I'd say if this hits before STO can do anything with their PVP... after 4 years of neglect...yeah.......

Most of STO's players don't PvP, so it won't mean much to STO.

What I do like about SWTOR is that ships can barrel roll. I need to barrel roll STO!!!! :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Their F2P-Modell is still absolutely horrible.
And from the looks of it, everyone gets a fighter instead of their actual ships.

I can have shuttle/fighter - PvP in STO too.

will it make TOR an enjoyable game or fix their iffy model?

Interesting. I wonder if this means they're moving away from the rail shooter like gameplay and opening it up to full X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter style game play. I can certainly see why you are concerned about people jumping ship from STO.

Personally I've always enjoy Star Trek's capital ship style combat more than Star War's dogfights which are and should be two very different but related animals. I guess I like feeling more like a captain than a pilot.

Yes Ive know about this for a while now Web, if it is anything like STO, or better I might actually try it out again.

I know for a fact that TOR at least cares somewhat about PvP. I'm hoping for the best...

    Who knows :D

That actually looks pretty cool. Although unless they fix that nasty F2P model of theirs, I don't see myself ever going over there.

Just looking at the info on their site, as expected not everyone will get access to it straight away, if you are not subbed you don't get anything until a month/2 months after it releases.
For me its just another example of how bad their model actually is - also there's an option coming up to buy weapons/upgrades with the "Cartel coins".

The arcade style of the expansion does not really interest me looking at the videos.

Actually, as I understand it, if you're not Subbed you have the option of waiting or paying to have access to it. I see nothing wrong with that model. That's basically how most FTP and Hybrid MMOs work. PW is the exception in the industry when allowing all Free players access to all content.

Personally, I would happily buy Mission Content from the C-Store, much like LotRO, if it meant I could have new Mission Content on a regular basis. :)

it says on the page that the PVP battles are not railed, but the single player PVE missions are railed.

so basically PVP in space is 12vs12 dogfights with 3 type of ships (most likely bomber, fighter, and some sort of support/CC craft)

i will definately take a look once it hits, but i don't get my expectations too high.

I doubt this will make a noticeable effect on Star Trek Online. SWTOR is lacking in too many more areas than this game is to ever draw back the audience it could have had.

I'm not a PvP fan either, but... at least it'll give me something to pass the time until SWGEmu gets JTL or somebody willing to RP with me. I really need one of the two down there. :(

I doubt it will have any effect on STO, unless maybe it might encourage Cryptic to improve PvP (doesn't interest me personally, but it undeniably needs development). I think it looks fun and I plan to take part since I'm a big fan of SWTOR. I just hope it's focused on player skill and not gear.

Depends on whether you like off-rails starfighter space combat.

I don't think too many people will jump ship. I bet most will just play STO and STWOR. As for me, I will never try STWOR again. I did once and it was a complete and total mess of a nightmare for me. The community was rude, almost hostile to free players. It was clear by the community and the game developer, free 2 play people are no where near as "important" as those who pay. The restrictions were that crazy.

What this may mean for us STO fans, perhaps a better game. Nothing helps the free market like good 'ol competition. If PWE and Cryptic want to compete, they will have to raise the bar.

Let the true Star Wars begin I say!

I used to PvP all the time in space, but they kept changing and nerfing things so much i gave up trying to keep up and trial and error for the revamp. But this is great news for my cat over there, Jedi Master Meow will now have a Cat-Wing fighter! :D

The ground pvp's are nice in STO but limited to queued instances, with a limited amount maps to choose from, SW TOR can have pvps on the spot in all but safe zones like bars. My Cathar has never lost a 1v1 yet! ...but thats because there are no whinys in TOR to demand nerfing once they loose a pvp! You just work on the next strategy to get better if you do loose or have a close call!

This will be great as to date space combat in TOR has been just like playing a Starfox level... =U.U= -sigh-

With the prevalence of F2P, does anyone really "jump ship" anymore?

I would absolutely buy expansions for STO. Maps, unlocks for new areas (read PvP), missions... absolutely... show me the dotted line (and I'm a Lifer). Hell, I'd resub for specific content.

Not a lot as it's not even with your SWToR character's Class ship; the 'new' off-rails PvP is just a 12vs12 minigame. They're not expanding it to the existing 'on rails' space missions or any other space-based PvE content. As usual, it's another SWToR 'band aid' to try anfd get players to return.

I doubt it'll have much effect on STO or any other MMO as SWToR's F2P model is still the most 'nickle and dime' Fw2P model in any Western-based MMO. I myself was considering giving it a shot until I actually read exactly what it entailed and affected. hell, it's still all third person view too (IE you can't get a view from the cockpit of whatever fighter you're flying.

If this is the result of their 'Super Secret Space Project' they've been touting since just after SWtoR's initial full public release nearly two years ago; color me unimpressed.

One of the things I've suggested in other threads was for STO take a page from SWTOR's Companions and sell Boffs that came with a personal series of Missions. So you buy a Vulcan, for example, and at random times there would be a Mission involving that Boff that you'd do. You could buy other species to get other types of Missions.

This would add story-mission content to the game. Give people reasons to buy Boffs; and even give people reasons to buy Boff Slots to hold more Boffs.

Yeah, not having that space battle from the point of view of the interior of the ship really sucks, huh? Wait. That can be said about STO too. But here you are.
