I had about 1400 Zen left in my account. Decided I was just going to buy some keys and sell them on the Exchange. Bought a 10 pack of keys. Sold them at $1,789,999 each. As you know they sell faster than you can post them individually. I should have made about 17 million from that. I go to look at my balance AFTER they all sold. 10 million flat in my bank account. Wait WHAT! I guess I missed the memo where there was a 10 mil EC cap. Even for a former subscriber now Silver. WHERE WAS THE WARNING CRYPTIC! A pop up letting me know I had capped my account would have stopped me from rapid posting to the exchange. As each was selling within 15 seconds of posting. I understand WHY the cap is there, but can we not warn players with a popup their account maxed. Was only able to buy 3 mk XII Voth guns for each of my 4 Fed toons for Dino busting and a few armors and shields. My Romulan and Klink crews missed out because I wasnt warned I was flushing 7 million EC!

Sorry that you didn't pick up the "Common knowledge" trait.
In the time you took to write this thread, your question would have already been answered in one of a number of helpful ingame channels, and your EC would have been perfectly safe.
Anyway, that's why I use zen-bought keys for myself (Lobi) rather than selling them for EC. No need to when I can hit my 10 million cap just by doing the Tour and selling/discarding loot drops.
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
It WOULD have been common knowledge for me, but in my 3 year STO career Ive never been so EC rich at one time to even hit the cap to know it was there. I was just giddy watching my keys fly off the exchange as fast as I could post them and the dollar signs chinging in my eyes didnt once consider looking at the running balance in that quick 2 minutes in real time.

this is what they call a expensive learning lesson, sucks, but its happened.
I wish they treated EC from sales like your account bank, but they don't, since it goes straight to char bank.
That all being said, you can put any amount in your account bank, no matter your bank level, but a char can only hold 10 mill at a time unless upgraded through some means, sub, zen store, gold. so you can technically have more then 10 mill at any given time, so long as you put it in the account bank.
this can help you avoid future losses of this nature unless you choose to get the upgrade to a billion through zen.

That's rather painful.. Although I have to say people are talking about the EC cap almost daily in ESD zone chat...

And someone else was complaining about this the other day too. I'll say the same thing now as I did then -- you had 1400 zen and instead of looking through the account services to see what you can do to improve your account (which it is very in your face there), you instead opted to Pay to Win. I say, you got what was coming to you.
Said NO to Arc. Gets punished by not being given a free outfit, free lobi, and free shuttle. Now forced to use Arc's site when trying to get to STO site. Still not rewards for beta testing the Arc website by force. Bravo Cryptic.
June 2012, which tells me you started playing prior to the PWE forum move and you've never once come across this EC cap? That just ppeaks VOLUMES about the Federation player base.
I'm with lordlalo, you should have used your Zen to see what services you may have been missing out on as a F2P player instead of trying to be a P2W player.
Look on the bright side, you did not purchase 50 Keys and sell them on the Exchange for the price one 1 Key. <-- Someone did that earlier this week.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online!

Pay to Win? Hardly. I was paying to keep up with the Jones'. Being a casual all these years, the only toon with halfway decent gear was my main. Takes me forever to earn one piece of fleet gear, I dont STF, never open lockboxes, and I dont grind. And Ive bought just a small amount of ships, so Cryptic barely gets $50 a year from me overall. Im hardly rich enough to P2W, you insult me good sir.

After reading the OP and the guy that spent $50 on keys and accidentally sold it all for the price of 1 key, i am glad i take my time. I mean if you were to watch me at my keyboard as i turned real money into EC by selling keys (or plex in eve) i look probably like somebodys grandpa learning how to use Internet Explorer.
I didnt know about the EC cap either, but i didnt rush through the process. I checked and double checked along the way, even on the last key i sold from my stack of 10.
-post 1 key, move the slider to 1, double check that its on 1
-change price to 1.7mil
-look at quantity in post, look at price, hit post sale
-wait for confirmation text in chat box saying it was sold
-check assets tab to make sure EC was added.
-repeat from step 1
I finally noticed something odd, when i sold the 3rd key it stopped at 10 million even when it should have been a little over that. Previous asset tab indicated 8.8 - 8.9 million EC, so of course i thought something was wrong. Asked in chat if there was a cap on EC, people said yah, and they told me how i could get rid of it.
being that this was your first time selling keys, you should have done your research before getting greedy, had you double checked the limits of a silver account that would have been avoided.

Just to sum up what you said, you bought 14M ec with real money that would have otherwise taken you another few months to earn. That, sir, is pay to win.
I dont STF, never open lockboxes, and I dont grind.
You don't STF and you don't grind -- what else would you be doing to earn 14M ec, exactly, besides pay-to-win?

I have sold keys before. Im well versed in the exchange. Just never 10 at once that would hit the cap in under a minute.
$50 for the price of ONE KEY.....OOOOOOUCH. I suddenly dont feel so bad.

That's not actually pay to win through selling keys as I can't remember the exact definition of p2w but its more of the only way to be competitive is to use real money and obviously that's not the case with selling keys.
Ya know whats even more of a *****? Buying the ec cap increase but failing to read the fine print stating you need to relog to activate it...Now that hurts bad.
I caught it fairly quick and was able to throw a 10 mill depoisit into the bank before i lost all 7m, lost 3 though. Stung a bit, threw in a ticket and never got a response...going 2 and a half months now.
Anyways, sorry for your loss, 7m isnt a zomg huge amount...so you should be able to let it go.
Yes, I was a before f2p subscriber as well...so the salt on the wound part is there for me as well
So let me get this straight. The OP claims to have been playing the game for 3 years, since around the time it launched.
So he was here when it went F2P and was present while EVERYONE was discussing and complaining about the changes having a free account would bring and somehow managed to remain ignorant of the EC cap changes.
This is actually the part of the story I call BS on. Had he been here for three years, he would have been a paying subscriber at one point, thus he would not be subject to the EC cap.

You've played STO for three years and never had 10 million EC? How?
dude, IVE been playing for 3 years and havent gotten 10 mil EC until i netted a D'Kora and tuffli wayyy back.... i then prompty used the money to buy a Recluse.
And you want to know why i never got 10 mil EC till then? ****ty loot drops, thats why. I dont farm EC, but i do sell pretty much anything i can on the exchange, most of it TRIBBLE that gets you just a little over vendor value.

It's not the only way to be competitive, but clearly he was not looking to be competitive in the first place. He described himself as a moderate Fed player who most likely is more interested in the Trek, over the game.

Sorry, but the fact that you neglected to educate yourself on the F2P transition is entirely your fault. As a silver returning to the game when F2P launched, removing the EC cap was one of the first things I did. Either through dilithium -> zen or purchasing zen directly, in the grand scheme of things it's a small bump in the road as a silver.
