All the gripes this year are due to Cryptic's decision to take out commodities from snow piles and TRIBBLE up the Winter Invasion implementation. To make matters worse, they left the uncommon drop rate as bad or even worse than last year. I know I'll eventually get the stuff since I play daily, but it's an annoying grind. How the heck are casual players, specially new ones, supposed to get all that Winter stuff?
I compared the winter events of days past with this one, and I've noticed that the ornaments this time around are a bit difficult to acquire than the previous winter events.
Only in the sense that you can't simply spam "F" at a snowball pile, because some people scripted that so "The Man" decided that to get rid of that segment of the playerbase, the segment (like me) that spent hours manually hitting "F" had to find someplace else to get our goodies.
Now looking at the lobi store, I've noticed that they are selling a box of ornaments for 5 lobi crystals.
Yup, just like last year. And...?
I am doing doff missions for the winter event which use to net you ornaments, I only seen and received one time certain ornaments, since then doffs do not net you ornaments anymore.
Sure they do- crit any mission, and they'll hand you a pretty enticing stack of ornaments.
But don't let that annoyance reality bother you...
When people think of the winter event they think of all the stuff to get, snow fights, silly races an having fun, alot of people could dig in a snowpile an get some ornaments, epohh tags then get what they wanted ( it felt like a little present ), now we have to time organise ourselves between snowman invasions, pie eating, pvp racing its this time gating plus low rewards for uncommon items that is peeing people off. It does feel weird caus last year ( almost )everyone had nothing bad to say, this year alot of us just feel meh about it, shame really.
One thing I noticed is the tolerance of staying in the race lane. Also I'll stay in the lane and I'll almost complete the race and it will say "FAILED" So I lose the race? against who? I was also in the lane at the time!
The Winter Invasion is listed in the PvE Que as giving Fleet Marks for completion. How do you get them? I've done this mission 4 times now and I've never gotten a single FM.
It is easier to get stuff this year. I didn't bot my char on snowpiles last year though. The snowman gives out more uncommon rewards than just 1...I've gotten 4 but sometimes none. The same happens with Invasion, pie eating and recipes but usually you get 1. Being able to do those 4 'events' gives you that many more chances to earn them than last year killing snowmen twice an hour. It's easy to jump between them without waiting around.
The commodities are even on the exchange.
Earning yourself completely optional/unnecessary items in the game is not really a grind either!
Lazy people love to complain...
It does seem like less people are doing the race for ships this year.

You failed to read my response a few post ago. However; it is true, you must Crit to net you a good sum. Very Rare Doffs are in order for a good chance to crit.

Yes they are in the exchange, for exorbitant amounts of EC. Hopefully the prices will taper down as we get in full swing if the winter event.
In regards to Lazy people, I fail to understand what you mean by that comment. Some are busy with multiple toons running the races, and will usually Doff to earn some ornaments and buy the rest on the exchange. Careful how you use the term "Lazy" to people you know nothing about, I am only generalizing it and not taking it personally. Discussing drop rates or having an observations about game content does not usually equate to complaining.

Right, I forgot about doffing too. I've been getting crits and occasionally get a bell or beads.
That's fine and you're right too (about the "lazy") but the forums seem to get overloaded with people who just want to find negative in everything and "discuss" it endlessly.
Constructive feedback isn't a bad thing.....but sometimes it just seems people want to nitpick every little thing devs do because people want everything now now now and done with a few clicks. It is a MMORPG not a facebook game.
Most people are fine with the winter event. I wish the stuff dropped easier too but this game has gotten so easy in general that I'm fine with having to put in some effort.
It gets to be tiresome jumping between my chars (12) but it is a choice.
Could you help me out telling me what's the point of the recipes and the foods? I saw that the recipes go for 150K on exchange, and I just can't understand the price, considering that the recipe missions don't give any green commodities, nor skill points; just the food itself and some common items, both of which can be obtained for much less on exchange.
Is there something I'm missing about the recipes?
Also, are the food items good for anything? Are their boosts considered useful? A few points in resistance, dmg, etc. don't strike me as particularly good (hence the low food prices on exchange), but I'm a relatively inexperienced player.
I'm not really worried about getting the stuff I want, more about if my fleet mates will actually donate to the project, ESPECIALLY the uncommon items.
I mean, I can generate a pretty good amount of stuff by myself, but I am still only one person, and nothing promises ever giving the uncommon items.
I quite agree with you, though the bells and beads are quite scarce you are still required to donate the same amount to the fleet project, this is unrealistic, I cant see why they never reduced the quantity of these items to reflect their rarity, as they did for some of the winter store items.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Recipe missions DO sometimes(not always) give green commods. The acquisition of them is bugged at this time and only 1 person gets it per WI run. the only good part about the recipes is getting the food. Some of which are new winter foods that weren't available earlier.
But yea, it's odd, the only consistent sources of the uncommons seem to be holiday doffing, and Snowman hunter. Everything else is very hit or miss, mostly miss.

They don't. Or they grind the ever living daylights out of what is supposed to be a fun Christmas related event.

Yeah. Cryptic really screwed things up IMHO. Again, this is supposed to be a fun, short-lived event. Instead, it's a grind of insane proportions.
you can get beads and what ever the other item was from the recipes, criting the doff missions, the snowman event and the prices have already dropped on the exchange to less than 200k, and will probably drop further.
at this moment you should be able to buy 47 for less than 10 million. people can list them for 80-200 million all they like, but they wont sell at that price. eventually they will be forced to relist them bring the price down even further.
here's the deal. you dont have to buy your items all on day 1. take the time to play the event over its full run and you will have plenty by the end of it.
10 MILLION?
I don't know how it is for cats that have been playing since Beta or before F2P, but I've been on since Season 6 and I don't have ten mill to throw around. Not when I have to by commodities for Fleet Projects and rep projects. Ten mil isn't chump change for everyone.
The uncommons (especially beads) are definitely too rare. I have so far accumulated big stacks of common ornaments but just a few beads. And looking at the exchange prices, so has everyone else.
Since almost all the rewards require all the items, this makes the lesser ornaments basically waste of inventory space. What you can buy is determined by how many beads you have.
I was seriously hoping that they were going to simplify the Winter Event this year to bring it in line with the Summer Event that had one commodity to worry about.
What? you don't enjoy massacring snowmen by the thousand? That part of the event is VERY fun.
It's not that fun if you don't have snowblower and someone kills them all before you can shoot two snowballs. That snowman event last year was a war. This year, it's just snow to the slaughter and you're lucky if you can kill anything. I don't usually argue for things to be harder, but there needs to be more slaughter to go around with the new fire...snowpower.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
Snowblower may be the best of the new weapons, but it's still not required. It actually has the shortest range of all of the WW weapons. Flurry is equally effective IMO.
But, it's not that hard to get a gun. I already collected the mats required to buy ten or so guns. Even if you're just using snowballs you should be able to get enough for one gun....
It's very easy to get enough for one gun with a combination of duty officer assignments and the snowman invasion every half hour.
But for those who can't for whatever reason - there is an increase to uncommon drop rates in the Tribble patch notes, so just wait a little longer if you can't grind it out now.

FYI, there's also an Accolade for that race. If I remember correctly, you must win once, or participate 20 times.
Good luck!:D
I can still move.
I can still fight.
I will never give up!
