Risa's Not For The KDF

If you've been to Risa you may have noticed a lack of KDF players enjoying the Summer Event. I know we are a smaller faction but that doesn't account for the low numers of KDF players on Risa. if you're lucky you may spot a Gorn here and KDF aligned Romulan there but most zones are empty of KDF players. I'm thinking most folks who have toons on both sides are only beaming in on the Fed characters.

The reason for this is simple, there's nothing on Risa a KDF character would enjoy doing. I beamed down with my Orion to get a bird egg and participated in a few of the events. It felt utterly ridiculous for my Orion to be building sand castles, site-seeing, hunting for statues, or powerboard racing. I mean come on! On Quo'Nos we have pit fights! Where's the contests of strength and valor that would appeal to the KDF?

How about powerboard jousting now that would be fun! Or let us be able to get diving equipment and a speargun so we can hunt dangerous aquatic life. And allow us to hunt dangerous wildlife on land as well. What about an old fashioned arm wrestling contest or hand to hand bout? I would even go for a plain ole fishing competition.

It just seems to me Risa and the Summer event are geared around the blue side. I can't see a Klingon having a blast of a time buidling sandcastles unless of course they had consumed enough bloodwine to lose their minds.

What do you think would be a good event for the KDF?

I am not sure that you are right about the reason for the lack of KDF but Powerrboard Jousting sounds AWESOME.

Also... Building Sand Forts and attacking each other from them would have been fun.

I've seen plenty of kdf on risa, particularly gorn and orians. Though to be fair orians and gorn make up the majority of the kdf players I see in general.
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

While people are on the topic of KDF players on Risa, I'm curious about something. I've noticed that KDF players seem to have two unique options in the form of the spiky fort lookin' thing and the tower-monument-thing with the red emblem on it that a bunch of Romulans (including Fed aligned ones) are making for some buggy reason.

Do you guys just have two or what? I'm confused.

Ok sex statues are appropriate content but you have to admit the rest is somewhat out of character for the KDF.

Orions are from a hedonistic society... but you seem to imply that they don't like to "have fun"? :P

I like the sand fort idea and it may be there are more KDF player characters there, I'm probably just not noticing them or confusing them with Npc's.

I don't see building sandcastles as their idea of a great time. Hedonistic yes but they are also aggressive and warlike so I picture more manly contests for fun.

The only problems I have with Risa are the hunt timers being off by 1 minute and the Pay2Win of the Powerboard Races. I have a minor gripe that there aren't enough buckets for the castle building.

Other than that, I don't have issue with the basic idea of the Summer Event on Risa. Pretty much all my Fed & KDF toons are there now. It's something different, and in general, it's only a place that most players visit maybe once or twice a year, if even that.

Also remember that some of the numbers of KDF may be skewed to look less. Joined Trills are pretty popular race. Some of those may be KDF, for example, but everyone sees a Joined Trill and they assume "Fed." I have 2 Joined Trills in the KDF, one ENG and one SCI. If they're not wearing faction specific uniform items or weapons, you wouldn't know they were KDF. Esp. when everyone is running around in Risa the way they are.

Alien race also hides the numbers even more.

But I see many Klingon and Gorn player character races there. Esp. Gorn.

Then there's Orion females, which we know are out there in massive numbers. They're well represented.

The other mission assumption is that most of this other stuff IS appropriate for the other factions? A Starfleet Captain building sandcastles? A Romulan Commander in a surfing contest? If anything, a Klingon getting drunk and dancing rowdy just means its Tuesday.

That's true it seems a bit kiddish for all factions. I'm hoping some feedback will prompt them to add some different stuff, not holding my breathe though. It pains me to see all that water out there and not being able to fish it.

Are you kidding me?? One of the funniest moments I've seen yet was a 12 foot Gorn dancing next to me the other day! I was laughing so hard, I kept missing the calls! Plenty of KDF from what I've seen.

You'd enjoy it even more if they'd add the Risian Monkey fights. We could watch the little buggers tear each other apart while we bet on the out come. JK, but it would be cool to hunt some dangerous critter. The really brave ones could use their bat'leths.

I did see a Gorn and yes he was dancing and yes I laughed till it hurt. As I mentioned above I maybe over looking some of the KDF players.

Aggressive? not more so than many other space faring powers.
    Warlike? Definitely not.

And why wouldn't they build sandcastles? Its an artform like any other, and Orions definitely have an appreciation for art.

While I agree that KDF Klingons are not well represented on Risa, the Orions are. And I also see the occasional Gorn as well.

As to the comments earlier, I do agree that Orions would fit in on Risa. And both the tropical island and statues reminds me quite a bit of Chechu-do (Jeju Island in Korea).

I don't see many space faring races in the Federation raiding or pirating their neighbors which is highly aggressive behavior. Of course they don't pirate or raid all the time, they do trade with other races as well. But so too did the Vikings which the Orions share some traits with. And pirating and raiding is warlike, They're not called Orion "Pirates" for nothing. Your right they would enjoy beauty but they'd also be interested in more dangerous or brutal contests than what we have on Risa. A society that raids, pirates, and takes slaves normally aren't the type who like playing patty-cake in the sand.

I WAS in the process of moving my KDF alts to Risa, but the mindnumbing grind for Eggs and Tags for Marks made me abandon my plans...they're heading back to Ganalda.
I'm in the process of getting my Fed alts back to K7 for the same reason.
I was looking forward to getting them all some Marks this Summer.

    C'est la vie I guess.
Hopefully the Devs will leave the Winter Event alone.

Well, for myself, I only desire to do the Summer Event on my main toon in the first place. The rest of my toons I will simply wait and get the new ship (already picked up the Corvette on everyone) once my main character gets it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

I agree with the OP, in that there aren't a lot of Klingons on Risa ... In general though the KDF Faction seems well represented in the form of Orion's and of course the ubiquitous "Gorn in Hot Pink Swim Trunks"

Plus many Rom-Klinks and the aforementioned Joined Trill. (and on the subject of Trill, WHY Cryptic is their no "Black" colour option? Because ya know ... Dax!)

In fact it was the scarcity of Klingons that prompted me to take my newest Klingon there, even though she's only level 13 and still has a lot of other stuff to do, I just wanted to see a Klingon on Risa ...

And, well, let me just say, she does look good in her swim suit, and I like the fact that the Devs actually took the time to make "Bikini Body" textures for certain species (though Remans look a bit weird, because it doesn't continue onto their hands and feet)

However, I too would have liked to see maybe a few more events, and maybe something for the Klingons to "get their teeth into". Maybe a "Critter Hunt"? As there is a lot of vermin running around, and that would be a good fun little "sport" for Klingons ... Rock Climbing perhaps? Even something like Wood Chopping (for the fire pits) or Caber Tossing? ...

Cryptic could have done soooo much better ...

Not sure how the Klingon have anything to do with the lack of KDF players. I spent my whole time there as a Ferasan. Honestly, if people aren't going to Risa on a KDF because it's not something they think a KDF would do, well... they are cheating themselves out of an activity.

I'm having fun there. Getting accolades, newbs asking me "How do you play a 10-foot-tall reptile?" people dancing with a Gorn, smashing sandcastles. The usual stuff.

I will be getting a KDF powerboard soon, so I'll be able to race competitively.

As for why a member of the KDF would be there? Reconnaissance. Seeing how your enemy behaves when not on duty can yield valuable information.
