That looks like Half Resolution is on for some reason. If you can find the option in the new graphics settings, see if it's been turned on by the new defaulting feature.

Oops didn't see these posts before. This fixed it. I had some stuttering at half-res that seemed to go away after taking off cinematic depth of field, if that helps anyone.

Same problem here, though judging by the number of comments in here it seems it may be an unlucky few ... ?

Maxed everything and restarted. No better.

hi all i have been worried re the update as it crashes out after a few minutes , coming up with internal errors, out of memory and other stuff. Is it indeed an issue as i also checked the tribble test and it was awful.

I have been with sto since beta test 4 years ago and would hate to leave but as already atated the graphics are terrible.

Ok, I finally figured it out. Under the video setting in options there is slider bar for resolution that defaults to something like 50% or something like that. Slide that all the way to full. Then under graphics select default graphics. That should do it for you. You can then tweak a bit better graphics (don't try to get to much, mine went to one bar and I was able to get two) on the graphics page. Looks better than season 8 now.

I appreciate you trying to offer a solution. Unfortunately it does not work for me. 8-bit graphics is an excellent description of the problem.

If you have an Nvidia GPU you need to remove the fixed profile for STO. To do so download nvidia inspector and delete the "Star Trek Online" profile.

Did you try "/renderscale 1" in chat? I think it's supposed to do the same thing as the slider but you could try that anyway. Try to slide the other bars under the graphics tab to full. Also, turning off cinematic depth of field has helped some. What are your specs btw?

I have done all that but which seemed to fix it, but it just goes wonky on it's own for no apparent reason and at random.

I was doing a mission today and the graphics went down hill, I logged out to see if that would solve it and this is what my character selection screen looks like:

I had something like that happen as well. All the ship textures vanished and all of the ships shifted to a solid white color. My dual heavy cannon shots turned into small yellow squares and beam array shots looked like they were drawn with Microsoft Paint '98. The map "background" also shifted from solid black, to solid white, to a teal/black "mess" at what appeared to be random intervals.

Classic signs of the S8 missing textures bug. This last season update seems to have aggravated it. Try typing the following into your chatbox:
    /tex_memory_unload_threshold 200000000

You may have to tweak the number in that command. Lower means that the textures will load more often, but may look slightly worse. They know about the bug and have a fix coming. That command was given to us from the dev who found it. You have to type that command in every time you relaunch STO. It doesn't save if you exit the game.

Doesn't help. I log in everything is fine then at random the graphics go funky. For example I logged in a little while ago, everything was fine, until I entered the sphere and then this happened:

    http://tinypic.com/r/23idjr8/8

As you can see the map is black, and there is a glowing line at the supply depot in the distance. It was fine earlier on.

This has only been happening to me since S9, before that everything was fine. I have to quite the game to fix it.

EDIT: Same place after an exit and restarting the game:
    http://tinypic.com/r/2ex4qqc/8

Then after playing a couple of missions traveling to a couple of sectors and returning to ESD and this is how my bank looks as well:
    http://tinypic.com/r/2m5gmww/8
Whereas when I logged on it was fine.

I really hope they get this sorted before the dil weekend or I can see all hell breaking lose more than it is now,

Did you try lowering the command number? I have to use 100000000 to get it to work. 200000000 does nothing for me.

    I'll give it a go.

What I don't understand though is why it happens randomly like this. Log in everything is fine then things go wonky that I had no problem with. I could understand if it was a constant thing.

I know you said there is a fix on the way I just hope it is before the dil weekend or I dread to think what the forum will be like.

I don't know the specifics on how it happens, but it's something with how the game clients are reloading textures, or rather, not loading them properly. If you want, here's the original thread we've been keeping up since S8:

It looks to me like the bump mapping and/or normal mapping got ****ed up somehow.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm playing on a Mac, and am not a techie. Will this work on my platform?

I have the same problem, graphical problems after season 9 updates, I hope this gets fixed soon. I know it isn't my laptop considering its fairly new and powerful with a good graphics card.

I hope that they don't think that chat commands constitute a fix. We already have way too many long ignored bugs going on in this game.

found this on someone elses forum a few months ago after someone messed with my graphics and it worked for me. just remember the space after renderscale.

It's the same as moving the Renderscale slider in the options to 1.00, what it means is it will divide your resolution by 1, which is full resolution. The command is just a quicker way to do that than opening up options and moving the slider.

I am having an odd issue since Season 9 started, particularly after the latest maintenance. When I am playing STO, and ONLY when I am playing STO, I am getting frequent (up to several times a minute) "chirps" from my computer that sounds like a fan or the hard drive being addressed, and the graphics will freeze for a moment then stutter onward. This is also happening in parallel with occasional short bursts of "rubberband" lag, which may or may not be connected. The game is still mostly playable, but I am genuinely concerned about what this may be doing to my computer since it's actually making some kind of mechanical noise associated with it.

Intel i7-3770, nVidia GTX-660Ti video, 16Gb RAM, drivers are up to date. System power definitely isn't the problem.

As I said, this only happens in STO, which makes me think it's NOT a real hardware issue, but something in the game itself. I don't have this issue in other games or when doing other things.

    Ideas?

As we said, right now STO graphic performance is really messed up and its possibly that the game is forcing your graphic card too much, or the cpu, who knows. I can tell , that this is my case, i am not in danger, but i checked that my cpu is using more resources (about 10-15% more) than before. My guess is , the videocard is in the same situation, since i can hear the fans at full throttle..

Depending on the TDP of the card and cpu for each persons build and the cooling they are running at a certain temperature point their cards and cpu will downclock automatically to stop it from over heating and this can cause FPS to drop.

And thats exactly what i said.. (but with other words lol).

Some cards have a higher threshold than other ones. But im pretty sure that the fault is from STO, not the videocard...

heh.. was at work right after a coffee so brain was in tech typing mode, but yes after the main sto graphics updates it is pushing peoples systems more than it should.

I just want the old season 8 graphics back as an option. I've put my resolution up to full and because my pc is low end a radeon 512mb graphics with a dual core processor and 8 gig ram,

I never had these graphics and sound errors before season 9, now the lag has got me blown up too many times
