Hey Doctor, thanks for the video!

Remember everyone, this is a work in progress. This is the test server. Things are still being worked on, so there are a lot of temporary things. The Exchange consoles will be put on the ground. The floating door will be fixed. The Red Lego dudes will be replaced with NPCs, etc. etc. etc.

    Other points:

    - The lower levels are not pointless. Those doors are used for Foundry Missions, and we can't just delete them. The level will get a facelift using the Origin Interior kit.

    - The Club is closed for remodel, and will not be part of S9 launch. We hope to be able to add the club later on.

    - Bank and Mail will be consoles, and will be available in all sections (Ops, Shipyard, Exchange, Shops).

    - We have taken great pains to maintain all the current UGC Contacts, Objects and Doors. They will be in new places, and may look slightly different, but they should all still be there.

    - The Exterior of ESD is not being changed.

    - The No Fun Police will show up soon to keep people from shooting things and climbing up things they probably shouldn't. Enjoy it while you can.

Personally, I've been advocating for an ESD revamp for a while. There will always be issues, but the previous "updates" were very narrow in focus and only addressed certain specific issues, rather than some of the major overarching issues.

Another reason is to bring the new game experience up from where it was in 2009 to where our newer content is these days.

There are 3 Environment Artists (including myself) mainly working on this, with support from our leads, and design.

We don't always see eye-to-eye, Taco, but on this one I tip my hat to you and the team; I'm behind this update 110% and can't wait to see it on Holodeck. Fantastic work!

How will the revamped Earth Spacedock perform on low end computers, compared to the existing one? I'd like to come out of hiding on K-7. ;)

The work so far on ESD is nothing short of fantastic. I love the strong primary colours.

Shooting things can go. But removing all climbing would be a horrible shame. Personally I find invisible walls do more to brake immersion then seeing people walk around on the ceiling, but that's just me.

My fleet leader has spent many hours testing every surface he has ever encountered in the game to find place he can get to or climb upon which are not intended. While this may not be how we are intended to enjoy the game, some people genuinely derive a lot of fun from this.

So leave us a few misaligned hitboxes, or cunningly disguised surface objects upon which to climb please. It realy dose no harm, but some people do so enjoy it.

Please tell me that there is an equally awesome redesign coming for DS9. That whole level could use this kind of love, especially seeing the new lounge area which would be perfect for making Quark's an actual in map area, rather than being it's own instance. An update like this do DS9 would be great for making it look more like it does in the show, both in terms of scaling as well as accurate locations and hopefully adding Odo's office for things like the foundry as well as a place to house the Security contacts for turning in prisoners and changelings.

Please spread the love on this level to the much deserving and much needed DS9 map, Please!

What do you think, will they revamp the looks of Earth?

I'd wish they would revamp the NPC uniforms a well. Oddy uniforms for ESD personnel would be appropriate in my opinion.

I'm not sure if it was needed, but it looks amazing and puts the old one to shame. higher quality visuals and presentation are never a bad thing.

jury is still out on how good it is. rearranging corridors and a new paint job is one thing, the ease of use and accessibility for the community is another. for example if the exchange is all the way around the other side of the promenade and the mail box is on the platform above and you had to go from one end of the station to find a ramp up to that level and come back to the console and then you made a mistake and had to go back down the ramp to the exchange again as an example. i hope not. im currently getting tribble updated as i got a little time to play the game. will get some idea very soon to offer more constructive feedback.

About 45 seconds into your video you said "redshirt, which only the elite have access to." That is not true at all. Redshirt server is available for everybody.

Tribble server is currently being used to test new content that will come later. Redshirt is for testing stuff that will go to Holodeck right away within the next weekly maintenance or 2.

I like the new layout, wish that even half the effort would haven been put into playship interiors :/

Besides that: Good grief?! Its not a space station, its a mental asylum! Its youtubed proof that certain items should NOT work on certain places.

This is a big change. It looks amazing. It would be nice to see some ship movement inside space dock, though.

Anyway, this might get me to hang out there more. I just have to remember to hide the chat window.

For the shooting I agree, thats incredibly annoying. But whats the harm in the climbing?

    Still great work.

Oh yes. This. Although I wouldn't agree on the Odddy uniform being used.
But that cheap looking generic fed-uniform have a really negative impact, and the better the interior, the more negative the effect.
Just look at the Belfast interior, which is generally done very well but drown incredibly down by the ugly NPCs. Same will happen here.

There can be different uniforms, but make them thematically linked and relevant to the areas they are found in.

A Uniform, should be the Odyssey one for most if the officers.

B (enlisted personnel) for some lowely redshirts walking around.

Flight suits for shuttle pilots found in the shuttle bay area and later Club 47?

Some cadet uniforms thrown into the mix can't hurt, but not too much to not take away something thematically from SFA.

And, of course, a few civilian outfits in the recreational areas.

And maybe a shady S31 guy lurking in Quinn's office smoking a cig... Er, I mean looking mysterious. ;)

for the moment before a better release of the ESD comes along, to me it looks rushed and half complete and honestly im not impressed.

    - bank console in the middle of no where and floating above the map ground
    - it shows an interactive ventilation system in the exchange
; two red lego men, im assuming will replaced with proper actors
    - the windowed room overlooking esd is of poor quality yet somehow the sol star is in good clarity.
; the 300 day console is out of the way and on it's own which isnt that special however most people would likely ask where the console is before long it should be placed somewhere else or at least a header above the console to help so people will know exactly what is where
; elsa mora and the bridge officer trainer look like they are in a queue without purpose
; rraak is talking to thin air
; one of the stations crew is somehow sitting on a chair through a solid floor in quinn's office
    - i feel as if there should be some extra direction screens created to give people a direction on what is where
    - various npcs are apparently interacting with thin air, makes you wonder if they are sane any longer.
; npcs near the med bay, there is one with a gun who specifically looks like hes leaning against an invisible wall.
    - med bay looks like an afterthought, it is so small compared to the main lobby which is about 90% empty space.
    - the room which npcs yaris and dj zuza occupy, the backwall between levels has an arch for a doorway and no door, again assuming thats for an expansion into a new club 47 at some point.

currently the new upgraded station is already in need of some upgrades already, this is first impressions. my opinion is that it should go back into internal development and test for a few more weeks, bring it out when it is ready.

Visually, sure its great. Is it practical? Where are the signs for people who are new to the new ESD interior where is this npc where is that console etc? Also alot of empty space, it will make running around a chore even more so than the existing ESD interior which tbh is functional but limited in space.

Needs better planning and shrinking down so its not so big and have empty spaces imo.

They should add giant water tanks for "George & Gracie" ... there is certainly enough room for it :P

Well that was part of the joke ... but I'm not sure if the point of Starfleet is having giant Opera Houses with 50 foot Waterfalls, Trees and stuff, as base of Operation :P

Why not? They have schools and gardens on their starships. The Federation is post scarcity and places aesthetics in high regard.

Doesn't mean the whole starbase is like that.

But this is basically the Front Entrance Hall.
The area itself is a big Welcome to ESD/Earth/Federation/Home sign. It is designed to make an impression and is supposed to be relaxing and not feel like a tin can in space.
