idea why they had to destroy the RG missions in the process.

    Odyssey uniforms are great.

Xindi lockbox doesn't completely and utterly destroy canon, I could legitimately see those ships and pieces of equipment being sold/donated to Starfleet to assist in the battle against the Undine and the Iconians. And the carrier and ground weapons are really cool.

More neat mirror ships were added. Awesome.

Crafting system is something I might at least poke at a bit, unlike the last one.

I actually do like the crafting and the new UI. It had some difficulties but those are getting patched out.

At first i didn't want to craft at all but after seeing how simple it is and that it pretty much only requires me to push 1 button a day to get it done (for free!) in some weeks, it's pretty nice. I'm looking forward to the gear and the traits.

I do like the price changes - both the changes to EC and dil/marks. I think they could've changed the drop rate and just made the expensive stuff drop less as an alternative solution but this approach works too. I still get lots of cash on my alts by doing patrols etc. - it's just not millions anymore. Then again those millions became worth less by the second, the changed prices will solve that problem over time.

I even like the new lockbox, even though i'm a little disturbed by how powerful the traits are. The escort is a kumari+, which some people find upsetting, but it's available for a flat 800 lobi - for a ship with 5 forward weapons, 5 tac consoles and a solid boff layout that is pretty sweet.

Overall, while i recognize that seaons 9.5 had a little buggy start, i like the direction of most of it.

edit: Totally forgot the uniforms. Very nice, especially the kdf ones - then again, the kdf ones probably shine more because the kdf doesn't have much to pick from. Still, i like.

Crafting was a nice idea...but that's about it.
Oh wait, the oddy tac uniform variant is miraculous in that it takes a nasty horribad outfit and makes it into something I would actually use.

    That's it.
    I need a beer.

The uniform standardisation is really cool and Thomas did a great job on that.
The new uniforms that have come with it are pretty awesome as well.
The additional inventory space was much needed, and much appreciated (a separate pet space like other mmos incl. pwe mmos would still be good)
    FE was awesome.
I enjoyed Risa (though I think the prices were a bit high for the boards)
I know this splits opinion, but I really like ESD, I think it looks like the modern, high tech facility its meant to be.
Another opinion splitter, the rep and trait changes. I think the trait changes were great and the rep changes much needed for the long term.

No comment on 9.5. Though, it looks like improvements are already being made from today's patch notes.

Well... I like they creative use of the "." in 9.5...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Standardising the uniforms for Starfleet, bringing Odyssey and Bortasqu' uniforms up to scratch, increasing the immersion by about a zillion percent.

    Risa was surprisingly fun.

Free Odyssey uniforms, a decent guide with all the colour information for 2410 uniforms and another tactical kit module that allows my tac to heal himself in the many ground missions where he's not allowed to take his away team along. That's it.

I like irony, so telling us they improved the crafting and giving us such a stupid system while ruining the DOFF UI, I am a bit delighted about such an Irony.

I think that is as positive about it as you can get.

I dig the new doff recommendations. On the whole I spend less time making assignments in the new system.

The new uniforms are wonderful. The Xindi lockbox had a lot of fun additions. I like the idea of trying to make older STFs relevant through the crafting rewards system.

not to be pickie but we are taking about update season 9.5, the risa event was nothing to do with that.

personally I like the new look crafting system, I was never much bothered by crafting before as I found it quite daunting, with the new look I found it much easier to get into and providing you stick to the dil free stuff you will still get quite far, I don't really care how long it takes as time is not a factor to me and I will only probably recycle any gear that comes out of it anyway.
if I get to a point were I cant craft without spending heaps of dil I will stop there as I`m still not that bothered anyway, I have all the good gear I want.
I also like the new doff interface, its much easier to see what you need to do a mission and quicker to set up missions.
I also like the separate crafting material inventory section and the fee spaces that come with it was a boon.

there we go with risa again?

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

--Surface Tension. This was so much better than all other Cryptic missions so far that there is one fix-it fic in Ten Forward already and another apparently on the way. You don't get Trekkies filling all the little holes in your work if it's not already pretty damn good.

--New kits. Modules need to be a LOT easier to acquire, but otherwise good.

    --New uniforms, these are AWESOME.

    --Xindi stuff.

--R&D system is generally good, but crafting XP needs to be a LOT easier to come by.

You didn't read the thread title did you?

Say something positive about season 9 and 9.5 (post release)

Personally, Season 9/9.5 was pretty positive for the game, I am enjoying the Tim Russ episode arc, but 1-2 missions in 3 months is not enough, we need a season of just story missions, 40+ hours of pure new game play, not queue of the week.

ESD and the Uniform updates were nice :)

But Crafting and the new Doff UI are terrible, Crafting was not implemented right(todays update ruined it), and the doff ui is hard to navigate now, buttons are in crappy locations.

I'm positive that Cryptic has no idea what they're doing, especially when it comes to things like Crafting.

Oh, wait, that's not what you wanted, was it.

And opened my eyes to the "community" !

    New uniforms.
More Inventory Space due to R&D Materials getting their own (huge) inventory.
Stuff for that there would actually be a reason to care for crafting. (even if it may take too long to get there - finally there is actually something to do it for.)
    Aegis Set upgrade.

I don't remember, but I think there were also some bugfixes that I forget about but where neat.
