I should have used the DVD to install....

My hard drive corrupted and MBR, file pointers, etc.. got all out of whack. I had to use diskpart to clean it off completely and then rebuild the structure.

needless to say, this resulted in me having to remove my old STO installation.

I should have just installed via the DVD because the cryptic update servers (using arc) are terribly slow and it isn't even patch time.

It isn't my connection. I have a 50Mb/sec download. That equates to 50/8 or 6.25MB/sec. While I know I will never reach that theoretical maximum, I should be getting at least 4MB/sec... which I usually do.

The 8091MB download at 4MB/sec should have been completed in about 33 minutes, but here I am, going on 4 hours later waiting.

Just wanted to let you know.

It would be nice to have a full installer that can be downloaded via torrent protocol. That would solve a LOT of problems (including freeing up a lot of bandwidth of the servers).

It is slow because of :
1: All the people still out of the game since s8 are trying to get in game increasing the demand on request for patches.
2: Cryptic's ISP are having a hard time with their server and SNR ratio issues.
3: The more patching they due creates more problems.
4: S8 introduced new limitations that raised the bar of the minimum requirements some peoples rigs are not taking the new setup as they no longer can handle it. While the game/computers trys to compensate for these people it effects others too in available game resources that could of been spent better.
