Could there ever be a new Star Trek show....

In the spirit of the originals? I'm talking these are the voyages of the starship Enterprise-F(preferably captained by a less bloodthirsty Andorian) who's mission is to utilize this new slipstream technology to explore strange new worlds?

When I want Trek in the spirit of the Originals, I watch TOS online. It's free!

Sadly, I think the days of a show like that are over.

We would, if CBS would just nix Two and a Half Men already. It's a prime slot and you're wasting it trying to spite Charlie Sheen! It's not working! He won! Get over it and move on!

In yet another huge slap in the face to the playerbase, CBS said no.

Because god forbid CBS takes a chance with a long time successful franchise and instead greenlights every god awful odd couple rip off sitcom and over a dozen procedural cops shows and super edgy dramas that no one follows anyway.

Well apparently the verdict is.....Old people don't watch Star Trek, so CBS won't market it right now.

Oddly enough a Lucsley and Dulmur Temporal Investigations series would be an odd couple police procedural that they could then cast to be a super edgy type drama if done right.

There is nothing right about that premise at all.

For the umpteenth time, that's not happening. That was something Michael Dorn wanted to do, not something he's actually doing. The reporter took the quotes out of context.

Well damnit, what is happening then? Does CBS want the franchise to die out? Cuz the Disney giant just made a plate out of the competition, and it's about to gobble it up. Pretty soon there'll be lightsaber wielding fairies, and princesses, and I'm afraid it won't stop there. If CBS stops making money off the IP, Disney WILL offer enough money at some point. Then we'll have Klingon Fairies wielding lightsabers /cry

God I hope Disney doesn't buy Star Trek. Bad enough they crossed Marvel over with Disney Channel shows. Phineas & Ferb: Mission Marvel was a freaking canon trainwreck. Worse is that planned Star Wars crossover. I do not want to see those two captain the Enterprise. Nope.

The major networks have been distrustful of any "science" in "science fiction" ever since Enterprise and BSG went off the air.

In 2007 I presented Paramount - down on Melrose Place - with a 13 full episode new series taking place around 2385 - they actually liked some of the ship idea and concept - but were more interested in something else - later I find out it was JJ - Trek:(

I would have to re-work it a bit - but it did include Picard and the Enterprise- E in the first episode getting saved by the new ship and new crew while he was defending against a REAL Borg invasion - like 300 cubes this time - no dinky 1 cube at a time thing. Ambassador Worf and Martok were in one episode. Ambassador Garak in another.

The ship did incorporate both slipstream and Borg transwarp tech - but of limited use of course - being 2385

Male captain(human 40y) very Kirk like and 2 female commanders(human 30y - one blonde one brunette)!! Why 2? Well the ship called for it as it was a Carrier of sorts. Designed during the Dominion war to compete with the Dominion Battleships - she was not completed till long after the war was over. Standard starfeet design - just HUGE - you could fit 2 Sov class ships between her Nacelles - 3 bays in the saucer section - 2 smaller ones that housed Prometheus class(each side of the rear saucer) - one main bay (centre - rear saucer)that housed 10 next gen defiants

Lots of action - lots of sex - fit crew - tight uniforms

Doing a different writing project now - don`t know if I want to bother dragging it out again.

well that sounds.....lets word it a different way, I know the Enterprise-F is a behemoth by standard siized, and flagship style ships of the shows, but yours sounds like a pure warship. I'm wanting more like a TNG/TOS theme(yes the Odyssey class has lots of weapons too) where they go on a 5 year mission(which is a long ways in this day and age) and they do exploration, and first contact missions in new frontiers of space. I think that ship has a great base for a show, as there could be episodes staged entirely around the Aquarius vessel docked in the tail section.

I also know before I go to far that the ship was a contest winners design, and that's ok because IMO it is a great ship for a standard Star Trek TV show platform.

CBS like any business exists to make money. Reality tv gets as many ratings as Enterprise did with a fraction of the budget. Which is more profitable? Even modern day soaps cost less than a space soap opera would be. The viewers you would need to justify a high cost sci fi show would have to be gigantic and Enterprise couldn't even stay on the air while Star Trek into darkness performed so below expectations that 13 is going to have a reduced budget. Businesses go where the money goes and right now they have no reason to shoulder the risk. Even if we all "really really "want it to happen.

The only Trek show even on the radar would be Dorn's pitched pilot "Klingons". But think about it. Almost every character would have to have EXTENSIVE make up and be in the chair by 5am every morning. Coupled with the reasons above, CBS can not possibly muster the incentive to make it.

Well.... Enterprise has been gone almost 10 years. Think of this.

Would you have imagined that the #1 Television comedy would be The Big Bang theory. That it would pull in over 20 million counted viewers per episode, that it would also be renewed for 3 more years.

How about critics (standard big name ones) Top 10 2014 movie lists.... these are the most common on most critics lists.

    - Captain America 2
    - Spider Man 9000
    - Transendence (Depp Sci Fi)
    - The Hobit There and back
    - Edge of tommorow (Cruse Sci Fi)
    - TMNT... (ok Whoopi is in it so I had to add it lol)
    - Dawn of the planet of the apes
    - Another annoying transformers flick
    - Interstellar (Nolan powered Sci Fi)
    - Guardians of the Galaxy
    - X-man DOFP
    - Godzilla

Really look that list over... is any of that NOT sci fi or fantasy. :)

The current pop culture is pure Geek. So I think CBS / Paramount would be stupid to not be looking at doing another show.

My wife who used to say sure what ever when I would be watching anything sci fi... or telling her about this or that book. Now knows more about the marvel universe then I do, she liked the new trek moveis enough to start watching the old trek shows. I think plenty the non geeks have been acclimated to geek culture the last few years.

I think it would be a great time for them to come up with a new show... something not tied to the current movies... but not exactly tied to the stuff we know either. Its time for a new voyager style lost in space style show. Something that where they wouldn't be required to stick to tight to the stuff we all know... somewhere in between what voyager was and the jj trek is. Would sell right now.

It was the first true battleship type ship produced in over 100 years - thought to be impractical until the Dominion Battleships came along. It was also designed to be able to defeat several Borg cubes by itself and its support ships.

Think lots of DS9 type big space battles. The scripts saw lots of TOS era hanky panky going on as well.

She was designed to dominate everything known to Starfleet. Built in secret. Underground. Outfitted with a next gen phased cloaking device. Which did lead to some interesting complaints from the Romulans.

I don't think another enterprise ship show would be a go. CBS and Paramont would fight over such a thing far to much.

I always thought a Star Fleet Engineering corps show would be cool. Could be a mix of standard trek and a crime/mystery style procedural. lol

Really I think best bet would be a ship thrown across the galaxy or better yet into a completely different one. I know they tried that in voyager... but with in a season they where pulling it right back in to star fleet and all the message home stories. This time they should go darker and really strand them with almost no hope at all of ever getting back. That way there is zero worry about stepping on any other movies and thus I think be far more likely to happen.

The problem is the attention span of the average American TV or movie viewer is getting shorter and shorter, hence most shows and movies have to rely more and more on special effects every few seconds or actors that don`t give out more than 1 line before switching to another.

You could not put out a TNG - heavy dialoge or story show ever again and expect it to be successful - flash bang is the only thing that works.

Also what the heck is up with America - nothing new - every movie is a reboot or rehash of something done before.
