Post #47 in this thread. Tacofangs said the work for Club 47 hasn't started yet as they have some other things to do first. It won't come with season 9 launch, but shouldn't be too long after.
taco has a week left to get it designed, built, internally tested for minimum and then put on beta for some feedback and then released with the rest of it, season 9 launch is the 22nd of this month. thats the problem with doing things on the fly and at the last moment, i know because i do it all the time and half of the thing you want fall through because you either get at it too late or just forget it all with everything else going on. if club 47 turns into purgatory from on the citadel in ME, then clearly club 47 was just a rush job with no thought to it. you see i had a problem with this new ESD, it should of stayed in testing for a little longer.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

One of the new decks, accessible by turbolift, while more like a lounge, really, could certainly serve as a makeshift club.
Anyway, yep, would be nice to have one; but the rest looks pretty finished to me, so why not?
Hmm ami I the only one affraid we will spend more time running around SD than doing those things we came to do? I mean currently you have everything more or less at one place and it takes only a fes seconds to get from the exchange to the bank to the equipment seller. As I see it now, it will take more time and travelling around.
No. The new ESD has Bank and Mail Terminals in every corner now, including the exchange room. And the vendors are just next door. If anything you'll do less running.
Well most of my comment about ESD are in the Tribble feedback thread; however Taco, I just thought I'd mention that I hope you guys keep some of those Whitebox designs that weren't used kicking around, as I think they could make some really cool other locations! This one in particular I think would go quite well on a planet for a social zone (Andoria still needs a revamp...): http://images-cdn.perfectworld.com/arc/16/16/1616251125c5ba4af61403ce265fc8ea1397169893.jpg

The new ESD is actually of comparable size to the old one, it just has a different (better) layout. Things you use on a regular basis (tailor, vendors, exchange, bank, mail, shipyard) are now much closer together. Not to mention that there are in fact bank and mail terminals dotted all around the new interior.
Here is a picture Taco uploaded a while back to show the size comparison of the old and new interior.

Yeah, the new ESD is much more compact and enjoyable than the original. It was a hassle either running around ESD to get to the bank/exchange or trying to figure my way through that center portion and making sure I went the right way. This one is a lot more friendly to those just trying to find what they're looking for.
Nice commentary on how you got there every step of the way. I noticed one thing missing about input though, we had You and Your Team, where was the end user input other than the cries of "we dont want to run around" on the forum. You know us the people that will inhabit the place ?
Nice to see a 20th/21st century shopping mall served as inspiration. I understand you have to go through a creative process but you missed out the most important part of that process !
Still nice work I suppose and a revamp was needed, I might even go there one day to take a look, who knows.

Current ESD has a horizontal design.
New ESD has a vertical design. As you walk through the new spacedock, you get the sense that it will be used for roleplaying. I love how everything is interactive and responsive. Cryptic did a very good job on the environment. New ESD has a lot of spaces for hiding, sitting, and socializing.
I can visualize player based storytelling, which focuses on Starfleet politics, cadet relationships, enemy invasions, and fleet personnel drama.
MY first reaction....
"great, my foundry mission I have published which uses a current location in ESD is going to break!:("
All Foundry doors have been maintained in one way or another, and old ESD is still available in foundry, any "breakage" should be limited to descriptive text you placed in the mission.

Sine in the old ESD you actually have to move and in the new ESD you don't, I'm not sure how it's going to require more traveling around.
It really does look great but is this really the best use of what Cryptic says is limited resources?
I mean wouldn't it had been better to do a new stf or maybe some pvp maps? STO hasn't been lacking on having some great scenery in it but it has been lacking in new content. I am aware that there is more content coming out in season 9 but really do think that more could of came out and instead resources were devoted to re doing esd.

All UGC Objects, Contacts, and Doors have been ported over. They'll be in new places, and will look different, but they *should* all still be there, and still work.

Travel times have largely been reduced. The Bank and Mail are both consoles that are scattered around. You don't have to run around things to get to where you want to go. For the most part, everything is a straight shot from one place to another, and while the space feels larger, it's floorplan is slightly smaller than before.

Season 9 had some very design heavy stuff going on. So there was actually less need for the environment team on a lot of it. ESD was something we've wanted to do for a long time, to improve both the new player experience, and the old player experience. Since ESD's redesign was mostly on the Environment team, it meant the designers could focus on that other stuff, and we still had something to do.
Well I am glad it's not taking away from anything and glad to see you had something to keep you busy:)
It's really does look good so kudos on that. If your looking for projects to work on may I suggest giving more of the lockbox ships interiors beyond a bridge. I would love to be able to travel about a Galor or many of the other lockbox ships.

Did you guys consider putting a mailbox or exchange console on the catwalk?
I am hoping that Cryptic will get beyond the grind mechanic.
tacofangs one more question if you could change k7 and or starbase 39 which one would you choose to do and after redoing esd ,do you have any idea what you would like to do with them that you couldnt do to esd or poss didnt have time to do with esd also i know you are working on club 47 do you plan on adding a stateroom and if not do you think of adding one down in one of the spare buildings in starfleet academy????

The correct answer, of course, is to forget about K7 and SB39 and do DS9 instead.
Also, MY EYES!!!!!
I believe tacofangs has said that the stateroom is gone for now, with no plans for its return, but he can correct me if I'm wrong.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.

forget Ds9 ... Ds9 Is Not Bad K7 And Sb39 Look As If They Had Been Thrown Together Fast . Now That They Have The Tech And Knowledge They Should Do Those First And Leave Ds9 For An Expansion Or Season When They Poss Add Cardassian Playable Faction
I just saw this. Tacofangs, you have made another glorious, conquering success. Hail to the taco! And its fangs!
I approve of every inch of the new ESD. Furthermore, I would like to congratulate Tacofangs on creating an ESD so good, I can't actually complain about any of the aesthetics at all.
Excellent job, Tacofangs. You should be lead dev, and your team all need hefty raises.
(as Grand Vizier worffan101)
Also, when you have the chance, could you please send me the completed versions of the Pleasure Palace Survey forms that I sent you? I need to know how your servants, concubines, and palace are suiting you. As Grand Vizier to Sovereign Ba'al, and a huge fan of your work, your comfort and happiness are my responsibility. And I kind of need the paperwork so that I know how much funding I need to creatively reallocate for you and how much blatant nepotism I still need to fill my monthly quota.

Hail Ba'al!
Why is it that I read this Ba'al nonsense all over the place the last few days? :P
Why is it that I read this Ba'al nonsense all over the place the last few days? :P
It's...a joke.
Basically, I started this joke on one of upper4dscout's alien conspiracy threads. The basic "plot" of the gag is that I sold Earth to a Stargate villain called Ba'al in exchange for free dental for all Earthlings and the position of Grand Vizier. As Grand Vizier, I get half of Australia, an army of Jaffa minions, a goatee and lessons on how to stroke it, a sweet cape, and a monthly quota of Blatant Nepotism that I fill by granting flowery titles, cushy jobs, and pleasure palaces to random forumites who I like and pretty much the entire dev team except Gecko (who I have relegated to a McMansion instead of a full-on palace because a lot of people on here are mad at Gecko for the Galaxy line revamp, which was seen as not going far enough and not giving the Gal-R enough of a buff).
You have to back to like February in Ten Forward to really get it.
And here I thought you meant this guy the whole time.
...actually, Supreme System Lord Ba'al is based very loosely off of that Ba'al. The idea being that the alien Ba'al's species, the Goa'uld, pretended to be deities to primitive humans.
It's Stargate, the worldbuilding doesn't have to make a whole lot of sense...
Not sure if this has been mentioned, And this is obviously not quite as impressive as the new map itself, But i very much appreciate that NPCs on ESD have started to wear the Odyssey Uniforms( or are they Academy uniforms in? they are very similar, or on third inspection, is this the elusive long version of the odyssey jacket?)
Its very proffesional looking and i think its very nice that somebody took the time to match up the uniform style and the new interior a little better
(i really hope the tribble NPC uniforms are the way they appear on holodeck)
Also, if more NPCs are going to wear it, We're gonna need it in the foundry, somebody on the dev end? Pretty please? we will be eternally grateful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZLkBznAijk
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
Nope, those are Klingons. Temp Geo to demonstrate the intent.
I think it's ugly enough, and enough changes would need to be made, that if SB39 was going to get an upgrade, I'd prefer to just build something new, in the style of ESD. Having the materials already made, would simplify the creation of similar environs by a bit. But there are no plans to my knowledge.
I'd be happy if you just took two blank copies of a Fleet Starbase map and populated them with ESD assets. Call one SB39 and one K7.

The stateroom was essentially cut, I would have no problem readding it either to ESD or SFA given the time to do so.
I haven't thought about K7 or SB39. DS9's Promenade is my next windmill.

Putting the stateroom within SFA would actually make much more sense (although having the room containing the ambassadors, Jugihara etc. in the main hub, i.e. ESD would be more convenient). Question is, whether it is supposed to be a RP-only area (like the previous stateroom) or if it is supposed to house all the ambassadors (temporarily standing in Quinn's office) and maybe even contain some small Starfleet museum (an idea brought up by you some time ago, if I remember correctly - might be wrong).
A revamp of DS9 would also include Quark's and Ops, not just the Promenade map Although Ops already looks pretty good, a few tweaks could be added, e.g., putting Cpt. Kurland in his office.
