cant say I really care... The only reason I even go there on my fed toon is when I need to train a BO and that cant be done from the other stations... in lieu of events that force you there there isn't much reason to drop in. I really don't care what it looks like if all I am doing is talking to Q to start a mission.
I would much rather them just have added all the services to the other stations which are much more CONVENTIENTLY located to most of the games content. Going to ESD is usually just a pain.
Loving the new ESD map, big thanks to the artists involved.
While the current ESD serves its purpose , its always felt at odds with the stations interior, it just didn't feel big enough.
But this new map feels a lot more at home in the Station, While I personally would like to see more floors added ( maybe in future? if theres a suitable purpose or ingame function that could be served?) I feel that the open plan definitely delivers a great sense of scale, I think this is in part due to the high ceiling and the accessable walkway above , which is a great place to take in the view of the stations new interior
I'll be looking forward to see what becomes of the Club, and I'm pleased that its been given its own out of the way location, feels right to have the relaxation area distinct from the command area

I love how Post #47 of the thread is le artist commenting about Club 47... #47-ception.
Next, a question... Taco, what were those giant shiny spheres I saw at least once suspended in midair?
Also, I kinda like how the early model Exchange was up on a raised dais like that. A bit impractical, sure, but it looked neat. So, Taco... Do you think we could get a dais like that somewhere on the deck? It might fit off to Jay Yim's right, on the far north of the map. I like the idea of having a scenic view of the Concourse, but the Mezzanine's a bit too far up, and the angle is limiting. Plus, having something like that dais would be a lot of fun for screenshots and RPers.
The Chrome Sphere is a test object I have that I use to see the cubemap clearly, and I leave it in a map while I'm still working on the reflections.
The Sphere was quite popular amongst the devs at that time, and many petitioned for me to find somewhere to put it in game, even though it made no sense, doesn't reflect characters, and has no actual purpose.
That version of ESD was split into 3 main levels. The idea was to provide a different view for each level. The concourse had the fake sky/park thing. The Shipyard overlooked the docking bay and a big shuttlebay, and the Bank/Exchange was overlooking Earth. Behind the camera (and below) in that shot, is the turbolift. So you'd walk up and around the curved ramps to get up there. Once there, you'd look back in the direction of the turbolift, but above it, for a view of Earth.
As for a raised area on the final version of New ESD, if you watch the time-lapses (specifically of the shipyard), you'll see a round overlook platform above the left frame next to the shipyard. The original plan was to have a kind of intermediate floor to the mezzanine. The door in the shuttlebay area, to the right (behind) the Exchange would let you get up there, and it would give you (imo) the best view of the concourse. As we sped through production, we just didn't have time to do everything, and that was an easy area to cut, both because it had no specific purpose, and because it was easily removable without affecting other things. I'd love to let you guys up there at some point, but I don't know if/when that would ever happen.
Upon further inspection they were different than i first thought, probably should have taken a closer look before posting

Good work on designing or redesigning this and looks great.
I'll be honest though due to how many games in which have come out since the 80's on various platforms and majority of them pretty much you only played an enterprise or a federation ship the appeal to federation gameplay is pretty much meh after you've played 50+ games where its pretty much the same deal across all of them. Is kinda why I liked the idea of the KDF and playable romulans.
Although I won't knock this because it most likely had more time and planning in it than anything in the last 3 years with STO lol. Even though it was nicely done I'm still not excited about season 9 lol.
Would it make sense to use the old esd to replace starbase 39?
Old esd was still way better then starbase 39.
They'd have to swap out Earth in the background for whatever planet S39 orbits, and make a few other tweaks too, like renaming Club 47 (unless they're going to make "Club 47" a chain of franchises - the McDonalds of 25th-century starbase dance halls).
I haven't started work on the club yet. It is scheduled, but not for a bit yet. There is some other stuff I have to get done first.
I would hide the club away from the main floor, so as not to sully the look of the new sophisticated interior of ESD that I very much like.
If it were me, Id pretend the Club was on TOP of the starbase, in one of those thin spires at the top of the base. Then you could literally walk around the circumference of the huge club that could hold the same amount of people as a full starbase instance. Because it would be its own instance like Quarks is. Then from every window you get an epic view looking down at the station as animated ships go in and out of the base, some docking at dry docks, and the earth below. Throw in some mini game tables the toons sit at in one section of the club and activate mini games that reward a little EC. A straightup roulette wheel would be nice to reward EC gambling.

While I love the new ESD I must say some of the other other stations could use a redo. We have seen drozana changed now ESD. I would like to see an updated k7 at some point hopefully. Fingers crossed.

I think it's ugly enough, and enough changes would need to be made, that if SB39 was going to get an upgrade, I'd prefer to just build something new, in the style of ESD. Having the materials already made, would simplify the creation of similar environs by a bit. But there are no plans to my knowledge.
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
Nope, those are Klingons. Temp Geo to demonstrate the intent.

Post #47 in this thread. Tacofangs said the work for Club 47 hasn't started yet as they have some other things to do first. It won't come with season 9 launch, but shouldn't be too long after.

Funnily, I think S39 doesn't need a revamp as badly as some other places. The station looks somewhat OK, especially with the lightning improvements which were done to it some time ago. But maybe the (proposed) revamp of the Romulan Story Arc gives you some time to work on the station.
K7 is in much bigger need of a revamp. The station is just plain ugly and has zero to do with its Star Trek counterpart. And it still has those weird "curved" hallways, that are actually just unnecessary S-shaped. The station could really use some love.
Of course, the biggest offender is still probably DS9. It was the first place I visited when i got into the game (during Season 1, no less). And yeah, the station is a bit of a letdown, as it's not really recognizable and many important places are missing. You are likely aware of this, but DS9 would of course also be a good place for a revamp, as all factions would benefit from it. And you guys could do the place some justice by adding some more content and lore there. Do it already!

"great, my foundry mission I have published which uses a current location in ESD is going to break!:("
Tacofangs has stated before that they were doing their best to preserve doors and contacts used for foundry content. The lower level is still there. You can access it from turbolifts on both sides of the station. It looks a bit different but there are plenty of doors down there.
Hmm ami I the only one affraid we will spend more time running around SD than doing those things we came to do? I mean currently you have everything more or less at one place and it takes only a fes seconds to get from the exchange to the bank to the equipment seller. As I see it now, it will take more time and travelling around.

Verrry well done. Nice slang. You must compete against Shia Lebeouf but that shouldn't be a problem for you.
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear it will be coming to the new ESD at some point!
I think it was cool that the response about Club 47 was the 47th post

No plans at this time. ESD is just ESD. It is not a foretelling of anything else.
Wha? Which one?
My mistake, I was confusing some of the statues in the background in the top right pic in this image, http://images-cdn.perfectworld.com/arc/16/16/1616251125c5ba4af61403ce265fc8ea1397169893.jpg

Can't say I like that idea. Starbase 39 just is what it is: a significantly smaller version of the (current) ESD.
Last I heard, the Club was planned to be attached to the current Rec Area. You wouldn't see it from the main floor.

The new ESD is Beautiful. Thank you.
It has been mentioned on multiple occasions that the club wouldn't be ready at the launch of S9.

Yes - I wasn't aware of any other facility using the name in any SF work of any sort.
