It's not. He or she can spend the time getting dilithium from the Voth zone or any dilithium grinding tactics and start a fleet.
Yup. You can absolutely do that. In additon to 15 minutes once every other day to slot a daily. It's just so much easier and takes so much less time and resources.
Get it to tier 2 shipyard and get weapons that make a significant difference.
You make this point in a vaccuum, as if people aren't already doing that AND the old grinds. At this point, the new grind is easier and takes less time and gives them MORE time to chase other things like fleet stuff.
This really has nothing to do with the reputation traits. And everything to do with the changes to the reputation costs. It's been made more casual friendly. Making it "worth" it simply because the resource investment is a lot easier on players.
Again, he or she should not waste the time period.
It's not a waste of time. It costs less time, less money, less of everything. To get to the end of a grind that offers costumes, and a big mark and dilithium boost for some, a boff for others, and so on and so forth.
It's been changed from an intense mountain you have to climb ... to a fire and forget daily mission ala a browser game.
It's not. He or she can spend the time getting dilithium from the Voth zone or any dilithium grinding tactics and start a fleet. Get it to tier 2 shipyard and get weapons that make a significant difference. Frankly, since its' limited to 4/4/4 and abilities would not use it. Why grind something when eventually it will make 0% difference once they put in more reputation systems in game content?
Again, he or she should not waste the time period. Spend 15/20 grindng dilithium from the Voth Zone, ISE, Crystalline, and Nimbus for a personal fleet.
Or perhaps the player can choose to have fun in their own way. That's why I'm doing the Undine reps on all 7 of my toons - I like fighting them (they're difficult foes, and I think they are villains), and I like getting rep marks, rep toys, and some new passives.
Not everyone needs to grind dilithium for a fleet, y'know.
the main reasons I went to t5 in all reps was partly the traits but mainly the big dilithium payouts.
I guess the traits arnt so appealing now but I guess the more you have in your arsenal the better even though you can only use a limited amount at once.
but still the dilithium payouts you cannot turn your nose up at.
Nukara 32,000
omega 9000
dyson 32,000
romulan 32,000
total 105,000 dilithium
not sure what 8472 will pay out but I will guess another 32k
its also something else to play for and its mostly fun, theres no rush to do them and you can always wait till they do a multiple choice reward like the birds at risa or epohh in the winter event.
plus you only have to do it fully once then your other toons will complete in half the time with double points.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I offered my personal view, my personal view is. No. It's not worth it.
If someone wants to do it for little shiny gears, outfit choices, and a variety of a light show.. Go for it.

32,000 really?
Grind 3 characters in one day two days.
48,000 dilithium in two days and a hell of a lot EC from saling dropped gear.
It is super easy now. I wasn't even going to bother with my Alts but I will for a couple. with the bonus for alts you only need ~600 rep marks and 20 days. Double that for an initial character. For ISE the first time you get 130/day.
48,000 dilithium in two days and a hell of a lot EC from saling dropped gear.
4 days have 96,000 dilithium!
You can do ALL of this ... and for a low intensity, 15 minutes per day or per 2 days due to the increased marks payout, you can also snag the easy dil and bonuses from the new rep system.
It's just that easy now. There's so much less effort required. Do a daily every OTHER day. Along with all of the other things you're doing.
That's why it's worth it. Because of how easy it is now.

Hmmmm. Way go through life doing it the easy route??? I don't understand that type of thinking.
Man quit using the damn word grind and is it worth it? Its a game if you are not having fun PLAYING then no its not worth it its not a job if it fun then yes its worth it.
Hmmmm. Way go through life doing it the easy route??? I don't understand that type of thinking.
I do things because it's easy.
Really???
I can almost guarantee that if given the same task and standard, a smart, lazy person will win ever ytime for the dumb person doing it the hard way or the smart person doing it the hard way.
I play a video game. For fun. In my leisure time. So yeah, I'll do things that are easier. Because I'm doing these things in my relaxing time.
I hope a lot of others I play this game with also enjoy the leisure activity. I mean, the words "play" and "game" are involved here.
Sure...but if those "easier" things are less enjoyable for you, do you still do them?
There's nothing wrong with doing something easy if you enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with doing something difficult if you enjoy it.
If you're doing something because it's easy, but you hate doing it...well, I don't want to tell anyone how they should be playing a game, but that seems unhealthy to me.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
you missed the most important reason I did it - it was fun. well mostly.
Yeah, I really did seem to go off in the direction I went and forgot about that part. That's on me. I really did make an assumption here (insert when you assume joke here). I thought the play the game because it's fun part was kind of inherent.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
I can't say anything is worth grinding for myself.
Thankfully this new system means I don't have to anymore. So look at what traits and gear would benefit you most and work towards that. Then once you have them just keep reps plodding along in the background as you play.
Sure...but if those "easier" things are less enjoyable for you, do you still do them?
This is a Star Trek video game. I enjoy playing Star Trek. I'm not being snarky here. I just realized I may have to really strip parts of what I'm saying down to the very core.
At the end of the day, I get home from work, I sit at my computer and log into a video game that is all Star Trek centric. I like that. I really do. I find the new costs and changes in the reputation system easy enough to incorporate in something I do.
And I do like a lot of the missions. The new Undine missions I've been enjoying so far. The Dyson missions, I like. More than just the Voth Ground Zone. I like Storming the Spire and the Breach. I'll fly around the zone doing some of the missions and searching for the rare DOFF missions.
Which drives my overall point here. The changes made to the rep system (not the traits thing, the changes to the payouts and what not) have the overall effect of making the rep "grind" much more casual. So for someone who wants to log in, and do something Trek-related and just kick back and have fun doing whatever, this system is far more compatible with that playstyle.

Hmm. That's you.
I am going try to tackle that ground/space combat mission episode in 5 mins on Elite.
So, far I can run through the ships like nothing.
I'm just trying to figure out the boss which is the longest but my away team disposed of that Undine almost effortlessly the last time.
Actually, I want that mission harder now. The cube should be a tactical cube and make all the borg active instead of a few.

It's not efficient.
If I were a DOFF I'd not have that as a trait.
I would have Congenial.
That's style of play is your style but from what I read. Anybody who plays different you attack or try to make them feel irrelevant.. centersolace, does the same thing.
It seems if someone opposite voices their thought, you and centersolace jumps on them attacking, bullying, and insulting whoever think otherwise.

Undine Assault on Elite has no tactical cubes whatsoever. But is harder. Oh and reports are coming in that the Breach Elite was tweaked to be much more difficult.
I'd say give that a try. At this point in your STO career you can't possibly need anything from the Omega Rep anyways.
(begin quote)
Are reps worth grinding to tier 5?
(end quote)
They used to be, imho. The Season 9 reboot and reset on Rep abilities may (likely) change that. Seriously, though, what else are you going to do in STO after you hit level cap of 50?

I generally agree with you - my post was directed at you, but not really at you, per se. I was just trying to clarify your comments on doing easy content by pointing out that only makes sense if you enjoy said content.
Clearly, you do, which is awesome.
Equally clearly, there are others who are doing easy content which they hate, which is...not awesome. Crazy, even.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
They are not. Only if you want something specific from Tier 5 or the reputation ability.
I admit I only did them all on one char -- my VA main I've had since BETA. I didn't do them right away, though. They were only there when I had nothing else to do. So I literally only did them when I was bored and/or had extra EC/DIL to throw away on useless ****. In general, I don't care about it. NONE of my other chars have a single rep done, and I still lean away from it.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

I love space exploration TOS and TNG, but i love the dark side of Ds9 - http://blip.tv/sf-debris-opinionated-reviews/ds9-the-siege-of-ar-558-review-4435480 That's how I play.

read my edit.
you also get drops you can sell and dilithium from most of the rep missions like stf`s and dyson for example in case you didn't notice.
and rom rep you can do in no time flat just 1-2 minutes a day chasing epohh.

I might be mistaken, I missed your point after you said you did the rep for passive skills.
