Devs: Is there any chance for an answer regarding the Tovan Khev issue?

sophlogimosophlogimo Member Posts: 6,507 Arc User
I know you guys have a really busy schedule, but could we get some update on the Tovan Khev issue?

Specifically, is it foreseeable what will be the future of Tovan Khev?
  • Will he ever be dismissable?
  • Is there any technological reason why he could not at least be renameable?
  • Could you guys possibly just add a mail terminal to Virinat, so that those who really want it can at least block all their boff slots with mailed boffs on new toons, thereby preventing Tovan to be in their roster?
  • Or is it any realistic that Tovan might be reworked into an NPC much like KDF'S Alexander/K'mtar, and that the boff we receive at the end of the tutorial might just be made a regular boff like K'Gan and Elisa Flores?

Could you give us any info on this issue, please, please, pretty please?

Thanks. :)

Tovan is head cheese D'Angelo's favorite part of STO and as such is staying the way he is, unfortunately.

But hey, at least you can craft stuff now.

Any source for this? Such an attitude would be highly unprofessional, and I cannot imagine any serious business making decisions on such grounds. So unless you have a reliable source for such a claim, I'll just dismiss it as an ungrounded rumor.

To be fair, on numerous occasions the devs opinion has mattered more than that of the playerbase.

    Is it unprofessional? Maybe.

    Is it bad? Probably.

Do I see it stopping anytime soon? Nope.

They already answered numerous time, you just weren't listening. They said Tovan is deeply involved in the Romulan storyline (appearing in cutscene, having dialogues linked to him...), and as such, removing him would make the storyline buggy (could lead to crash and whatnot).
Having the option to remove him would be too much work. As for the "I won't play the storyline again, I don't care", it doesn't work that way.

I support an extra BOFF slot for Rom, but we all know it will not happen.

Yeah, having an npc who has his own thoughts and opinions and doesn't conform to my specific demands is totally wrecking my immersion. Everyone knows the only way to play this game is to stack your crew with Orion slave girls.

they have said before since tovan is integral to the romulan missions, theres no way to get rid of him as long as you can replay missions.

this is not an "issue". for the Dev;s its "working as intended."

I do love it when some people connect wanting to dismiss Tovan to wanting a bridge crew full of bikini girls. Says a lot about them if you ask me.
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

If that's true (which I hope it isn't) then let me translate that dev language into normal English.

    Translation:

"We've decided the best way to cover up and excuse a horrible idea we put into the game is to use our laziness as an explanation as to why it will never be fixed."
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

if the option stuck about having the opportunity to flush tovan khev out of the airlock one day, he would be gone. hes taking up a chair and valuable space and valuable oxygen.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Yeah, just think on Tovan is for your away team as warbirds are for the romulan empire. He is a feature of playing the romulans. :P. Of course, i will love to see him replaced with someone else, but since it is a feature, i just learned to live with it.

I could actually get behind this. Or make it so you get Rinna and she is looking for Tovan? That way we get a choice on the matter, even if it is tiny?

None I can find anymore. It wasn't a post. It was on social media and secondhand from I think Bran?

Such an attitude would be highly unprofessional, and I cannot imagine any serious business making decisions on such grounds. So unless you have a reliable source for such a claim, I'll just dismiss it as an ungrounded rumor.

It was said by another poster above me but this kind of thing has happened a lot in this game. You usually find out about these tidbits in podcasts and stuff though. It's something I try not to let get to me. It used to. The Excelsior's state in this game is because it was one person's favorite ship in Trek, supposedly, according to a couple different podcasts. I really try not to think about it. Nothing I have any control over.

I'm losing my patience with Khev. He thinks he has a say in everything, he constantly promotes himself to first officer, and he won't leave my bridge. He belongs in the brig.

Seems reasonable, but that's not at all how they operate anymore. You'd have a lot more luck getting one of the podcasters to ask the question when they have someone on their show live.

In any case, an answer to the issue here on the forums seems like a reasonable request, doesn't it?

Just like a full year having passed with no action on this issue (which has been beaten into the ground, no sane person can claim the Devs could have possibly "just not heard about it") seems like a pretty clear "Suck it up buttercup, we're busy with other stuff" response.

He's never bothered me much, though I don't play my Romulan much. It does surprise me though that they didn't realise it would annoy people to be forced to keep him.

He did bug out for me on this one mission though. I was playing on that character over the weekend and I got this mission where I have to board a derelict Cardassian ship. He's like 'that's a bad idea, I'm coming too'. So we get on the ship and all it is is like some kind of cutscene with the characters walking around accessing consoles and talking about what's going on. But it wasn't my Captain and Khev, it was 2 of Khev and all I could do is watch it and wait for it to end.

People really blow this overboard...you'd think he takes up 5 boff slots and he is permanent in your boff seating...

And that shows how important we are on the romulan side. :P

People pay for BOff slots, and he takes up 1 permanently. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the issue.
