I have yet to be able to participate on an low-tier ship battle.
Currently, I have a Tier-II connie (2-guns front and back, consoles: 1 Sci, 1 Tac and 2 Eng) that I occasionally take on solo missions, like Tau Dawa and seems to be quite survivable... it's more like flying an escort.
Is there a recommended weapon configuration for the Constitution ships that has gotten decent damage potential? Does having a torp front and back get good enough damage from beams?
Thanks!

I ran the Mk XI retro phaser arrays from Everything Old is New and Mk X rare photon torpedoes (the best photons I had on that char) fore and aft on the free Connie, with a Mk XI rare photon detonation console, and my damage was on par with everyone else. I didn't save the log but I think my DPS was 1.4K while the highest was 1.8K?
You could do better just by having access to higher mark (or fleet) torps/console, or even ditching the retro phasers (sacrilege!) in favor of something better.

Good day Captain 07
I/we would love to be able to have another able/willing Captain join in on our pew pew!
As suggested by Captain Steve you can do the classic 2 arrays and 2 torpedo fore & aft OR for a more screen accurate look go 1 array and 3 torpedo fore & aft. I have done the first but now fly using the 2nd loadout.
I found that the spam of phasers didn't look right... it looked off and in hearing some already were flying in that loadout I tried it out. FOR ME it looked a little more screen accurate. You would be more torp heavy and now am deciding if I should just go 1 less torp fore & aft but I have no problem with the torpedos.... for now.
As soon as I get in game I will send you the invite or one of the admins can as well.
Mhh, I was going for this as a build (I use the mirror star cruiser, as it nerfs a bit the DPS potential of the ship) :
Fore weapons :
- 1 x Quantum Torpedo Launcher Mk VII [Acc] [Dmg]
- 1 x Photon Torpedo Launcher Mk VII [CtrD] [Dmg]
- 1 x Dual Phaser Beam Bank Mk VII [Acc] [Dmg]
- 1 x Phaser Beam Array Mk VII [Acc] [Dmg]
Aft weapons :
- 1 x Photon Torpedo Launcher Mk VII [CtrD] [Dmg]
- 3 x Phaser Beam Array Mk VII [Acc] [Dmg]
For console, mainly defensive ones, and for tactical slots, the Nukara console for beam accuracy and shields, and the Theta Radiation Vents to emulate the Riker-maneuver, as I don't want to spend money to get the Metreon console (yet).
Is there any channel to chat ingame ?
Edit : Dun goof'd ! I'm waiting for your ingame message to join you, admirals ! o7
Oh and before I forget to mention it, last night was one of the most active ones in a long time and we ran a bunch of stuff that hardly ever gets played:
Enterprise-era fleet alert
Took two other players on their first run of Colony Invasion, KDF side
Ran Undine Infiltration with a full, cross-faction STB team
Did Mine Trap with...8 players, I think? Got overwhelmed, managed to save all of two colonists, got 25 marks.
Did Azure Nebula Rescue, got incredible spawns (2 Falchions, I think 4 Ha'pexes, and the rest Dhelans?), got...24 marks. Heh.
Low tier runs are definitely popular in STB. We do them all the time.
We just did an ISE with a full team of Exeters. We almost got the optional but the timer ran out. The whole thing took 40 minutes and it was a BLAST! Nothing like getting the message "you earned 75 Omega Marks" and thinking "yes, I EARNED them!"
BTW: Did you know, that the Tactical Cube warps back to the gate and goes up to 100% hull and shields when you lure it 40km away from the gate? I didn't!
Those are the runs where STB really shines. We communicate a lot, change tactics on the fly. We have a lot of REALLY good players in this group.
I agree, that a full wing of 4-5k DPS T5 ships can be too powerful when the team play is good. It's really running too smooth sometimes. The problem is, that mission difficulties are highly inconsistent. While that team might go through ISE without a problem it could totally fail in other missions. Or even in the next ISE run when the Tac Cube is on steroids. I'm not sure if limiting the max DPS to 4k or something would change that much.
Captain 07,
THIS was indeed a fun and challenging run.
I think what happened with the tac cube was it reached the end of the map and when it did it just warped back to it's starting point.
We were really doing good up to the last tac cube. We did indeed have to change our tactics because we were not going anywhere fast. I suggested that we attack going in and out of weapons range and I believe that's when everyone stopped dying and we chipped away at it.
It felt really good to have "EARNED" the marks and this is what STB is about.. bringing challenges forward and meeting them full on! We were aware we would possibly loose the optional as well as that it was going to be a LONG fight... but well worth it IMO.
Regarding the DPS comments, I think we should all strive for 4 - 5 but I did mention that 7k can be the higher end but I am finding that things are still getting melted too fast for my liking. It's ok though if we are testing out a build or something playing with power levels, just last night I clocked in at 7.9k DPS which was too high for my taste.
I think we all know what we are trying to accomplish and that is to enjoy the missions and bring out teamwork and good fun.
I play most nights 6 to 11 or 12 EST. Feel free to add me, if I don't add you guys first. @revelator6674. I mainly play Romulan, KDF aligned, but I do have several other characters as well. Fed Engineer, Klingon Engineer and a Rom-fed as well, if any of those would be better.
I'm pretty new to STO and MMOs in general as I am primarily a console gamer. I've only started playing it on my MacBook towards the end of April and I'm really interested in this.
The first week I played all I did was use phasers on my federation ships and then realized that I seemed to be the only one. And changed it up to various other weapons.
Currently my primary ship is the Nico Bio-Warship which I'm working on outfitting with all fluidic anti-proton beams but I still have a galaxy class which I purchased with zen and the defiant (the one with the cloak) that I purchased with zen.
The galaxy is pretty much blank, as I ditched its standard loadout for something else and was using it as a place to store extra weapons and gadgets for my other ships. My defiant has the specialty quad phaser banks and then a bunch of XI purple gear I bought from the dilithium store.
The thing that intrigues me the most about this group is the light roll play during the missions you guys have described. Meeting on a bridge and doing a briefing. Splitting up into groups to complete objectives. All that sounds amazing.
If you ever need a batazoid engineering captain let me know but someone might have to walk me through this channel business.
Halcyon@mikdatv
P.S. Do any of you use the in game voice chat? I saw mention of team speak but I was puzzled because the game has a built in voice chat which seems to work just fine.

Invite sent, Captain.
I've tried the in-game voice chat and tend to get a lot of static from people instead. Voice seems to be quite a bit clearer in Teamspeak, probably because it has a few more options and better quality control.
Anyways, you can probably outfit your Galaxy and Defiant pretty quickly. And if you need someone to run a parser if you don't have one, don't hesitate to ask.

Star Trek Battles: For those who want to Play Star Trek Online as it WAS MEANT TO BE!!!
Hope to be able to join you in an STB run or three soon, but I have to admit - whilst my online time is limited, I don't have a great deal of enthusiasm toward STO, in general, at the moment.
The graphics issue has rendered STO all but unplayable for me and, as per the last run of CSE I did with an STB team (which failed, since I couldn't help anyone with anything), I feel like a burden as I an can do is splutter around being no help at all.
So I've found myself in the position where, even if I DO get online time, I don't always log into STO by default like I used to.
But as you say, R/L take precedence - and with work & a baby on the way, I certainly don't, and WON'T, have much time on my hands!
Captain 07
You did mention that the last time we teamed up that you were having graphics issues that made it hard to play. Even some of the suggestions we had seemed like it didn't work.
You know more than anyone that I don't care about losing the optional... it's something that we want to work for and well if we lose it, it's NO big deal. In this case though it was the issues with your graphics and in the end I don't think anyone groaned about it.
I have no recommendations that I think will help but I hope it does clear up for you as I find our team ups enjoyable.
Trust me, you WILL have your hands full and you WILL lose sleep over your new bundle of joy. STO will be there... STB will still be here, I hope, so when you do get online all you need do is ask for some pew pew and we will get our pew pew on!
Just FYI, I gone done some advertising for you guys. Me and my other military friends run a group called Veteran Gaming. We have a face book page, a forum and a twitch account and we play and review games. We just started about a month ago. We do things like live events on twitch on most Saturdays and we're even trying to start doing some give always in the future.
Anyway, I gave STB a shout out. We don't have a huge following but I figured I'd spread the word the best way I knew how. Had more fun with you guys last night than I did in my first few weeks of STO so far combined.

Thank you very much for trying to get STB out there, much appreciated.
We try to have fun as much as we can or as peoples time allows us to. A lot of people are grinding stuff right now but we still to manage to have some good runs/groups going.
I have a question (also, thank you for posting in my topic about the T1 ship in my mission). Would it count if I was running a T2 Exeter with cannons? I modeled the weapons after the '09 Star Trek movie Enterprise's weapons (which act more like cannons than beams). Also, since there is no evidence that the ship had a rear torp launcher, I use two rear turrets. It is phaser energy.

I just rewatched the movie in question, and I have no problem with the turrets being on the ship. It seemed to be a combination of turrets and Dual Beam banks that the ship had equipped.
As for the Torpedo, its STB standard to have a front and rear torpedo launcher on the ship. And the 2nd Abramsverse movie version of the Enterprise gave it 72 launchers on the Engineering Hull (36 to each side). We'll see in the 3rd movie if it has a rear launcher.

Hello Captain 07
Thank you for your interest in STB.
We don't tend to be too strict on the guidelines but we know that the constitution class did indeed have phasers and photos.
Finally got to meet up with several of you last night and wanted to thank you for all of the fun. I really enjoyed the light RP element to it.
Look forward to joining you guys again. Thank you so much!
Captain 07
No.. THANK YOU for giving STB a shot.
I am not the best RPer in the group, Captain Horizon can do a pretty good RP session.
We just want to have fun and try to stay true to what I/we know as ST.
I love forward to more pew pew with you as well as all the Captains in STB 07.
On the side note, we have been doing a bit more ground due to the recent ground kit revamp and I must say I am enjoying it a bit more.
I used to be one of those who said I DO NOT do ground but I find myself trying to put in the mix to change it up a bit.
I encourage all of you Captains to get in on it if you can, don't worry I'm no good mind you and heavily rely on some other Captains who has more ground experience but it's all for fun.
Another side note, I ask that all Captains leave here in the forum any suggestions you may have for STB when it comes to certain themed runs or even PvP type activities.
The other night Captain Jason wanted to try out a scenario where there be shuttles vs shuttles vs carriers. The carriers can only go against each other while the shuttles can go against the shuttle but their objective is to take down the opposing teams carrier.
I am not a PvPer as some of you know but again it was a good time. Actaully gave me a reason my flying dino skull (obelisk carrier).
It has also been mentioned before about doing some battles like battle of Chikota? (not sure if that is the name of it) Leave your ideas here as well as some ground rules you think should be implemented. I suggest when making it a PvP thing to make the ground as even as possible and how I mean that is having no BOFF abilities just as one example.
I know this is a somehwhat old thread but I saw the OPs sig and had to say what a SUPERB idea this is.
I like to try and keep my ship builds canon as much as I can and build them for a specific role.
Sadly with the insane dps chasing I know my canon polaron beamboat with one quantum fore and aft with the jem xii set just cannot compete in some cases and I have longed for the opportunity to run with other canon teams with more canon tactics for some fun.
I will be making a fleet-wide mail tomorrow about this and I would love to make my fleets facilities available for those who need it. I would love to chat to you about this ingame when you have 5
Again brilliant idea +10 chars from me.
Edit: I would love to lend my dread to a dominion themed run if you have others with those ships (dread, attack ships, heavy escort carrier), running with you (its a dream of mine).

Apologies, I saw the original post and was exited so I posted without reading the additional posts, (I did notice after my post lol!).

Captain 07
Hello and thank you for your interest in STB!
STB is still alive and kicking and we are ALWAYS on the lookout for Captains who are able and willing to play STO having Star Trek in mind.
I'm not the first really to not care about DPS but I decided to do something about since I was reading a lot of people were concerned about the DPS in that it's taking 2 mins or less to finish say ISE. I too got the bug and was able to get my numbers pretty up there but some things were becoming evident to me....
1 - seeing red firing from a Fed ship didn't "feel" right
2 - I was a tac in an escort and sitting in front of my target going back and forth also didn't "feel" right
3 - NOT having a torpedo in the aft felt wrong
4 - It was, IMO to me, boring
So then I remembered what I did first playing STO and really many games before it like Starfleet Command where you were actually forced to fly your ship.
I put on a set of MK X phasers and torps fore and aft and BAM!... STB was gorn!....err born!
Yes there is power creep and it's possible to go for MAXIMUM DPS but that is NOT ST for me and others in STB. We have revived the art of working as a group to finish a mission that really feels more rewarding than vaping something in 1 volley. Having tweaked my ship to look more screen accurate has even made me enjoy STO even more.
STB is not for everyone but I hope people give it a shot and who knows.... they might like it.
I am humbled by your offer to make available to STB your fleet facilities, thank you for your kind gesture.
I have sent an invite to you and would love have a chat more in game.
In regards with a Dominion themed run, I'm sure we have enough Captains in STB to make that happen.
Apologies, I saw the original post and was exited so I posted without reading the additional posts, (I did notice after my post lol!).

I don't have any dominion ships, so I can't join in on this. But I will say that the channel is a lot of fun, very lively with constant chatter and everyone is really friendly and helpful. Overall I've found it to be a really great community.

We try to have fun as much as we can or as peoples time allows us to. A lot of people are grinding stuff right now but we still to manage to have some good runs/groups going.
Look forward to more pew pewn with ya 07
Look forward to joining you guys again. Thank you so much!

Weather it said fore & aft we did not see it but it only states armaments phasers & photons. I myself that it does as it seems to be the trend.
Feel free to try it out with turrents as it does seem like it was CSV.
Look forward to hearing from you, either leave your handle here or contact me in game @trizeo1
Thanks 07
Captain 07
Anyways, look forward to hearing some feedback 07
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
Hey
A lot of us have Dominion ships. If you want to do a Dominion mission run I am sure there would be no problem finding people to do it. You can catch me in game in a bit at @steveangelis.
CRUISERS NEED A 206% HULL BUFF
You should post your @handle so you get an invite -- looking forward to playing with you. I don't have any of the dominion ships myself but I know others do, probably enough to get a team together.
My ingame handle is "@groomofweird". I know there are a few people in my fleets that would love this channel.
Ill make a point of saying hi in the morrow even if I don't get the chance to run
Edit: I do have other ships built to to play with, breen, fed, klingon, voth, looking forward to having a chat

Look forward to hearing from you 07
I don't have any dominion ships, so I can't join in on this. But I will say that the channel is a lot of fun, very lively with constant chatter and everyone is really friendly and helpful. Overall I've found it to be a really great community.
Good day Captain 07
Thank you for your interest in STB.
I have sent you an invite and hopefully we will be able to touch base and get you started in the fun.
Look forward to flying with you 07
