I know this is not going to go down well however it needs to be said.
STO did not and can not do anything to your hardware or system. The DEMARC point for them is to make sure the game is able to be played at client locations. It can that is their job done! they will continue to improve quality of service and if there is a break in the line preventing or slowing people to connecting they will fix it.
Everything else is User-end responsibility /ignorance. The computer will only do or not do what you tell it to do or not do. Other wise the computer would just sit there dumb and not do anything. It is most unfortunate what has happened with you hardware however as you admitted you miss-judged something which would of prevented the failure of the Graphics card.
That is not Cryptic's fault it's your fault. If my stuff breaks, it is because something happened and I didn't prepare for it or I messed something up. Next time you know to try changing settings around instead of just leaving it. It's cause Trial and error, try something see if it fixes it if not try the next thing.
It is not the game or cryptic that is causing it, as it were it would be effecting everyone not just you and there would be a Hot -fix and emergency maintenance because it would be doing the same thing to people at cryptic if it actually was causing conflicts and hardware failure.
Actually the fact that mine happens under one specific condition and it only started happening after recent patches is quite obvious ..... Today I forgot about the BSOD, started star trek and click on a new article too fast (to read while it loaded) ... BSOD ... this one resulted in some messed up settings in my BIOS ... thankfully it was easy to tell. You computer not shutting down properly is not good for any hardware or software. And the system BSODing means the code is asking your computer to do something it can't or shouldnt do. And the fact that if you search STOL and BSOD there are quite a few results, means there is some issues consistently in STOL.
Also no representatives from cryptic seem to care or look into the issues or even respond.

Its not an issue of a particular instance (running STO) that's causing your system instability, its load on either your graphics adapter or hard drive.
Don't blame software, especially a video game, for hardware failure.

You do know that SOFTWARE ... runs the hardware ... right? It also interacts with the environment (windows etc) ... and how efficient software operates can cause problems ...
I really doubt this game is too taxing for my intel i7 and dual 7970 HDs especially since my problem is pre game start up, more or less seems to be a launcher issue.
I've run each 7970 solo and the same thing happens. Maybe the driver (SOFTWARE) is written in some way that this game/launcher (SOFTWARE) isnt compatible with ... as I have tried to run other games (SOFTWARE) in similar circumstances and not gotten the BSOD.
These are also the only BSODs I have gotten since building this computer a year ago.

I got one last night, for the first time in a while. One of the things that seemed to keep bsod's at bay was keeping my in game video settings at full screen with resolution matching my desktop. However, after logging in after last night's BSOD, in which the windows debugging tool again blamed the processor, I had noticed that the video settings had reset themselves to "windows maximized", putting them back to full screen seemed to restablize my game and system again.
Moral of the story, if one of the many bugs crawling around in this game auto reset my video settings, as it often does with my battle camera, led to a BSOD, that IS on PWE. Fix your game already!
