I have yet toyet to run out of expertise on any of my characters, but this might be very well because I don't mind running some missions over and over. I'm usually making more expertise than I usually put in. My very first character I ever made in STO has over 1 million expertise and is very close to tier V on the Dyson Rep. My other characters are in the hundred thousands with expertise.
Easy to gain expertise huh? Tell me, how many times did you repeat those mission? How many doffs did it take and how many days to accumulate your millions of expertise? Hundreds, thousands of doffs and months of playing? How many reps do you have at tier 5? How many pieces of rep gear do you have? And finally how many toons do you have?
Real life money to STO expertise analogy: Pay is in hundreds of Mexican Pesos and your expenses are in thousands of US dollars.
Heh.
It is easy to get expertise...
The only way it's not easy is if you are doing several reps without playing the toon.
If they leave any Expertise cost at all, which the Commendation-fueled Dyson missions never had, then the costs are in fact going up and your fanboi logic fails hard. No matter what kind of rose-colored glasses you're wearing, any expertise cost is a cost increase compared to no expertise cost.
If you'd like to dispute that, start by describing what mathematical system you're using where 0 > 1.
I don't think you know what the meaning of fanboi is. I have criticised PWE/Cryptic and have been called a hater. I can't be both a hater and a fanboi they just don't go together. So can the attitude before you make yourself look a right pillock.
As has been said I was talking about the rep system as a whole and not one project in particular. UIf they change them to come into line with the Dyson system cost wise.
As it currently is, other than Dyson, as you go up in the tiers the expertise cost increases reaching are 15 or 16k. Now the Dyson rep all the tiers cast the same 1k on the hour projects.
Now let's say they alter the whole rep system so that all the tier only use the 1k expertise cost per project that is a saving straight there, and an increase in the amount of points you can gain on the smaller projects.
Even if they add the cost of 1k expertise to the 20 hour project where there currently isn't one it would be an actual decrease in the cost of expertise in the whole. On the tier one 20 hour projects it would be an immediate saving of ~7k expertise in the other three rep systems so a total saving on 3 tier 1 20 hour projects of ~21k expertise.
I am not even going to go into the possible ec savings as well.
I know, right? Where's that signature about "you can't be hungry, because I have a sandwich" when you need it?
To quote a pointy eared hobgoblin: "It would be most interesting to impress your memory engrams on a computer, Doctor. The resulting torrential flood of illogic would be most entertaining."

Nah, even my newest character has Exp in the millions. (1.5 last I checked)

I find myself in agreement here.
I do rep projects. And donate expertise to my Fleet when the chance presents itself. In the process, I've never wanted for expertise and have plenty now. Mostly, I believe, because I tend to actually play on a frequent basis.

i do not even play 2 of my characters regularly and they still have enough EXP to go around for when i do play them.
Those who do not have enough, maybe you should actually play the missions, instead of using JUST doffs for everything.
1) play the game.
2) holy TRIBBLE where did I get a million expertise from?
What ARE you guys doing that you're not getting handed expertise hand over fist? All I did is the episodes once (unless i wanted items like the dyson destroyer set) during leveling then STFs/battlegrounds.

Many of us DO play the missions, hell even Branflakes still used the mirror to grind expertise that he needed so it was clearly a warranted inclusion they have since removed.

That's my counterpoint.

How about reasonable expertise rewards at a reasonable rate?

1) Replay old missions till you rigurgitate your last meal
2) Doff till your brain melts then doff some more
3) See #1
Pretty soon you'll have a million expertise like it just fell from heaven.
Easy, peasy.
