I agree... i used to read the f?rums every day... to se something new, or information and interesting discutions... but now.. only complains about everything... sad..
Well the forums goers are not what they used to be nor as plentiful. Over raging has thinned their numbers considerable. Only with careful cultivation of good posters and the culling of ragers from the herd will the forums be restored to their former glory. By working hand in hand with the Cryptic WildForum Fund who will supply the lush living space for forums posters, and donations by you can we do this! Together we can save the forums.
Really though, with the waxing and waning of people playing sto which is reliant on the content releases, during the drought times the forums are only populated by the hardcore players, many of which have become jaded. It's hard not to be jaded really. That and its easier to be negative about something then it is to be positive about something.
Cheers from Antonio Valerio Cortez III, Half-Celestial Archduke of the Free Marches Confederacy.
Obviously, the Forums is endgame PvP in STO and a bunch of other MMOs.

People complain because they have the belief there is something wrong that should be addressed. And most of the time, the complaints are valid. Like the new Featured Event rerun not always rewarding Lobi. Or the various gameplay bugs that are not being addressed (like the UI bugs), or people with genuine visual problems, having difficulty with the new console icons.
So if you have an issue with people complaining, then either put those individuals on ignore or you simply don't read those threads.
Yeah I get annoyed by complaining of minor stuff like the voices didn't sound like the exact tone some people expected or minor details like a light or window or whatever supposedly being in the wrong place. Its like people are combing over all the star trek reruns and magnifying them and going over them with voice recognition software or something.
They just shift attention away from more important stuff that is lacking like bugfixes and more ships and content for the KDF, and balancing overpowered stuff.
Consider this: STO is Healthy. New players are joining all the time, and the forums are filling up with people. You see more and more whining because people are more apt to share their vitriolic bile then applaud the game, in fact the people who like the game are far to busy playing it to come to the forums.
Check out REAL mmo forums from proven successful games and the amount of bile far outweighs the usefull information. Best thing you can do is not get involved, and threads like this one really dont accomplish anything.
"I'm addicted to you, don't you know that your toxicc!!!!" Yeah, we hate the forums but we keep on coming back like a crack addict going back to their dealer .
Let's try and not complain and submit your ideas in the proper forums instead of putting down everything PWE does.
Also, complaining about complaining isn't productive. It tends to bait trolls into flaming you and these types of threads always get shutdown eventually.

In other words you want people to shut their mouths and not state facts
I am annoyed by the senseless raging a lot. Some of the complaints are so ridiculous it's not even funny.
I'm sure they'll come in here soon.
So, first you lie and then you attack people for stating facts.

Yeah, this forum is so toxic. I have almost totally stopped coming here because of how toxic it is.

I ask this, due to your temper tantrum post here, attacking people for expressing their views.
Now, take a chill pill and come back after puberty, you will feel better, k
Yeah, this forum is so toxic. I have almost totally stopped coming here because of how toxic it is.
The worst I've seen is the official Avengers Alliance(facebook game) forum. It's completely pointless to go there for any reason except reading about game updates.

What are you talking about me lying? You must be looking at the wrong comment or something.
I'm divided, on one hand I would love a Forum where players discuss problems in the game like adults, and not turn everything into a "if you're not with me you're against me", and not have to attack the Devs to get their point across. It could lead to the Devs coming back to the forums, and not having to tip toe over everything they say because someone is gonna call them a liar...and maybe help improve stuff better for the game in the long run.
But then on the other hand, my god is the forums entertaining, reading the forums, is like reading a transcript to a town meeting gone wrong. It's like watching morning talk shows, you know their stupid, but you can't help but watch and be glad you're not them, but glad they entertain you at their expense.
My all time favorite is someone thinking their idea is so awesome , that everyone in game and on the forms must love it as well, and we all think a like because we're the Borg. So we all just think the same, and if you don't agree you're a rouge collective, but so small you don't matter and can't mess with perfection.:D
I TEND to agree with OP, but I am also in full disagreement. Why?
Simple: There are two different kinds of complaints.
Complaint type 1: The rage quitting ones, where you simply go something like "ZOMG, THAT NEW CARRIER IS OWERPOVZERED... The missions is stupid long, FIX IT STO (<- Blames the game rather than the developer).
These people are the ones, where I am in full agreement with the OP. You should never rage just to rage, or complain just to complain, and especially not if you don't provide reasoning behind your complaint.
If you want to complain, you should do so using the
Complaint type 2: The structured, well considered complaint, that pinpoints the exact elements where the user is dissatisfied, and potentially provides one or more solutions to the issue:
The new carrier brought into the game, seems to be somewhat overpowered in regards to factor-x. The problem is when a player has skill-y and uses them while doing-z.
A potential work around for this, could be to apply <some restriction> to the ship while in red alert..
Now obviously, the above are simplified examples, but you get the picture.
No one should be restricted from bring up valid complaints... That IS after all how any company knows how and when to change their product, and as long as there is thought behind the complaints, I believe that they should keep coming.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
i stopped caring much about these forums when the Devs started giving us the silent treatment / were shut up by PWEs NDAs
Taco doesn't count because he is trolling 90% of the time, and Brandon doesn't count because he is the PR dude from PWE. Which is fine, but i'm talking about the Devs that came here to ask for feedback and responded to ideas and bounced ideas of the community (Heretic, Gozer (what ever happened to the weekly PvP updates? lol ... ), Cpt. Logan... heck even dStahl came here to just talk and tease)...
since the Devs left i feel out of the loop, my feedback isn't wanted or required anymore so i moved on to games where the Devs are still around and give a damn (in Marvel Heroes you can see many Devs post every day, there is constant back and forth and the game is getting better and better because of it).
And my feeling is that when the Devs left the forums, that most players that WANTED to give constructive feedback and ideas left soon after, so now all that is left are people complaining or talking nonsense...
that is, if anything moves at all on the first page. i can remember days when the first page of General Discussions flipped over within an hour, now it takes a day or two for a post without replies to flip over to page 2.
Of course Season 8 will come soon and then we will have lots to talk about, but little to actually influence anymore because it is pretty much a done deal already and they barely started teasing us yet.
I have to agree... Theres one dev I am not missing in particular, but the others were a real benefit to the communications between the players and the developers.
And the irony is that the dev that (seemingly) triggered the shut-up, actually just made a minor slip... nothing too serious, and he wasn't even in a position to make a clear statement on said topic (wich he didn btw).
It was almost as if PWE were just waiting for such a slipup, to shut communications down.
These days, it really just serves to promote people to be dis-satisfied, and not getting anything from Cryptic to put their mind at ease or at least make people understand the hows and whys.
But that of cause still doesn't allow (in my world) for randomness... Either you support complaints with strong arguments, or you don't complain.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
No one should be restricted from bring up valid complaints... That IS after all how any company knows how and when to change their product, and as long as there is thought behind the complaints, I believe that they should keep coming.
And when was the last time you saw that here?
All we do have is people coming here, posting their opinion as god-given facts, complaining why the Devs do not listen to him/her (they often write "Us" or "the Playerbase" instead... but in this case it's simply pluralis maiestatis) and keep on ranting and attacking anything that dares to come near.
Sure there is one or two different threads, good threads but they usually drown in the above stuff not long after been posted.
But all that is made possible by 2 Factors: 1. Gaming Forums are generally a very hostile territory, especially if it is Multiplayer oriented but it does spill over to singleplayer games from time to time and it's growing, I don't know exactly why but most likely due to the inherent Competition in MP Games and the anonymity of the Internet 2. As my experience shows me (and I just might be very unlucky) Star Trek Fans (real Fans not just people with some interest) are ironically the most ignorant, aggressive, close-minded, self-centered, flagellantic and zealous people around as I lamented in a previous post of mine in one of those "Dinos?! Seriously?!"-Threads which promotes this "You have to listen to ONLY ME! You have to answer to MY POST immediately and better say YES or I drag you down into the mud!" we see so often here and even in this thread as most people still confuse "to listen" with "do everything I say".
So we're bound to have situations where something is stated, Dev says "We listen" and people go apesh*t because they associate "We listen" directly without any other consideration with "We're gonna do that! Just wait!" because they see themselves as the ultimum of Trek-Knowledge and so it doesn't occure to them that someone might not think they are right.
These two factors, being brought together in a MMOG, are more or less self-propelled, fueled by one another, intesifying each step...
I for one am still surprised that there are still people (not just Cryptic or PWE) in this world that dare to get involved with this Combination (Star Trek & Gaming), I would have quit long ago, no money in the world would be worth the psychological damage that is to suffer when being exposed to us for to long.
Constructive criticism and feedback is one thing. Torches and pitchforks are another altogether.
With the whining, insults, entitlement, and victim complexes, I wouldn't post here if I were a developer. The way some people on here act, you would think that Cryptic was a bunch of baby-eating ogres that like to kick puppies and stomp kittens. Which, of course, they are not.
On the forums? Shortly after Season 5 was released.
In the game: Upcoming season 8... The rep-system (for dysons command at least) has gotten some good upgrades, and the space adventure zone is something i've seen requested more than just a few times.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
