Today was a good day, I estimate that with the double bonus I raked in over 35,000 Raw Dilithium, fantastic! Except...
After 8,500 whats the point? I guess its a good backup for when i can't get theat amount, but I already had a store of 50,000 Raw Dilithium.
So as I was suddenly feeling like all I had accomplished was to earn a bunch of stuff that at my current 9,000+ per normal day will never spend and it was strangely depressing cause I still felt broke, it occurred to me that during these weekend we really need to see that refinement Cap lifted.
Now in the past they have said "No" it regulates the economy etc, but right now thier are more Dilithium Sinks in game than ever before with a starbase and 3 holdings plus all those reputation trees. Still thats nothing new, but I came up with two ideas assuming they will say no to lifitng the cap.
1. Put a NPC Contact on Drozana (That's reachable by all factions I believe). Give it a 20 hour mission which lets us refine an additional 8,000 Dilithium and have him their only during the special event weekend. The relative increase of refinement you get for the weekend shouldn't be a dramatic increase like a permanent increase. And it also bring people to Social hub, which after listen to a lot of Podcasts about STO lately seems to be needed.
or
2. Let Starbase Projects utilize Raw (Unrefined) Dilithium. Unrefined Dilithium usage would let people who do farm the mineral to contribute more to their Fleets, it doesn't directly impact on the economy as unrefined mineral can't be spent any other way and it helps all those small fleets whose members struggle to put in dilithium as it cuts into their daily earning as every point they contribute to a base is one less point they can spend on themselves (which includes needing it for the actual fleet gear anyway)
This way each player could effectively earn 7k to 8k Refined Dilithium per day which they can use on themselves. AND they also still earn a resource they can contribute to any fleet they might belong to.
Either idea would work, I personally hope for the latter as my little fleet would get a good boost out of it.

No, if you think there are enough/to many sinks, then it's just right.
Lifting the cap will only drive the need to add more sinks.
Using raw ore for starbase projects is basically eliminating the cap all together, and other sinks would have to be put in your way again in order to compensate.

I don't think you realize that the cap is a GOOD thing and is what stands between you and even more crippling poverty. Consider, if there was no refining cap, I would be able to purge my millions in backlog across dozens of toons. What would that do to your paltry 50K? Your entire stock would be rendered instantly worthless in a spiral of hyperinflation.
is it even worth me doing any mining ? , the dilithium ore I have will take me over 6 months to refine even with the extra via the fleet mine
Of course it is. 2000 dilithium for about 10 minutes.. make the maths.
I gathered about 30k dilithium today only with my main toon. Tomorrow the same, and so on. So, the next week, i will feel free to do other things, since i will have already my weekly dilithium grind done. And i didnt even use the rich dilithium mining claims i have.. lol.. that will be 10k more lol..
Everyone seems to forget the simple fact about inflation in STO, it doesn't exist! At least from the developer aspect. The amount of dilithium required to create an Adapted MACO MXII shield array does not fluctuate based on the Zen:Dil ratio, it's always constant.
You increase the cap, lets say to 50K per day this means folks have a chance to buy things sooner. Not only from the dil store and rep projects, but we can contribute to fleet projects faster as well. The price of Zen will skyrocket, so what, $10 still buys you 1000 zen, who cares? If anything folks will spend more money to buy more zen which translates into the developers having more financial resources to create new content and even add new servers.
Oh but some of you will still complain about this game shifting to pay-to-play, when you really mean pay-to-win. You fail to realize we're already there! The best ships come from the Lobi store, C-store, or fleet starbase. The Lobi store offers very unique/rare ships, you can buy a bunch of master keys with zen to get a ship by chance, or get lobi to buy a lobi ship.
The C-store provides us with consoles, unique, many universal consoles that can give us a clear advantage in any conflict be it PvE or PvP. You can just buy zen with cash and buy whatever they're selling. Fleet ships have 10 consoles and more hull strength, generally making them the toughest ships out there. You need fleet modules which costs zen to buy, ie you need to pay money to buy zen to buy them. Yes folks sell them on the exchange but where do you think they came from in the first place?
What about fleet weapons? The best in the game, no Mk XII [Crth]x3 weapon on the exchange can compare to a fleet weapon, impossible! They cost dil, and the fastest way to get dil is to buy zen and convert it to dil.
This game is pay-to-play, and it is definitely pay-to-win. By increasing our daily dil refinement cap you drastically improve the value of zen making it easy for folks to get more dil all around and get things done that require it. We all benefit as a result and the developers make a killing when it comes to cold hard cash.
And for the folks who play for months saving up dil to buy a handful of zen, we all know they're just wasting their time.
I personally am extremely happy with the dil event, I cashed in 3K omega marks and 50 BNP on the first day of this event and was awarded with more than 60K dil as a result. Add in a few Borg STFs and some dyson battlezone I earned over 80K unrefined dil in a single day.:D

I have over 390 of the mining claims so it will take me over a year to use them lol , but if I carry on grinding dilithium I will never refine it all

Well, here's where you're wrong:
Let's say that the refining cap is removed. Last I saw, dil price to zen is 129-134:1. That's about 60 zen for 8000 dil. With the cap removed, you're gonna see price gouging worse that what's done on the Exchange. What's to say that they'll shoot the price to 8000:1?
As for the fleet, there's something called "provisions". You remove the cap, suddenly, you have people with a reason to clean out fleets.
I got some more points, but I'm at work ATM, so I'll get to then later

I'm really loving the Dil weekend. I really like to see it show up again in the future. I made a run with my Romulan and got enough for 2 consuls to get the ship up and going. With the prices outrageous on the EC for some consuls, I rather grind it out for the Dil store. So this really helped me on this. Now I can start up the Romulan grind as I needed those last 2 consuls to finish the ship.
Plus I got on my other Tac captain to get her ship outfitted with Andorian weapons. For the ship I bought during the winter ship discount. So this helped her out as well.
Two thumbs up for the event, I like to see it again.

If I have an opportunity to login on weekends when not attending birthday parties or dinners then maybe I'll feel like I'm rewarded once a month instead of every day. Without bonuses the rest of the time just feels like a grind with a slap in the face.
Bring back hourly events for weekdays
This, this right here. This right here is a fantastic idea.
Keep the Weekends, I rather liked this one. But not everyone has weekends off, and things like "internet went out" can kill a weekend. Offering normal, hourly Events during the weeks (or on off-weekends, when there is no Weekend Event), and suppressing it all for Super Weekends as we have now, is a wonderful compromise.
No matter what time, or how much time you have, or what days you have free, you're rewarded. This is a fabulous idea!
1. Put a NPC Contact on Drozana (That's reachable by all factions I believe). Give it a 20 hour mission which lets us refine an additional 8,000 Dilithium and have him their only during the special event weekend. Two more good ideas. The limited-time Dil Refiner would help those with insane backlogs without being too OP (only five days a month of extra Dil, total of only +40k/month--or an alt used rarely).
But the "let Fleet projects use Unrefined Dil" is truly amazing. Make the Fledit payout lower, of course, but it's a great way for those with hundreds of thousands to use some of it--and would let people dust off characters that do nothing but daily grind DIl.
Seriously, Fleet Projects using Raw dilithium is amazing.

No, I fail to see how this is a problem.
He wasn't referencing always having double Dil refining, only five days per Event. And we have no idea how frequently these Events will go--even if once a month, that's a total of 40k extra Dil refined per toon per month--hardly a huge change.
As for Fleets taking Raw Dil? How's that a problem again? Sinks are only needed for resources you can spend--raw Dil just makes toons kind of useless. Available Dil is sunk into Reputation, Gear, ships, Keys, Zen--that's what all the sinks are for. But for Fleet Projects that take /millions/ of Dilithium? I can't think of any reason they should HAVE to use Refined Dil. There are people on this thread who talk about MONTHS to Refine all their Dil--where's the incentive to play that toon? To support their fleets? To offer Dil for Zen? To buy more Keys? It's not there. This offers something for those at the top end too.
Basically, the people who have a backlog of hundreds of thousands, or millions, of Dil likely already have a fleet of Alts grinding it, so how would this adversely affect anything? It would only reward players who have yet to reach that status, while keeping available Dil limited. It would help newer players actually improve their ships and gear and game, while still taking full advantage of Events like this.
I appreciate your concern, I just fail to see how it is applicable to either suggestion.

I had suggested this as well in another thread but added to make this available to the Fleet Projects only after the Tier 1 Mine had been completed. Now the Fleet Starbase had the facilities to refine it themselves.
