For some reason, probably poor coordination, I just couldn't seem to control the floater enough to comfortably make it through the courses in time, so I got frustrated and gave up.
Since the only "permanent" reward seems to be the ship from pearls gained from the course, after I did some castle building I just lost interest.
I suppose I could do the hunt once or twice. I do wish they'd expanded on the sandcastle building, that has great potential for a minigame.
Swim wear cant be used outside Risa, so the only real prize is the battle liner. I do a floater run every morning, process any birds and monkeys that are waiting, and that's pretty much it. Will get one of the DOFFs later.

i use the right click and wsad for control for floater and power board, have had no issues with it at all.
Same. I can understand people who say the powerboard is tricky to control, but the floaters are so easy, don't have a clue how anyone has any trouble with them. Even the cheep ones work fine.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.
The rental may actually work best for some folks - cause it goes so slow. They can just here, there, done - move to the next, etc, etc, etc - without worry about overshooting anything, going too fast and the like.

Am I the only one? Am I missing something?
floater is like a boat, not a car.... maneuvering in the course requires steering ahead of your intended course, and using degree of steer relative to how fast you want to turn and not where you want to turn.
So in short, don't point where you want to go, point where you want to go when you get there, as inertial is going to keep you moving after you turn in the same general direction you were traveling. When a turn is comming up, therefore, you want to start your manuever before the turn reaches you and in some cases may need to reverse your angle before reaching there to steady (similar to reversing the rudder on a boat before reaching intended course to slow turn rate to 0)..... How much compensation and lead will be relative to the type of floater you are using (basic, enhanced, superior).
My biggest problem was always going way too fast and overshooting everything. Too late for this year, next year I'll get the cheapest and slowest floater, not use the tribble, etc.
Too late for me for this year. No way can I get in 25 days now (scheduled commitments.)
I lost interest in Risa before even going there this Summer. The very notion of a ship that actually looks like a real ship (meant for water) is so ludicrous to me, I couldn't bring myself to even try.
I never had interest on Risa. The only thing i do , sometimes is to grab some lohnunat favors hunting horgans and sometimes, to do the flying high to grab some pearls. But i am not going to pick any ship im just saving em just in case the next year cryptic do something better about the ships than this year.. (i dont have hopes, but just in case..) so i rarely log 30-60 minutes a day in Risa. I will use the favors to save em , i dunno why, maybe to sell em in the exchange after the event is over, or maybe in a future i will get bored and i buy a swimsuit.. more than that.. and of course , the eggs that i will use to raise birds and trade em for marks.
And thats all.
I dont even bother to do any dance event, or hoverboard race, or anything else. Not even the castles.. wat a waste of time, if at least the rewards doing that were bigger.. pff.
login, get my daily 40 pearl run done for 2 toons, one getting the corvette other the liner. Then once they are done run the entire of my 9 characters through twice, get my two ships for all toons then off risa.
MIGHT keep one toon there to get favors for some more bikinis, but other than that pretty much done with risa.
Like the other events, just got BORING.

It must be not so boring for you if you have all that trouble in all your characters.. lol, maybe several hours a day in Risa hugh?
last time i had any serious time on risa was about a tripped up seaman pun, wookie lice as well as something about a cap and those lice and being incredibly cheeky almost to being annoying..
fun times on the risa chat.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I actually haven't been to Risa since the event started. The ship doesn't interest me, and since I can't use the outfits outside the zone, it's just a waste of time in my book.

I didn't have an interest in them at all because this is Star Trek, not DOA Beach Volleyball.
this game stop being star trek a long long long time ago if it ever was it is only trek in name and skin only! everything else is a carnival Park facebook game

Nope 10 minutes. If i don't get bathing suits for all, not too worried. Far as the ships, 10 minutes a day.

Not spending quite as much time on Risa as earlier in the Festival, but still having a blast.
Of course I strongly suspect that's due in large part to my criteria being "am I having fun" and not "am I meeting the minimum necessary virtual stuff iincome per hour to consider this use of time acceptable." It's a waste of time in all practical sense, no matter how you slice it- that's why they call STO a game. The only tradeoff is "acceptable amusement level" and I find said level quite acceptable.
Got plenty of time left to futz around amusing myself and still ultimately have all 10 characters outfitted with beach wear, swimsuit, floaters, and powerboards. (And maybe stash some Favors for those insane-price first few days next year. )
Some of the Summer and Winter Events are fun. They make a nice diversion for a bit. But after working my tail off for the Chel Grett, I decided to leave acquiring the ship out of the Event when I do participate.

Indeed, I have fun with Risa, socialize, dance with other characters, meet new people. But then, I treat STO like a fun game and past-time, and not a job. lol. I already have a job... I come to STO to enjoy myself.
I hadn't lost interest at all. I got several items from the event on what I wanted. However my time is about to come to head out to finish my other projects. Not due to lack of interest, its due to I got what I wanted. I'm still hanging around to get my monkey to adult. And to get a few more favors for next year.

I'm with you on the cruiser... I'm actually doing some pearl runs for next year's ship. Absolutely zero interest in that ship which is a first for me since I have all the others.
To the OP, I'm surprised you're having troubles with the floaters. Use a combo of the arrows and space bar key and it should be a breeze. I've got my mains and alts each a swim suit. Going for wetsuits for my two mains. Going for more outfits to sell for EC and then doing the monkey/bird farming. Those monkeys are so ugly it will be easy to turn them over for marks! But I hear you on getting burned out. I wish they had some mini missions or something on Risa like New Romulus... Because otherwise the grinding for the swimwear is pointless. I'd LOVE to have a reason to come back to Risa after the summer event for some mission or daily based play.
ummm Pulse wave cannon. I would love to have that on a ship. Course it would be no where near as powerful as it should be. Otherwise in the right position you could one shot and win Hive elite.
Im getting the 1000 pearls on three characters, unlocking the cruiser this year, I got the Corvete last year and with 2000 pearls left, I am good for 2 more years.
Now let them add in the discount to the winter event ships and everything will be perfect!

I'm running 4 toons this year.... my plans for pearls i this.... Get 1000 on each toon, buy on first to hit 1000 (which will be my rom as she had more left over from last year), then get it at discount on other 4..... then run all toons again till either (1) they are at ~1000) or teh event ends (with rom, as likely she won't make up the 1000 lost), which with discounting will just make the ship easer to grinf for next year, as I can get it on day 1 on all toons, and just need to do minor grining on 3, and refill the ~1000 on one.

Any other ideas to "slow down"?

Starblazers/Space Battleship Yamato rocked..... and if they put a wave motion gun on the risian cruiser I'd be all over it.
