Maybe it's just perspective. STO just seem like the best MMO I've ever played that I don't even notice any of the bugs. Keep in mind that I have played some horrifyingly bad MMORPGs for almost a decade before joining STO. But I can honestly say, STO has impressed me with everything it has been doing, and I just can't find sense in complaining about random unnoticeable(from my perspective) bugs.

If STO is as bad as some say it is... that sure as hell says something about the other MMOs I've played. =3

I know that feel bro. :3

Never Forget List, huh? Anybody feeling lucky? Anybody want to bet against them releasing the same event next year, missing Rojal, and all?

Well see, here's the thing- Cryptic's "fixes" aren't always what most people would expect one to do in order to fix something.

So I won't be the least surprised if next year, the "solution" is removing the NPC who hands out the mission to begin with and telling all the Romulans to hit up ESD or First City.

Huh. Interesting. Can't say I've experienced them, but I'll take your word that they're there somehow.
Well, some people*coughkirk4cough* treat minor display glitches as important bugs.... I don't care if my boffs are seated properly.... it doesn't make any difference.... Flickering textures? I long ago wrote them off as a game engine limitation simply because I see them everywhere.

The current "horrible" glitch with exchange is that you can't search "All" by quality. it always returns null. You have to search quality and a sub category instead of all. It's a minor annoyance.

As far as MMO's go STO isn't that buggy. Game Breaking bugs are usually fixed pretty quickly ("Usually" *coughromulancontactcough*) The bugs that people complain day in day out about are laughably minor. There was once an MMO I played (now defunct) where under certain circumstances enemies would take negative damage rendering even minor encounters entirely unwinnable. I don't know if it was ever fixed. :P

We're just used to higher quality so we look harder for things to complain about. What a selfish bunch we are.

As usual you have people still to this day that will defend cryptic for bugs...

Are you kidding me are you people mad by allowing them to get away with bug after bug no matter how insignificant just allows for complacency, and the romulan doff bug is by no mean a small insignificant bug mind you.

Software has bugs. Could they have less? Sure. They could also never release another patch as they try to get rid of every possible bug since that would be impossible to do.

Bug are a staple of cryptic, again I will stae I have been here since open beta and I have seen so many bugs through out the years its staggering, not only that only a handful had gotten fix compared to added bugs, trying to pretend they are somehow trying very hard to fix this game is laughable at best, are programs bug free, no but most are not nearly as bug ridden as I have seen this game.

Depending on who you ask, bugs are also a staple of Blizzard, EA, etc.

Software gets new bugs as it goes along. And you'd probably be surprised by how many bugs other software has. Some old bugs are not worth fixing in place of adding new features, depends on the severity of the bug, how often it occurs, how hard it is to fix, or how many other bugs that fix causes. This does mean that sometimes it's easier to leave a bug than it is to fix it. This is pretty much how every piece of software you have installed on your home computer has been developed.

This is most certainly not the most bug free software I've ever used, but it's certainly far from the worst. Nor am I going to expect them to fix every bug I've encountered instead of developing new things.

I'd go so far as to say that bugs are a staple of electronic games in general. I don't think I've ever seen a bug-free game, ever. Not even Beware of Strange Warp Points which has very little code.... seriously, it's small enough to fit on one of the old 3.5" floppies that only held 1.44mb. Known bug: when docking at a planet, sometimes the planet menu with pop up BEHIND the main game window, thus requiring you to either exit the game or move the game window.

Yeah, we know. You're one of those people willing to settle for less. The Orange guy, and Centersolace rate STO using some company called Gpotatoes as a standard. Yeah, the name says it all. Maybe you're doing the same, and just don't have a frame of reference, for what constitutes a quality product.

Here's the way I see it. Any one, two, or even three, of the problems I mentioned, would be forgivable, in and of themselves. The fact that they all cohabitate together, at the same time, without ever being addressed, only goes to show what a shoddy product STO really is. And by extension, what a shoddy company Cryptic/PWE is. And after four years, I know STO will never get any better. It's only getting worse.

Anyhow, as you can see, I was forced to create another PWE forum account, because curiously, I can't seem to login to capnkirk4 anymore. I just get bounced around between PWE's forums, and the ARC page. So either someone at Cryptic strongly disagrees with my negative proclivities toward their product, or they just screwed something else up somewhere.

At any rate, this will be the last subspace communique you all get from the ole' Capn'. I have removed the game from my machine, and officially withdrawn from STO. See you in the funny papers...

right.... You still haven't give anyone an example of what you consider to be a "good" game.

That was happening to me too earlier. Their website login system got screwed up but it's fixed now.

Forum issues and in game lag and unsponsiveness around the same time we are getting a season 9 pre-patch. Interesting coincidence....

New player here, although I have an ancient account from years ago (I think I once bought the game when it was still subscription based). But I pretty much forgot everything STO related, so consider me a newbie.

I know nothing about the Cryptic becoming worse season after season stuff. Totally not up to date on the latest gossip :-)

All I know is this, I did the scanning event / thingy the other day on my still fresh character, and after about 20 minutes of gathering particles for a green duty officer, I kinda realised that after

    - working a full time day job
    - tending to the children
    - doing house / chores / real life stuff
    - putting children to bed routines
    - doing more house / chores / real life stuff

    - and then finally having a little hour (or 2) in the very late evening to have some me-time.

THAT this is some serious ' annoying / un-fun / boring / who designed this and why are they still allowed to breath ' kind of stuff ...

I get it, it's a mmo thing. Sometimes you have to have some grindy roadblock features to prevent players from consuming content to fast. Ok, I get that.

    But this ... ?
Where is the fun in this?

How can you as a game-designer be proud of something like the particle scanning thing?

I can actually name a couple of more things I've encountered in the past week since I started playing STO. Things that have nothing to do with Star Trek, or that are missing a serious dose of 'fun'.

Um, the particle scan thing is optional. if oyu don't have time for it then don't bother.
