The Sovereign-class in general is a great looking ship. Got my eye in First Contact!
The STO Sovereign-class though... the neck and deflector stick out VERY prominently, with none of the grace of the studio model/CGI model in the three movies.
Of course, Cryptic will not fix it.
The killer is that I'm sure there are modellers out there that will fix and update the ships for free.
Disagree. Not a fan of the trend of shovel-head saucers and no-neck designs. I honestly love the Odyssey design to pieces, as much or more than most on screen designs, in fact. Excelsior and Constitution (every version) is easily better than the Sovereign eights days of the week.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am."
The sovereign is a fine looking ship, no doubt there. That being said id like to see a ship based off of the NX-Class. Simple, saucer, nacelles, no frills. All of my favorite ships are the ones we've seen on TV and the movies. Some of the cryptic designs are nice but this isn't Trek without the classics taking front and center stage.

There, I knew I forgot a couple of odd ones on my list.
The NX Class! I would very much love to see a ship based off the NX Class myself.

Oh there are. Bridge Commander has a couple of them that have done outstanding work... back in 2006, and even sorta-recently.
Like, just look at this! I'd fangasm if I saw that in the game.

Always liked the NX, the Akira is up there as well as both ships are of the simple yet elegant saucer, twin boom and nacelle design
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."
-Lord Commander Solar Macharius
I've always liked the Galaxy class myself mostly due to growing up watching TNG. Kinda like the Sovereign class as it always struck me as being a powerhouse but my fav ship design is a design that was never used thanks to time constraints to the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" I heard this was supposed to be the ship design used.

True, but I seriously miss the upward swept nacelles of the NX Class as well as them being cylindrical in design, looks much smoother and ellegant than the robust and more angular Akira ones.
I wish they made a skin like this availible for the T5 Akira at least, I'd buy the ship then.
I am surprised yet proud to be the first to bring up the Pheonix. Not the ship from First Contact, but the Quad Nacelle Escort. She is aestetically speaking my favorite Federation Starship. Her performance is great as well.
The Akira would probably be my second choice.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

My unique combination of the Vesta variant components is my favorite Star Fleet vessel for appearance and functionality. My only gripe about the Vesta is that it does not come with a unique bridge.. /epicsadface

I know I always liked that look. Never liked the kitbash look they used for the show and I am still hoping that Cryptic gets the rights to use that look even if I had to pay for it.

why can't they, they own the ship so they have access to concept designs.
I always hated that design. Looks good from the side, but from the front or back, just ew.
Honestly, I wonder if Probert's memory was playing tricks on him when he revisited the Ambassador concept. The original images (both the painting, and the sketches Sternbach referred to when designing the studio model) suggest the pylons were a good bit closer to vertical. The design looked much more compact overall.
Images Probert released of his Ambassador model being developed support this (can be viewed here). Note that the pylons just never seem to match up when the model is viewed at the same angle as the ship in the painting.
Since the question is one about taste, I think there's a lot of objection towards it.
I personally like the retro-technology look of the Original Series, the original Consitution class would be pretty high ranked on my list. Surprisingly, I also like the unreleased NX-Class-Refit very much http://trekazoid.wordpress.com/tag/nx-class-refit/
TNG-era, I like pretty much every Starship prior to first contact better than the Sovereign.
Well, pretty much everything. The Sovereign tries too hard, I dislike the chevron concept in general.
In STO I really like the Refit line-up of Starfleet vessels, though. It's a nice modernized look of the classic designs and would look good if NPC ships would be upgraded with the T6 material skins. My toons' Starfleet ships are all derivations of the refitted Galaxy family. My explorer is a Venture-type with Galaxy nacelles and pylons and my "dreadnaught cruiser" (dubbed differently in my headcanon, though ) is a Venture-type with two galaxy nacelles and pylons, the third nacelle being the venturized variant - surprisingly, my dislike of the third nacelle wasn't as big with that set-up XD And my sci commands a regular Nebula with dyson shields, which lets it look more material-6-ish I'd like venture skin for the Nebula.

"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
As far as ships from the series and movies, the Sovereign has to be one of my favorite designs, while the Galaxy is probably my least favorite. Something about those nacelle pylons bent at a 90 degree angle, and the saucer that's wider than it is long, is really off-putting to me.
As far as in-game, I think the Odyssey is really a step above the rest. And I'm also partial to the Ar'kif.

I've long been a fan of Bridge Commander and the TLC that modders have done for that game. Ships from across different eras of Star Trek, from TOS Connie to stuff like the Scimitar and Sovereign classes. The attention to detail the community gave to the ships had always been great. And Wiley Coyote there is among those. That Sovvy model for instance is amazing. Not my favorite Trek ship (Connie refit for me) but the work on it is outstanding.
The Defiant class is beautiful, it's like the hotrod of starfleet- small, fast and armed to the teeth.
The Akira takes second place, it's a really beautiful looking ship
Especially with the new skin! I love my Defiant. It's just the right size and packs one hell of a wollop!
*STO*Its mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!
I have been comparing it to several T5 starships in the C-Store and I have to admit that I find it very, very difficult to really justify spending Zen on a starship that is not that much of an improvement over the free ship... at least that is my personal opinion...
I will likely end up buying a ship... eventually... but I am not going to throw real money for the Zen to buy a new ship. I rather spending real money on "services" like the 4 additional toon slots and 100 more Doff slots. I prefer to grind dilithium towards a new ship than spend real money.

Do the other Star Trek ships get this kind of love? Nowhere near the same degree.
The killer is that I'm sure there are modellers out there that will fix and update the ships for free.
I like you. Sovy is one of my least favorite ships.
Much. I didn't like the ugly oblong wide saucer on Carnival Cruise Lines' Enterprise-D, and it doesn't look any better turned sideways on the E.
There, I knew I forgot a couple of odd ones on my list.
The NX Class! I would very much love to see a ship based off the NX Class myself.

Before or after the over-the-top polygon count took your framerate to about 0.5 FPS? :P

Consider that these were made for a Star Trek game that was made way back in 2002.
